Obama tries to bridge differences, literally, on jobs bill

(CNN) - President Barack Obama on Thursday took his pitch for his $447 billion jobs bill to the shadows of an aging bridge that connects Ohio and Kentucky - homes to the top Republican leaders in Congress, House Speaker John Boehner and Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell.

Obama spoke in Cincinnati, on the Ohio side of the Brent Spence Bridge.

Obama needs a math lesson. Millionaires and billionaires do not pay the same tax rate as a plumber or teacher. Anyone who believe this is nuttier than a fruitcake. Some of their investments, which have already been taxes at a much higher rate, are subject to another tax rate which is lower. That's a far cry from the lies coming from Obama.

If asking a billionaire to pay the same tax rate as a plumber or teacher makes me a warrior for the middle class, I'll wear that charge as a badge of honor," he said...

Americans earning more than $1 million a year actually do pay, on average about twice the percentage of the middle class. I am sure they would love to have that reduced, but we have a very expensive government to pay for and it looks like it is getting more expensive every time you stand in front of a bridge!

I think if Obama is really concerned about creating jobs he should go back to Washington and work with the Republicans to reduce the cost of government. But that's just me ( and about another 100 million American voters ).

Obama is finally getting it. To get the masses to understand, not the narrow-minded GOP/Tea Bagger crowd, you have to show them what internal issues are country is facing like failing bridges, roads, etc. He's taking the message to the people and not wasting time trying to work with the closed-minded, non compromising Tea Bagging GOP. Obama is working for the middle working class people while the GOP/Tea Baggers works for the non working rich, big business and to get one of their GOP/Tea Bagging Wackos like Perry or Bachman elected President next year.

McConnell, of Kentucky, said earlier Thursday that residents of the two states heard promises before when the first stimulus bill was passed. "I mean, how many stimulus bills do we have to pass before these bridges get fixed?" he asked.
    -------------
The money was spent by the Governers of those states. Remember, Mr McConnell? You prohibited earmarks from being attached to the funds. You argued that the individual states knew what was best for them, not DC. Remember, Mr. McConnell?

Almost all Republican governers gave out tax cuts? Remember, Mr. McConnell? Other Governers publicly turned down Stimulus money, while privately accepting it, and steering it towards their own pet projects. Remember, Mr. McConnell?

Republicans wanted a higher percentage of the Stimulus to be spent on tax cuts. 40%, in fact, nearly half of it. Remember, Mr. McConnell? Republicans wanted money to go to small banks to provide loans to small businesses. Most of those banks failed. Remember, Mr. McConnell?

The Stimulus started out as a solution until Republicans turned it into a something less than a resounding success. Remember, Mr. McConnell?

The Republicans in Congress call this class warfare. Well you know what? If asking a billionaire to pay the same tax rate as a plumber or teacher makes me a warrior for the middle class, I'll wear that charge as a badge of honor," he said. "Because the only class warfare I've seen is the battle that's been waged against the middle class in this country for a decade."

Obama – the man is pathetic. More stale ideas. We will never recover until they focus on fiscal and regulatory policy. These bait and switch tax schemes that Obama knows are DOA are not inspiring confidence from business leaders. More reasons for large investment capital to remain stagnant.

That's right sir. Take the fight to them! Don't let up. There are enough Republican obstructionists that you can call them out, BY NAME, for the next 45 days.

Show the people in their districts – – those working class people – – that these Republicans don't have their best interests at heart. Then let's see these "Joe-the-Plumber" types vote for the Tea Party Obstructing Obama Haters.

Time to bring tax rates back to the Clinton years and start seeing surpluses again. Trickle down economics has been a big a hoax as WMDs. We know Reaganomics don't work and will not work because the Middle Class is the engine of this nation and rich have gotten richer and the poor are poorer since the Bush tax cuts. Enough is enough, we cannot allow the Republicans to continue waging a war on the middle class!!

    Mr. President,
How many Jobs did you created with the first stimulus? How many jobs did you destroy? How many roads, bridges and other infrastructure did you build with the first and second stimulus money? Instead of spending the first stimulus and second stimulus on bridges, you spend it all on your crony green energy investors and sieu groups. Now you are asking americans to spend more of their hard earned money to spend on your reelection campaign photo ops... Mr. president, tell the truth... Does this bridge need any repair or is it about to collapse as you suggested last week in NC bridges? NC media said those 4 bridges that you talked about last week is in good condition and no danger for the travelers. Stop waisting our hard earned money on unnecessary projects. Stop the spending spree... Let us keep more of the income we earnd and let us spend on things that we want or need. That is how a free economy works and create more jobs. Let the People create jobs.

Didn't we do exactly that under eight years of Bush? We were unfocused on fiscal policies, and defocused on regulatory policies. Republican eyes were not focused on the road in front of them and drove straight into a ditch. No one was watching the shop, and the American taxpayer got robbed blind. Never again.

In my state Sen. Chambliss of Georgia earmarked these items that could have been incorporated into the Presidents jobs bill.
I guess politics got in the way.
    1) $7,900,00 for remodeling the Courthouse in Savannah – rebuilding the infrastructure
    2) $1,3500,000 for Atlanta Christian College (ACC) – job retraining
This I think is waste and not a priority right now and could have been better spent elsewhere.
    1) $3,100,000 of yours and my money to Chattahoochee River National Rec. Area (Appropriations Bill – Interior).

Obama is a total fraud.......someone who simply looks for ways to exaggerate a situation and make much more out of it, than is true.

Not only that, but when it comes to infrastructure, most of those jobs are going to go to illegal immigrants......because government is not going to be directly involved in managing this program. We do not need to provide jobs for illegal immigrants, doing infrastructure. If we do infrastructure, we should be closely monitoring that process, with government leadership, on the ground, at the site, to ensure those hires will be for legal American citizens, who need jobs.

Obama is totally incompetent, when it comes to managing anything. As a lawyer, all he really knows how to do, is run his mouth.

You must be a Republican, if you are that dumb about what is going on then god forbid the bridge should fall in during peak traffic. Then some of you dumb people might wake up, he is trying to get jobs and other things to put america back on top.
From this person from NC (john) YOU ARE NOT TO SWIFT also, the same applies to NC. Something always has to happen before americians wake up. If all is well in america, then tell all your friends and family to tell their congress persons and Senators to vote no until 2012 14 more months for jobs and infrastructure. Lets see what happens to america.

Lets be honest. Is the country really behind what Obama is suggesting. NO. He has been a disaster and investing in any of his ideas inspires no one. We do not see even a majority of congressional democrats promoting his plans. Deadlock is better than spending another $447B that would take us years to pay back.

seems the Brent Spent Bridge that obama used as an example in his speach does not qualify for gov. money. Another example of the intelligence of the fraud that was elected as President.
How will the media spin this?
Oh well, when America wakes up they will realize that nothing the media sold about obama is true maybe they will demand more vetting the next time.
