Washington (CNN) – Donald Trump emerged from his Monday afternoon sit-down with Mitt Romney more at ease with the GOP candidate's take on views they share: China's predominance in the global economy and OPEC's proclivities to raise the price of oil as a measure to offset U.S. economic gains.
"We hit it off really well, better than I had anticipated," Trump said Monday on CNN's "The Situation Room."
When asked by CNN anchor Wolf Blitzer about the Democratic National Committee's ad released Monday, which portrayed Trump and Romney as out-of-touch moneymen who favor wealthy Americans and big corporations, Trump twice said: "I thought it was amateur night."
Not only did Trump think the ad was ineffective, he also took note to the DNC calling America competitive - a claim he emphatically refutes.
"They talk about keeping America competitive. We're not competitive. That's the problem. We're not competitive at all," Trump said. "The world is laughing at us."
Trump went on to stress the significance of next year's general election.
"I think it's extremely important that the right candidate go against President Obama and win," Trump explained. "This election is vital."
