Washington (CNN) - They have worked in the same building for years, and in some cases decades, but members of a special congressional committee tasked with reaching a deficit reduction deal started to "begin to know each other" at a private meeting Thursday, one of the panel co-chairs said.
The 12-member committee created under last month's debt ceiling agreement has held two previous public hearings to sort out rules and hear from the head of the Congressional Budget Office.

The Quinnipiac University survey released Thursday showed the Texas governor with 25 percent support among Republican and GOP-leaning independent voters, compared with Romney's 19 percent. No other Republican candidate broke into double digits.

NEW YORK (CNNMoney) – After giving President Obama's economic stimulus plan something less than an enthusiastic endorsement, House Republicans will offer their own ideas Thursday for getting the economy back on track.

In a memo released to Republican members of Congress and their staffs and obtained first by CNN, National Republican Congressional Committee Political Director Mike Shields says Democrats' stances on issues like the economy and Medicare cost the party the two contested seats in New York and Nevada.
