Palin threatens lawsuit over book

(CNN) - One week after the release of a controversial book on Sarah Palin, the former Alaska governor threatened to sue the book's author for including what her lawyer called a "series of lies and rumors presented as fact."

The book, "The Rogue," by Joe McGinniss, has received widespread attention since McGinniss moved in next door to Palin to begin writing in 2010.

Crown Publishing Group, a division of Random House and publisher of the book, stood by the title and McGinniss.

"We are confident that the reporting in THE ROGUE is solid, reliable, and well-substantiated," said spokesman Stuart Applebaum in an email on Wednesday.

Shortly before the book hit shelves last week, Palin's husband, Todd, lashed out at McGinniss, saying the author had been "relentlessly" stalking his family and filled the book with "lies, innuendo and smears."

In a letter sent to the book's publisher, Crown Publishing Group, Palin's lawyer said Monday both McGinniss and Crown knowingly published false information and "defamed the Palins."

McGinniss has staunchly defended the title.

"Believe me, I'm so sick of Sarah Palin right now, that after this couple (of) weeks is over, I hope to never hear her name again," McGinniss said last week on CNN's "Piers Morgan Tonight."

McGinniss said that he had originally set out to write a book about Alaska, when Palin was picked as the 2008 vice presidential running mate for Sen. John McCain

"That made her synonymous with Alaska," McGinniss said. "My book about Alaska became a book about Sarah Palin."

The book has received criticism from a number of news outlets, including The New York Times, which said the book "chases caustic, unsubstantiated gossip."

It has also been hit with harsh reviews over its use of anonymous sources for stories about Palin’s past.

But McGinniss stands by the book's accuracy.

"Sarah Palin has lived an outrageous life," McGinniss said on CNN's "American Morning" last week. "All I did was talk to people about it, and they documented it for me. When I was comfortable with the veracity of what I heard, I put it into the book. There were a lot of things that I wasn't comfortable with, that I didn't put them in."

...a "series of lies and rumors presented as fact." Sounds like all of her speeches.

Does it bother no one else that this McGinniss moved in NEXT DOOR to the woman so he could write about her? Plenty of books have been written about her and none of those authors became her next door neighbor.

Oh, please, Palin. Have some class. Did Obama threaten to sue when Ingraham's "The Obama Diaries" came out? And that nasty little piece of work is put on the non-fiction shelves of libraries (under political humor). The lesson to palin is that if you want to be in the spotlight, you have to roll with the heckling.

the republikans have shown how weak they are by letting a rich civilian lead them around by the nose. Sarah had better sue, because if she does not, it is proof what is in the book is true!

My local book store had Sarah's "Going Rogue" book placed in their comedy section. Now that's funny!
She should have looked up the word "rogue" before using it, it pretty accurately describes her.

This woman is so predictable... she's nothing but an Andy Griffith character that caters to the mass morons in this country who can't think for themselves and wish to go back to the 50's.

Hey Keeping it Real - How do you know this book was not fact checked? Because Sarah said so? Don't you think Random House would require fact checking prior to printing in order to cover their behinds? I think you are just assuming facts not in evidence.

There is a segment of our society that looks up to this person. If that does not frighten you, nothing will.

What I get from the above first statement of this article is that $arah DID NOT read the book, her lawyer did – and probably skimmed it at that. This is funnier than funny!!

F L Schmild. – the only person that seems to think that the news that Sarah slept with a black man has ruined her political career is Sarah herself!...and apparently you! The rest of us don't care, I think it's funny that she is trying so hard to hide it....that shows me she is ashamed of it beyond the "one night stand" stigma.

Too bad Palin- your a public figure and you would have to prove damages and malice -fat chance. It is interesting how so many unqualified and intellectually challenged people have been making money.

The book title reflects on him. The psycho, Joe McGinniss goes as far as to move next door to the Palins. And claims to be sick of the Palins but wants monetary rewards off the slanderous book about the Palins. The Crown Publishing Group should also be sued for printing books on a living person without their consent

All of you guys posting on here spew nothing but the liberal lies you have come to accept as fact. Yall hate Palin because she threatens you and is dangersous because she is a beautiful, smart, conservative woman. She has more common sense than your so called messiah "Obama". So how is all that hope and change working for you? How many of you lost your jobs or is your only job is to post these liberal lies for the left.

Bring the lawsuit or shut up.
Idiot palin is bluffing. She knows that all the material has been fact-checked.
This is what she does best, make a totally false statement one day ("I'll sue!") knowing such a statement will get headlines and her followers won't have the intelligence to notice when she doesn't file suit.
Whole family of losers......most americans would be ashamed....
