Washington (CNN) - Republican presidential candidate Newt Gingrich will overnight at the South Carolina governor's mansion next month during a campaign visit to early primary state, a spokesman for Gov. Nikki Haley said Monday.
Each of the Republican candidates are angling for Haley's endorsement, and Gingrich will be the second candidate to crash at the mansion after Minnesota Rep. Michele Bachmann, who has already stayed there twice this year.
Haley has invited all of the candidates to stay at the mansion as they pass through the Palmetto State hunting for votes.
Gingrich and Haley will certainly have much to talk about.
Haley publicly castigated the former House Speaker in May after he called the budget plan crafted by House Budget Chairman Paul Ryan "radical change" and "right-wing social engineering."
Haley told CNN at the time, "When you have a conservative fighting for real change, the last thing we need is a presidential candidate cutting him off at the knees."
But Gingrich, who has climbed in the polls after a series of debate performances, may have scored some points with the governor since the tumultuous early days of his campaign.
In July, Gingrich was the first GOP candidate to tour the Charleston area Boeing Dreamliner plant at the center of an ongoing dispute between the company and the National Labor Relations Board.
Haley has said the Obama administration's refusal to intervene in the case and allow the production facility to open is costing the state much-needed jobs.
Both Haley and Gingrich have accused Obama of coddling Democratic-friendly labor unions.
South Carolina, a so-called "right-to-work" state, has an unemployment rate of 10.9 percent.

I suppose the Republican Party, very worried about the gay issue and the sancity of marriage, has no problem with a man committing adultry while his wife fights cancer? Were you okay with Bill Clinton's personal life? Republicans create their own reality...
It took 335 years to build this country and it only took the republicans 8 years to bring america to her knees...are conservatives really that dumb? did they completely forget how bad their policies are for america and how they failed this country in every way? the funny part is how they repackage the bush travesties under a different name and blame it on obama...is it really thta hard to believe that he couldnt put a bandaid on the problem in two years..the republican party should just give up..what do they have left besides a bunch of brainwashed idiots still waving the flag of denial?
Gingrich is nothing more than a hack career politician. He is the problem not the solution. I don't know if it is funny and sad that various tea party leaders are endorsing this guy.
Will he be making a campaign contribution to Haley for the stay? Wait a minute - I was thinking about the Clinton White House. "......I did not have (fill in the blank) with that (fill in the blank)....."
His wife can't be too happy about this. I'm sure she remembers how she met Mr. Gingrich.
Who is Nikki Haley?,.. what has she accomplished, what notable achievements can she claim?.. Seems to me, South Carolina has very little going for it,.. except pompous, self proclaimed kingmakers like Demint and Haley.

What is that governor thinking? Using the property of the people and tax payer money to entertain someone who is essentially a private citizen. But then pretty much everyone in S. C. is nuts (with the exception of Steve Spurrier), including my ex-husband who lives there.

Chump Change is what the rest of us get in our paychecks. As long as we're poor and always behind, the banksters make some Real Change.
With the reputations of Newt and Haley for sleeping around, this should be an interesting sleepover...at taxpayer's expense, of course.
Seems like alot of folks join me in expecting Newt to try and get another wife. But I truly believe Nikki will have none of that and Newt will end up sleeping in the garden

So, the citizens of the state are paying for political people to stay at the governor's mansion? Is that really necessary? I see it just to raise her political standings. It shouldn't be done.
I hope for Nikki's sake that Newt isn't working too hard and loving his country too much lately . . . because that's when he just can't control those urges. Or maybe an "overnight at the Governor's mansion" is just the latest version of "hiking the Appalachian Trail."
