CNN Poll: Majority say neither party's policies good for country

Washington (CNN) - A new national survey suggests there are no winners in the public's eye when it comes to the constant wrangling between Democrats and Republicans on Capitol Hill.

A CNN/ORC International Poll released Tuesday indicates that 56 percent of Americans say the congressional Republicans' policies will move the country in the wrong direction, with 53 percent of the public saying the same about policies of the Democrats in Congress.

House set to act on disaster funds deal Thursday

Washington (CNN) - The House of Representatives is expected to take action Thursday on a bipartisan agreement ending a dispute over disaster relief spending that threatened to cause a partial shutdown of the government by the end of the week.

Specifically, the House is set to approve legislation Thursday that will keep the government funded through October 4, followed by a more comprehensive measure next Tuesday that will keep Washington funded through November 18, according to the office of House Majority Leader Eric Cantor, R-Virginia.

Biden picks up as Obama drops off

Washington (CNN) - Call it tag team politics. President Barack Obama Monday finished up two straight days of fundraising on the West Coast. Tuesday Vice President Joe Biden picks up the slack with fundraisers in the Northeast.

The vice president will be the center of attention at a gathering of approximately 20 supporters at a private residence in New York City. Later in the day, Biden travels to Boston, where he will be the main attraction at fundraisers at the Fairmont Copley Plaza Hotel and Grill 23, a restaurant.

Huntsman: 'We are going to focus singularly on New Hampshire'

Washington (CNN) - Former Utah Gov. Jon Huntsman on Tuesday confirmed what has become an open secret in Republican circles: that his campaign is pinning its hopes on a strong showing in the crucial early primary state of New Hampshire.

Huntsman made the comments after being asked during an appearance on MSNBC whether he would dip into his personal fortune again to fund his campaign operation.

Rep. Ron Paul: The country is ripe for revolution

(CNN) - Republican presidential candidate Ron Paul rallied a sold- out crowd of more than 1800 of his most ardent under-thirty-year-old supporters in New York City Monday night.

Tickets to the event cost $20-25. It was originally scheduled to take place at the famed Webster Hall's Marlin Room, but, the event had to be moved to a room twice as large at the last minute due to an overwhelming response. The final setting was in the Grand Ballroom, which has hosted celebrities to the scale of Mick Jagger and Madonna.

Engineers to rappel down Washington Monument

Washington (CNN) - It may look like an action movie being shot on the National Mall Tuesday, but in fact it will be engineers at work, rappelling down the sides of the Washington Monument, looking for damage caused by the August earthquake.

"The engineering team and the rappelling team, a combination of people from Denali National Park in Alaska as well as from an engineering firm, will come out of the windows at the 500-foot level," said Bill Line, spokesman for the National Park Service.

Obama heads to Colorado pushing jobs plan

(CNN) - President Barack Obama concludes his West Coast trip Tuesday with a visit to a Denver High School.

In a speech at the Abraham Lincoln High School, Obama will pitch his American Jobs Act which includes $25 billion for the rebuilding and modernizing of 35,000 public schools across the country.

Palin threatens lawsuit over book

(CNN) - One week after the release of a controversial book on Sarah Palin, the former Alaska governor threatened to sue the book's author for including what her lawyer called a "series of lies and rumors presented as fact."

The book, "The Rogue," by Joe McGinniss, has received widespread attention since McGinniss moved in next door to Palin to begin writing in 2010.

Crown Publishing Group, a division of Random House and publisher of the book, stood by the title and McGinniss.
