(CNN) - One week after the release of a controversial book on Sarah Palin, the former Alaska governor threatened to sue the book's author for including what her lawyer called a "series of lies and rumors presented as fact."
The book, "The Rogue," by Joe McGinniss, has received widespread attention since McGinniss moved in next door to Palin to begin writing in 2010.
Crown Publishing Group, a division of Random House and publisher of the book, stood by the title and McGinniss.
"We are confident that the reporting in THE ROGUE is solid, reliable, and well-substantiated," said spokesman Stuart Applebaum in an email on Wednesday.
Shortly before the book hit shelves last week, Palin's husband, Todd, lashed out at McGinniss, saying the author had been "relentlessly" stalking his family and filled the book with "lies, innuendo and smears."
In a letter sent to the book's publisher, Crown Publishing Group, Palin's lawyer said Monday both McGinniss and Crown knowingly published false information and "defamed the Palins."
McGinniss has staunchly defended the title.
"Believe me, I'm so sick of Sarah Palin right now, that after this couple (of) weeks is over, I hope to never hear her name again," McGinniss said last week on CNN's "Piers Morgan Tonight."
McGinniss said that he had originally set out to write a book about Alaska, when Palin was picked as the 2008 vice presidential running mate for Sen. John McCain
"That made her synonymous with Alaska," McGinniss said. "My book about Alaska became a book about Sarah Palin."
The book has received criticism from a number of news outlets, including The New York Times, which said the book "chases caustic, unsubstantiated gossip."
It has also been hit with harsh reviews over its use of anonymous sources for stories about Palin’s past.
But McGinniss stands by the book's accuracy.
"Sarah Palin has lived an outrageous life," McGinniss said on CNN's "American Morning" last week. "All I did was talk to people about it, and they documented it for me. When I was comfortable with the veracity of what I heard, I put it into the book. There were a lot of things that I wasn't comfortable with, that I didn't put them in."

What CNN failed to mention above was the email from McGinniss to his publisher obtained by Breitbart, wherein he basically admitted he could get no proof of his smears he put in the book, and conceded they were nothing more than "tawdry gossip"! And where there is one email, there is likely many others out there indicating McGinniss's dishonesty. His book is defamation pure and simple - and I hope he gets the pants sued off of him, and his publisher Random House too. McGinniss's email gives her legal team solid evidence his book is nothing more than an odious hit job. McGinniss is a disgusting man who will get his just desserts. And this will hopefully deter all the other journalistic jackals out there who indulge in animus-filled defamation of character.
Sarah Palin 2012 "Restoring America"!
Sarah. If you sue, you're going to need a TRIAL LAWYER. But you have declared that Trial Lawyers are one of the evils we need to do away with in our country. So, once again, you're a hypocrite. Do as I say and not as I do. She has no shame.
Go get'm Sarah. Just think if this creep did the same thing to Hillary Clinton.............just think.
Whine, whine, whine scoopdepoop. Just another loser.
Sister Sarah loves to make things up about everybody else (especially Obama) but sues at negative comments against her. Sounds like a Republican to me.
Karma has got you, Sarah. Remember putting cross hairs over people's pictures? What goes around, comes around.
He is sick of her??? Who wrote about who!if he is sick of her its his own fault for stalking the family and publishing a book about them. He moved up there to write about the state and changed into a creepy stalker author! Hope she wins.
Pot, meet Kettle!
the liberal preoccupation with Sarah Palin comes from you guys. What hypocrisy! On one hand you say you wish she would just go away but on the other you keep spewing your hatred at her keeping her right dab in the middle of it all. Fact is I am really not a big Sarah Palin fan but I love how she give you liberals such heart burn. LOL
He should have to have prove the stories are true before publishing them
I understand Joe is moving next store to Michelle Bachman. Is nothing sacred anymore!!!
The "crosshairs" were over voting districts you idiot.
And they weren't "crosshairs", they were surveyor's sights. Do your homework.
Sarah, tort reform starts at home.
please go away sarah
Misleading headline, she didn't say she would sue, and I would put money on it that she won't.
Sue or don't sue. That's fine. But threatening to sue is as immature as threatening to tell the teacher on you. She needs to grow up.
Whatever else she may be, she is a former beauty contestant who was elected to Governor of Alaska and quit after two years because of investigations into her actions. She's a quitter. Americans don't vote for quitters.
Does this mean she won't be accepting a million bucks from Larry Flynt?
Did Sarah actually read a book?
Sorry, Nokat, writers can legally write books about "public" people, and if you think that $arah hasn't gotten more than her fair share of publicity, then you're living under a rock! And to Scoopdedoop – probably your real name – you have to be NUTS to put the word SMART in the same sentence as silly Sarah....she is far removed from being smart. I feel sorry for you because the rest of us libs are SMART enough to see through her. But apparently, you don't....
Great! Sue him. His book will sell a million copies.
OK I am not a fan of Ms Palin . BUT attacking her is way off base, unless you have the facts to back up statements >
And I must admit I think he does not have it . So Ms Palin if yopu & the family decide to sue may you yank this jerks
McGinniss should countersue the Palins for photographing McGinniss at his home and publishing it on the Internet. The Palins invaded his privacy! See it in his book.
