(CNN) - One week after the release of a controversial book on Sarah Palin, the former Alaska governor threatened to sue the book's author for including what her lawyer called a "series of lies and rumors presented as fact."
The book, "The Rogue," by Joe McGinniss, has received widespread attention since McGinniss moved in next door to Palin to begin writing in 2010.
Crown Publishing Group, a division of Random House and publisher of the book, stood by the title and McGinniss.
"We are confident that the reporting in THE ROGUE is solid, reliable, and well-substantiated," said spokesman Stuart Applebaum in an email on Wednesday.
Shortly before the book hit shelves last week, Palin's husband, Todd, lashed out at McGinniss, saying the author had been "relentlessly" stalking his family and filled the book with "lies, innuendo and smears."
In a letter sent to the book's publisher, Crown Publishing Group, Palin's lawyer said Monday both McGinniss and Crown knowingly published false information and "defamed the Palins."
McGinniss has staunchly defended the title.
"Believe me, I'm so sick of Sarah Palin right now, that after this couple (of) weeks is over, I hope to never hear her name again," McGinniss said last week on CNN's "Piers Morgan Tonight."
McGinniss said that he had originally set out to write a book about Alaska, when Palin was picked as the 2008 vice presidential running mate for Sen. John McCain
"That made her synonymous with Alaska," McGinniss said. "My book about Alaska became a book about Sarah Palin."
The book has received criticism from a number of news outlets, including The New York Times, which said the book "chases caustic, unsubstantiated gossip."
It has also been hit with harsh reviews over its use of anonymous sources for stories about Palin’s past.
But McGinniss stands by the book's accuracy.
"Sarah Palin has lived an outrageous life," McGinniss said on CNN's "American Morning" last week. "All I did was talk to people about it, and they documented it for me. When I was comfortable with the veracity of what I heard, I put it into the book. There were a lot of things that I wasn't comfortable with, that I didn't put them in."

Yes Sarah lets get on down to court now...Led Zepplin – When the Levee Breaks...in Alaska...Taliban Todd...Sinister Sarah
Read between the lines, "may sue" – translation? She knows the ramification of such a move would open up a can of worms that she is in no position to answer. Win, win, win for the publisher.
Palin is just looking for more time to keep her name in the media. She is not going to sue anybody. She loves ALL attention. She probably was a source for this book herself. She is moronic and irrelevant to America of today.
She does realize that she can't sue just because she doesn't like what he reported, doesn't she? I mean, it's not like Fox News, in a court of law the facts matter. (For those of you in the Tea Party, "facts" are those pesky little things that get in the way of your opinions).
She will Not sue, bank on it. this is just another way to get free press, but she will not sue, no way. She will threaten to sue time and time again as long as she gets the free press.
It's only Libel and Slander if it IS NOT true, Sarah
Public figure and I've read the book. I wished he would have been tabloid but, of course those that do not agree have not read the book, which is typical.
Whatever you think of Sarah Palin – this book was a shoddy gossip piece which bordered on harassment. At the very least it is pretty creepy that this "author" took such a twisted interest in Palin that his book turned out to be a about nothing but gossip. At least write about something and throw some juicy nuggets in there, but it is clear this idiot was out there just to defame another person which isn't right.
A "series of lies and rumors presented as fact." – Really Sarah???!! How ironic...so, are you the pot or the kettle?
Sue, Sarah, Sue!!!!!!
Very presidential! Maybe Obama should sue you for calling him a socialist! Rove was right, Sarah, your skin is very thin!
I hope she sues the hell out of the maggot.
I look forward to this lawsuit. The defense witness list will be longl and interesting with Glenn Rice in attendance.
Sarah's so hawt! Glad to see she's following her talents and being a celebutante instead of a politician!
I wish Sarah WOULD sue! I'd love to hear Glen Rice's version of what happened on that cold night when he and Sarah shared cover. She is finally getting a taste of her own medicine. This is loverly!
It is pretty telling when I read these posts that liberals are NOT compassionate to their fellow man – they are actually some of the most hate filled people out there. Pretty sad that so many would get enjoyment from watching this "author" move in next door to the Palins and harass them for a bunch of gossip in a fluff book with the only intention of defaming Sarah Palin. Doesn't matter who this book was about...it was wrong.
The level of hate the left has for this woman is incredible.
Don't threaten, Sarah. Just do it. The book is already released. Threats are meaningless at this point.
The funny thing is, if she had just ignored it, barely any one would even know about it. Just like her own book, no one would buy it. The more she reacts to it, the more that people want to know what's in it.
For crying out loud....this woman can't fart without the MSM trying to sniffit (wink wink) and then tell us all about the bouqet. Ridiculous.
She should sue and break this sob.
Oh my, who is calling the kettle black, what is good for the goose is good for the gander and so on. Just goes to show when you pass it out, you had better be prepared to take it. Sarah Palin lies all the time. Drill baby drill? She used to fight the oil companies because she knew the oil, once out of the ground is sold on the open market and does not belong to the American people. But now she says what ever puts cash in her pockets.
Oh go ahead and sue. One thing though. In this case have the public bid to be on the jury. All procedes going to the national debt! Lets start the bidding at $100!
Sarah doesn't like the truth to come out. It might hurt her speaking income from the rubes...yeah, right, the rubes are rubes for a reason.
Don't you already have enough money from that lame TV show you did? C'mon, just go back to being a crooked politician with spoiled kids and let the rest of us have a break from your drama. Some people prefer to live life, not listen to over-privileged nut jobs with an inferiority complex drone on and on about how great they can make the world.....as long as there's a hefty paycheck in it.
I can't wait for all the sworn in witnesses to start talking but I bet Sarah is never going to let it go that far.
