Poll: Obama's drop out West

(CNN) – Fewer than half of California voters approve of President Barack Obama's performance as president, according to a survey released Wednesday.

The Field Poll showed Obama with an approval rating below 50 percent for the first time since assuming office. Forty-six percent of Golden State voters said they supported the president, while 44 percent did not.

Obama received 54 percent support among registered voters in a June survey, down from 60 percent during the first year of his presidency.

Obama won the typically blue state with over 60 percent of the vote in 2008. California has voted for a Democratic president in the last five elections. George H.W. Bush was the last Republican presidential candidate to win the state in 1988 with 51 percent of the vote.

While Obama received a drop in all subgroups of the state's voting population, his handling of the economy was a significant contributor to the new figures. He garnered a 54 percent disapproval rate among California voters over the country's finances.

However, a majority of voters viewed him in a positive light, 55 percent to 41 percent, unsurprisingly divided along partisan lines.

The poll surveyed 1,001 registered voters in California between Sept. 1 and Sept. 12 with a sampling error of plus or minus 3.2 percentage points.

Obstructionists in congress? I'm so sick of how folks seem to forget this President had full power in the fact his party at one time held the house and a filibuster proof senate. People have woke up.

It's blame and blame and blame and so on with this guy. Always wanting to demonize the rich. But how many of you have ever been hired by a poor person?

Honestly even though Obama did not get my 2008 vote I was still having high hopes for his Presidency. I wanted to have a reason to say he would win my '12 vote.

  2. GOP = Greed Over People

While I can be counted in the majority that disapprove of President Obama, never make the mistake of extrapolating that disapproval into a vote for the knuckle dragging group of heathens that now comprise the GOP.

Obama gives a big circus speech to Congress and the nation and rolls out his newest big government spending plan to jump start the economy and create millions of jobs. He says to pass it right away because it will work wonders just like all the other big government spending plans that Obama/Pelosi/Reid passed before. Then Obama starts yet another tour to take it to the people, the people being totally partisan crowds. And he drops in all the polls some more. Obama his going to talk himself right out of a job.

I'm beginning to wonder if people really want our country to improve and progress. I know for sure the media and pundits don't because then they wouldn't be able to conjure the "horse races" at every election. If everything in the country was headed in the right direction and the majority of citizens were satisfied then what would the so called "job creators", the corporations that steal our money everyday, have to stir the populace up with? Let's face it folks, we're all being duped. I support this President but I'm also not so stupid that I can't see what the opposition is doing to him. They never gave him a fair chance and that is just a darn shame. I read one poster a while back that said, President Obama will be known as the greatest president we NEVER had!....THINK ABOUT IT!!!!

And we're surprised, why? Gee, the guy is doing a terrible job running our county, but a great job running our country into the ground. Guess the good folks of California aren't going to sit around and take Obama's failed policies any longer, just like the rest of the country.

Oh boo hoo hoo they are always picking on poor Obama. They are so mean to him. Oh for Christ's sake give it up. This pity party for Obama is not going to get him re-elected.

    @ Maggie

Thanks sweetie but I don't need your luck. You see – we are EDUCATED out here. Republicans can't take away our rights and suppress our votes. However, as an answer to your question about supporting our president. YOUR party has yet to present even one decent candidate. Do that and we will further our discussion.

Maggie "surely" must be 'rich' or doing well.

I think I'm doing ok. I've been with my company for 10 years and for now, things look stable given the economy. My company is sitting 10 billion and have NO plans tp hire. Bt if they can fire people over the smallest thing or something ticky tack. BOOM ! Gone.

My insurance tripled from 2001 until now under Bush. And I work ! And you can bet I do the job of 2-3 people. Companies are squeezing everythging they can from less workers and raking up record profits.

Another thing. Maggie how is the president destroying the country ? Was the economy booming in November,December of 08 ? How about January 09 ? By saying destroying this LIE keeps getting spread as if the 10 TRILLION in debt never happened until January 2009. The country was already DESTROYED no ? Are we still shedding 700k jobs a month ? Up until the GOP made debt crisis we were slowly but surely heading towards 13k on the dow. In 10n years job gwoth was flat under Bush ? People DID do well under him. If you were rich ! Most if not all americans were just hanging on,trying to deal with the stress of losing jobs and the EVER changing color codes under the Bush terror alerts.

    Hey Four and the Door,

You mean that competent financial Management that the previous adminstration racked up ? To the tune of AT LEAST 10 TRILLION. Why is that number so hard for you an other conservatives to swallow ?

It's like you were ok with 10 Trillion your guy spent.

Obama gets in office, signs TARP ( mind you that was YOUR presidents baby and gift before leaving office. ) and has to pass a stimulus to keep us from going over the edge.......and it's this false outrage about the debt now.

You cowards should be ashamed to be conservatives. Spend, spend, spend. Start wars. Spend, spend, spend. Borrow from China. Spend, spend spend. That is the epitome of YOUR PARTY.

This country is being taken over by people in serious denial. Who are trying to rewrite history never before seen.

Maggie,Four and the Door, Fair is Fair and the rest. Own it !!! Your party and YOUR guy screwed us ALL Democrats,Repuplicans, and Independents. Americans.

But your personal feelings your perception of reality.

I know it hurts, but the the sooner conservatives ( at least those who are everyday working smucks like the rest of us ) realize THEIR guy screwed them over with the rest of us......then you'll be better off.
