Palin threatens lawsuit over book

(CNN) - One week after the release of a controversial book on Sarah Palin, the former Alaska governor threatened to sue the book's author for including what her lawyer called a "series of lies and rumors presented as fact."

The book, "The Rogue," by Joe McGinniss, has received widespread attention since McGinniss moved in next door to Palin to begin writing in 2010.

Crown Publishing Group, a division of Random House and publisher of the book, stood by the title and McGinniss.

"We are confident that the reporting in THE ROGUE is solid, reliable, and well-substantiated," said spokesman Stuart Applebaum in an email on Wednesday.

Shortly before the book hit shelves last week, Palin's husband, Todd, lashed out at McGinniss, saying the author had been "relentlessly" stalking his family and filled the book with "lies, innuendo and smears."

In a letter sent to the book's publisher, Crown Publishing Group, Palin's lawyer said Monday both McGinniss and Crown knowingly published false information and "defamed the Palins."

McGinniss has staunchly defended the title.

"Believe me, I'm so sick of Sarah Palin right now, that after this couple (of) weeks is over, I hope to never hear her name again," McGinniss said last week on CNN's "Piers Morgan Tonight."

McGinniss said that he had originally set out to write a book about Alaska, when Palin was picked as the 2008 vice presidential running mate for Sen. John McCain

"That made her synonymous with Alaska," McGinniss said. "My book about Alaska became a book about Sarah Palin."

The book has received criticism from a number of news outlets, including The New York Times, which said the book "chases caustic, unsubstantiated gossip."

It has also been hit with harsh reviews over its use of anonymous sources for stories about Palin’s past.

But McGinniss stands by the book's accuracy.

"Sarah Palin has lived an outrageous life," McGinniss said on CNN's "American Morning" last week. "All I did was talk to people about it, and they documented it for me. When I was comfortable with the veracity of what I heard, I put it into the book. There were a lot of things that I wasn't comfortable with, that I didn't put them in."

Good for her because 2 can play that game. While Palain was governor Soros and his Democrats thugs he funded filed as many frivilious lawsuits as they could against her. I'm glad she now has the menas to turn the tables against these spinless cowards . She was smart enough to accept that as governor she would never be able to defend herself properly and would also place Alaskans in the percarious position to have to defend all these frivilious lawsuits. Liberal men and women are afraid of a women who are more man than they are. Obama included because he has never once had to kill to for all the food he irreverently consumes and pays others to slaughter for him. I don't think he would have guts like Palin. The Native Americans understand paying respect for the food they kill. To kill your own food personally shows that you have to ability to understand the gift you have been given.

I can believe the books is a bunch of rumors and lies, but isn't that what she did with Obama. "He's not one of us".
What goes around comes around. btw, I find this kind of book distateful, but I can't feel sorry for her.

She should sue Cantor for lying about his allegiances. sources reporting that Cantor secretly sought FEMA funds for his district, for disaster repair, while trying to simultaneously trying to drain its assets. Righties- Reconcile that!

Libel is almost impossible to prosecute in the US. SHE ought to know this. She's walked that tightrope herself many times with the things she's said.

Personally I wish you would have just kept your topic on the beautiful state of Alaska. It would had saved yourself a lot of potential expensive court time, and the rest of us the suddon smack of nausia I just fought off...Please, can Palin go away already? NO MORE BOOKS!!

Hopefully, she will sue. Then the author can parade evidence in front of the court to legally prove that she's the pathological liar that any sane person already knows she is.

Of course she'll sue. She's been on nothing but a mad dash for as much money that she can possibly compile. She has sold her name, her image, her career...literally, sold her job as governor as her husband, Todd, so brazenly pointed out.

This woman would and will do anything for money. It's hilarious to me that Americans on the right are so dumb that they cannot see the simple truth that makes up this woman's fake life. She profits off of her fans because her 'fans' are dumb enough to support the facade that she is.

Only in America. Because Americans are the only people stupid enough to give this woman money. Why do you think she decided not to run for president? She knows that she cannot win and she's afraid she'll have to spend some of her own money.

We are a sick, depraved nation when we hold a woman like this up as some example. Her love of money and her greed are unprecedented except maybe by the evil doers on Wall Street who game the system to profit off of suffering and loss.

This is not about liking, or not liking, Sarah Palin and her politics. As a matter of human decency, the way she has been treated by the Left is beyond outrageous and reprehensible. It astounds me that people who talked so much about tolerance a few years ago, and potificated about inflamatory rhetoric after the Phoenix shootings, have been willing to observe absolutely no boundaries in attacking Sarah Palin and her family.

I'm not really a fan of hers, but judging from the conduct of her enemies, maybe I should be.

Sarah Palin is a public figure - to state the obvious - and she won't get a penny in any lawsuit. Not one. However, she will reinforce, with absolute certainty, that she is "off the charts" dumb. Dumb as they get.

Gee Sarah, I thought you people were against junk lawsuits. And as to "lies and rumors presented as fact" all you have to do is turn on Fox News for those, yet I don't see you howling one word about that.
