(CNN) - One week after the release of a controversial book on Sarah Palin, the former Alaska governor threatened to sue the book's author for including what her lawyer called a "series of lies and rumors presented as fact."
The book, "The Rogue," by Joe McGinniss, has received widespread attention since McGinniss moved in next door to Palin to begin writing in 2010.
Crown Publishing Group, a division of Random House and publisher of the book, stood by the title and McGinniss.
"We are confident that the reporting in THE ROGUE is solid, reliable, and well-substantiated," said spokesman Stuart Applebaum in an email on Wednesday.
Shortly before the book hit shelves last week, Palin's husband, Todd, lashed out at McGinniss, saying the author had been "relentlessly" stalking his family and filled the book with "lies, innuendo and smears."
In a letter sent to the book's publisher, Crown Publishing Group, Palin's lawyer said Monday both McGinniss and Crown knowingly published false information and "defamed the Palins."
McGinniss has staunchly defended the title.
"Believe me, I'm so sick of Sarah Palin right now, that after this couple (of) weeks is over, I hope to never hear her name again," McGinniss said last week on CNN's "Piers Morgan Tonight."
McGinniss said that he had originally set out to write a book about Alaska, when Palin was picked as the 2008 vice presidential running mate for Sen. John McCain
"That made her synonymous with Alaska," McGinniss said. "My book about Alaska became a book about Sarah Palin."
The book has received criticism from a number of news outlets, including The New York Times, which said the book "chases caustic, unsubstantiated gossip."
It has also been hit with harsh reviews over its use of anonymous sources for stories about Palin’s past.
But McGinniss stands by the book's accuracy.
"Sarah Palin has lived an outrageous life," McGinniss said on CNN's "American Morning" last week. "All I did was talk to people about it, and they documented it for me. When I was comfortable with the veracity of what I heard, I put it into the book. There were a lot of things that I wasn't comfortable with, that I didn't put them in."

Well, of course, Sarah and Todd see yet another chance to make some money. This one will cost them. Hopefully lots.
"Lies and rumors presented as fact." Doesn't that some up the whole birther movement that Sarah's followers are so fond of?
I believe it is all accurate. Anyway, does she feel guilty about all the lie's about the President?
She should sue him so that it will all go to court, and America will be able to listen to hundreds of witnesses from Alaska tell their stories under oath. Of course Sarah will have to testify under oath also.
this is the price you pay when you love publicity and being in the public's eye.
Wow! Sarah has a problem with lies? She is reaping what she sowed!
At lease it's something to do while she doesn't run for president. Poor poor misunderstood Sarah. Such a victim.
this book is more factually correct than anything that has come out of Palin's mouth
Funny that her own book, that someone else wrote for her, was nothing more than a compendium of lies and falsehoods.
I'd do it. He didn't find enough of the type of dirt he wanted so he made things up.
Don't worry, Joe. She won't sue. She is just trying to keep her name in the news.
She is the fly paper for controversy. Yea reaped what ya all sowed. Happens every time you bring trailer trash into the poltical arena.
Do you think the case will be on Judge Judy?
I am sick of hearing about Sarah Palin she needs to go away and find some small place to stay out of the way of everything everyone and that goes for her family also
She is treading in dangerous waters and now we know if she does not sue then the book must be the truth. The Publisher and author have been ready for a law suit long before the book was published so their legal team has already checked and fact checked the book and will be more then ready for anything Palin throws their way. Palin loses either way, if she sues more truth will come out and independant verification will only help the author proove the truth and if she does not sue that means she accepts that there is more truth than rumor in the book. Palin saying that she might sue is the best thing that could ever happen for the publisher because it is a win, win for them
Wasn't Tort reform supposed to end these types of nuisance suits? Where does the GOP stand on this, I wonder, now that one of their own is suing over this? Has the president threatended to sue any of the authors of the garbage they have written about him, or is this yet another example of the hypocrisy of the GOP/TP?
Sarah could find a way to cash-in at a homeless shelter.
"...series of lies and rumors presented as fact." Much like her answers to tough questions while on the 2008 campaign trail when she was a candidate, and now on the Tea Party express.
McGinniss just threw Palin another 'lifeline' by extending her stay in the limelight through his book.
Instead of suing him Palin should be sending him a thank-you note.
Everytime we think this 'monstrosity' has depleted her 15mins. of fame, something or someone come along to unearth her and bring her to the forefront, much to her economic advantage.
If what the author of the book wrote about Palin;s is all lies then what is stopping her from suing him instead of the empty threats. Thre must be some fire under the smoke for sure.
What happened to the Freedom of Speech? As a true patriot she should let it slide. But as a fluke that she is, she doesn't even have the guts to sue. Why threaten when you can sue? It takes something like this book to teach these teabaggers a valuable lesson. It is easier to lie about others, but the truth hurts. I encourage the Palins to sue which I highly doubt will happen because this they know how to bark but not to bite.
So I should sue her for the lies and rumors presented as facts that she has spewed ever since she hit the scene?
The whole Palin family is dysfunctional and that is what the book describes?
Who cares anymore? The only people who follow Palin do so out of morbid curiosity.
Oh, please! Sarah Palin is the QUEEN of "lies and rumor presented as truth".....e.g. "death panels", "blood libel" and the whole facade of parading her pregnant daughter around with Levi Johnston as if they REALLY were going to get married and be together – Rrrrrrright. It was all a BIG LIE! And that was just the tip of the iceberg.
