New York (CNN) – I listened closely to President Obama's United Nations General Assembly speech. He certainly touched on most of the major international issues, although often he offered diplomatic nuances on sensitive subjects.

On Iran's nuclear program: "The Iranian government cannot demonstrate that its program is peaceful, has not met its obligations, and rejected offers that would provide it with peaceful nuclear power."

Des Moines, Iowa (CNN) - On Wednesday, Iowa's Republican Party announced the date for its largest annual fundraiser - The Ronald Reagan Dinner.

Texas Gov. Rick Perry is the first to confirm his attendance, according to the state party.

Romney will return to Iowa, but campaign says 'no change' in strategy

Washington (CNN) - His advisers insist there is no change in campaign strategy, but former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney will return to Iowa this fall as Texas Gov. Rick Perry threatens to overwhelm his GOP opponents in the first-in-the-nation caucus state.

"There has been no change in our strategy," said Romney spokeswoman Andrea Saul. "Mitt Romney will campaign in Iowa enough to show that he is a conservative businessman who can defeat President Obama, put people back to work, and turn around the economy."

Romney draws Social Security battle lines

(CNN) - Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney drew clear lines between himself, President Barack Obama and rival candidate Rick Perry over Social Security.

While laying out his plan to reform the entitlement program Wednesday, the former Massachusetts governor criticized what he sees as a nonexistent plan from the president and an unfeasible plan proposed by Texas Gov. Perry.

Huntsman campaign lays off three junior staffers

Washington, DC (CNN) - While it continues to build up staff and resources in New Hampshire, CNN has learned that Jon Huntsman's GOP presidential campaign has also released some low-level staffers.

A Republican source in the Granite State tells CNN that the Huntsman campaign laid off three junior-level workers early last week.

Perry picks up 27 N.H. state reps

Washington, DC (CNN) - Rick Perry has picked up endorsements from 27 New Hampshire state representatives, the Texas governor's presidential campaign announced Wednesday.

There are 295 Republican state representatives in the first-in-the-nation primary state.

Tea Party group forms its own 'super committee'

Washington (CNN) - As the congressional "super committee" works in Washington to cut America's federal debt, a panel of tea party activists will meet at a Denny's restaurant in Orlando to propose their own debt solutions.

The gathering, convened by the large conservative political group FreedomWorks, will meet Sept. 23, coinciding with the Florida Conservative Political Action Conference, an annual meeting of right-leaning politicians.

Obama addresses U.N. General Assembly

UNITED NATIONS (CNN) - U.S. President Barack Obama, who took office when the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan were raging, told the U.N. General Assembly that the "tide of war is receding."

Obama spoke Wednesday amid dramatic changes seen across the globe in the past year, particularly in the Arab world, and his remarks come as Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas urges the United Nations to recognize an independent Palestinian state.
