Palin threatens lawsuit over book

(CNN) - One week after the release of a controversial book on Sarah Palin, the former Alaska governor threatened to sue the book's author for including what her lawyer called a "series of lies and rumors presented as fact."

The book, "The Rogue," by Joe McGinniss, has received widespread attention since McGinniss moved in next door to Palin to begin writing in 2010.

Crown Publishing Group, a division of Random House and publisher of the book, stood by the title and McGinniss.

"We are confident that the reporting in THE ROGUE is solid, reliable, and well-substantiated," said spokesman Stuart Applebaum in an email on Wednesday.

Shortly before the book hit shelves last week, Palin's husband, Todd, lashed out at McGinniss, saying the author had been "relentlessly" stalking his family and filled the book with "lies, innuendo and smears."

In a letter sent to the book's publisher, Crown Publishing Group, Palin's lawyer said Monday both McGinniss and Crown knowingly published false information and "defamed the Palins."

McGinniss has staunchly defended the title.

"Believe me, I'm so sick of Sarah Palin right now, that after this couple (of) weeks is over, I hope to never hear her name again," McGinniss said last week on CNN's "Piers Morgan Tonight."

McGinniss said that he had originally set out to write a book about Alaska, when Palin was picked as the 2008 vice presidential running mate for Sen. John McCain

"That made her synonymous with Alaska," McGinniss said. "My book about Alaska became a book about Sarah Palin."

The book has received criticism from a number of news outlets, including The New York Times, which said the book "chases caustic, unsubstantiated gossip."

It has also been hit with harsh reviews over its use of anonymous sources for stories about Palin’s past.

But McGinniss stands by the book's accuracy.

"Sarah Palin has lived an outrageous life," McGinniss said on CNN's "American Morning" last week. "All I did was talk to people about it, and they documented it for me. When I was comfortable with the veracity of what I heard, I put it into the book. There were a lot of things that I wasn't comfortable with, that I didn't put them in."

McGinness has to be considered the lowest of all low lifes – a deliberate smear job. This guy ought to be ashamed of himself, if he had any shame at all 11

I wouldn't vote for Palin for anything, but this creep McGinnis is the definition of a low life sleaze. Like the parasite he is this toxic little jerk will waste his entire miserable life looking for opportunities to exploit others, and will never produce anything of any real value to anyone,. But because there are enough idiots wanting to suck up this kind of celebrity talk he will be able to make some slight amount of money from the oozing pus his publisher calls a book.

Advice for Sara Palin: If there is any money left in your presidential campaign fund, donate to the Obama re-election campaign, and go back to Alaska, somewhere deep in the tundra. Hopefully, we will never hear from you or about yo again.. Enough is far more than enough.

Another prominent Tea Party darling with a frivolous lawsuit. Remember that Christine O'Donnell tried to sue the company that fired her for lying about her education (she wanted six million even though she'd worked only a few months)? Then, like Palin, she used tax payer money for personal expenses (don't regular people call that fraud or embezzlement?). So how again is the Tea Party different from those "corrupt" politicians in Washington? Seems they already are doing everything that is destroying our government before they even get to Washington!

Good luck with that Sarah! You are a public figure, and you need to prove that the book author not only knows what he wrote was wrong, but that he didn't give a darn as to whether it was true or not, and recklessly publish it. It is a high bar.

She can dish it but can't take it. She will announce her run for president soon. It's about her not country that is why she will run. That and if she dosen't run she will run out of oxygen and she won't let that happen, because its all about Sarah. Who else would call herself undisputed after quitting and losing.

He will just bring in all the people who told him stories, and they will testify under oath. What will she say? NO? Bring it Sarah. We cannot wait. I bet it is all true. In slander you need to prove it is a lie. Good luck.

McGinniss is probably a Liberal and this is just a partisan attempt to smear her name.

She won't sue. This is just posturing to give the false impression that the book is not truthful.

She knows she would lose a lawsuit.

Palin should sue or shut up. She can always write another book describing how much pleasure she received from her dillances. The book would be a mega best seller.

Palin is a "public figure." The law provides very little protection for public figures when it comes to slander or libel. She would have to prove without doubt that the author intentionally and willfully meant to smear her name and reputation out of malice. Not an easy thing to do. Palin knows this very well. Her comments are just a means to stay in the spotlight.

All I can say Sarah is ha ha ha ha ha! What, can't stand a little heat in the kitchen? If you want to be president of any country you gotta have thicker skin Sarah; you can't go crying to a lawyer and threaten to sue just because you don't like or agree with the truth!

I think this book is a classic example of the left's way of doing things. Insinuations, bald face lies, misleading. Reminds me all over again how this current failure of an administration was put into power based on standard democratic tools of warfare. Egads, hope people are waking up, after all he has less people liking him than Jimmy Carter. Can you say 4 years is enough? I hope so

    @Gregory

I hope Sarah Palin goes forward with a lawsuit. She is a breath of fresh air in a room full of corruption and back stabbing power mongers. God Bless her and her family. I share her views and religious beliefs. I don't believe the lies coming from the lefty media.
