Palin threatens lawsuit over book

(CNN) - One week after the release of a controversial book on Sarah Palin, the former Alaska governor threatened to sue the book's author for including what her lawyer called a "series of lies and rumors presented as fact."

The book, "The Rogue," by Joe McGinniss, has received widespread attention since McGinniss moved in next door to Palin to begin writing in 2010.

Crown Publishing Group, a division of Random House and publisher of the book, stood by the title and McGinniss.

"We are confident that the reporting in THE ROGUE is solid, reliable, and well-substantiated," said spokesman Stuart Applebaum in an email on Wednesday.

Shortly before the book hit shelves last week, Palin's husband, Todd, lashed out at McGinniss, saying the author had been "relentlessly" stalking his family and filled the book with "lies, innuendo and smears."

In a letter sent to the book's publisher, Crown Publishing Group, Palin's lawyer said Monday both McGinniss and Crown knowingly published false information and "defamed the Palins."

McGinniss has staunchly defended the title.

"Believe me, I'm so sick of Sarah Palin right now, that after this couple (of) weeks is over, I hope to never hear her name again," McGinniss said last week on CNN's "Piers Morgan Tonight."

McGinniss said that he had originally set out to write a book about Alaska, when Palin was picked as the 2008 vice presidential running mate for Sen. John McCain

"That made her synonymous with Alaska," McGinniss said. "My book about Alaska became a book about Sarah Palin."

The book has received criticism from a number of news outlets, including The New York Times, which said the book "chases caustic, unsubstantiated gossip."

It has also been hit with harsh reviews over its use of anonymous sources for stories about Palin’s past.

But McGinniss stands by the book's accuracy.

"Sarah Palin has lived an outrageous life," McGinniss said on CNN's "American Morning" last week. "All I did was talk to people about it, and they documented it for me. When I was comfortable with the veracity of what I heard, I put it into the book. There were a lot of things that I wasn't comfortable with, that I didn't put them in."

Anyone else sick of this person? She's like the Paris Hilton of politics–famous for doing nothing.

All of these extremist fanatic curent day republicans believe they should be able to slander anyone, but no one should ever say one bad word about them, no matter what they do. Grow up Sarah, this is the world of politics, the limelight and attention you can't seem to live without!

Could you imagine Tod being told to sleep on the couch for bad behaviour? Sarah 's law is -- Do what I say but don't do what I do. The people of Alaska know that phrase very well.

Of course she wants to sue. Free money, free publicity and she gets to go on yapping her ignorant mouth while NOT working at any real job. She is both a fool and Alaska's premier Village Idiot.

Palin will never sue, because she knows the undeniable truth that would emerge.

    She has no grounds.

She is a public figure and therefore has little to no expectation or privacy, and as such her right to sue is diminished.

And even if she does, it will make her look petty instead of taking the high road and simply ignoring it or brushing it off.

a "series of lies and rumors presented as fact."
In that case, is she suing fox news as well?

The Liar Of The Century and her 2-bit lawyer are playing her victim card by playing "on the verge" of "threatening to sue". If there were any grounds to stand on any decent lawyer would have quietly gathered all their facts and actually filed a suit. Don't retreat, reload! Pffffffft All bark and no bite – just a whiny yipping aging chihuahua desperately trying to remain relevant.

another publicity stunt, another flare fired in the middle of the night by the Queen of Victimhood and Fake Outrage. the suit will be dropped once Sarah realizes how much it will cost to pursue it. imagine the lawyers lining up to fight over that pie........

Hell, I wouldn't worry about it. She has never finished anything in her life, she probably won't complete filling out the paperwork to sue. The truth be known, she is probably thinking (and using all her brain cells in the process) about suing because someone wrote a more popular book about her than she did.
Got'cha, Palin. Your 15 minutes were up about 45 minutes ago.

You can ALWAYS sue, but, YOU have to prove that the written word is UNTRUE. Good luck VP loser, you rack up another LOSS.

It is curious that the same person who has been trashing her political opponents with made up facts and ever changing stories every day for the past three years is now suing others for making up facts and trashing her...

McGinness is thanking his lucky stars today that Palin took the bait. I give Palin credit, whenever someone throws mud at her, she shows herself to be at the same level as them.

The author has nothing to fear. Have read the book. Was not surprised about anything the book contained. It is obvious by the Palins' backlash at the author that they are trying to protect their cash cow–the Sarah Palin image. Unfortunately for the Palins, Pandora's box is now open–actually it was first opened by Levi Johnson and now confirmed by this author. So the Palins would better serve themselves by saving their cash from their attorneys and just roll with the publicity.

Isnt this the type of "frivilous lawsuit" that she and her cronies hate so much? How quickly they turn. Better hope she is not successful or she will tun her movement into the next Westboro Baptist Church. They have the same mantra but it's what happens back at the office that really counts. it's like Howard Stern for Neanderthals.

I seriously think that the Republicans wanted to distance themselves from her all along. How ludicrous a notion would it be to have her as governor or vp? She's the Peggy Bundy of politics, the book should have been called "Married with Children in Alaska"...

Not only do you lack the intellectual curiosity to be a leader, you lack the nerve and the toughness oh thin-skinned Queen of Crosshairs. You have no problem spewing your green-pea laden soup of lies and false claims about others but when it is volleyed in return with sprinkles, dashes, and double-helpings of truth, you can't take it and you continue to prove this time and again. Proof positive you are running for Ms. Professional Angry-Middle-Aged Gadfly USA. You have no aspirations for any political office nor do you support or give two hoots towards any political agenda that is legitimate. You punked the Tea Party! Hilarious!
