Cain: Black community 'brainwashed' into voting for Dems

Washington (CNN) - The one African-American running for the GOP presidential nomination said Wednesday the black community was 'brainwashed' for traditionally siding with liberal politicians.

"African-Americans have been brainwashed into not being open minded, not even considering a conservative point of view," Godfather's Pizza executive Herman Cain said on CNN's "The Situation Room" in an interview airing Wednesday between 5-7 p.m. ET. "I have received some of that same vitriol simply because I am running for the Republican nomination as a conservative. So it's just brainwashing and people not being open minded, pure and simple."

Cain went on to explain that his interactions with African Americans led him to be optimistic about his own chances with the demographic.

"This whole notion that all African-Americans are not going to vote for Obama is not necessarily true," Cain said.

He continued, "I believe a third [of African-Americans] would vote for me, based on my own anecdotal feedback. Not vote for me because I'm black but because of my policies."

Cain also weighed in on the recent chatter surrounding Chris Christie, saying the recent reports the New Jersey governor is reconsidering a run for president were hurting the electorate.

"It's not insulting as much as it is a disservice to the American people," Cain said. "Chris Christie has been saying for a long time he's not interested in running. The media is trying to create a story by sucking Chris Christie into race, just like they made a story by sucking Rick Perry into the race."

Cain said the media should focus on the candidates who have already declared their candidacy to give voters a better idea of the field.

No Obama won because he is black. African Americans seen a black man running and went crazy. There was a local news story about an hour from where I live. They were covering the election. They interviewed a woman that was an 80-90 year old African American that only voted because Obama was black and she said that on TV. Now you tell me the whole election now isn't based upon race.

I was shocked to read that a black man had the audacity to proclaiming that other black persons are brain washed. Truly I see that your brain has been washed with a superficial idea that you know every black person on the planet. Wow. So sad.

So Herman, you don't think that black are capable of thinking for themselves. You don't think they can see which party disrespects the first black President, which party's Presidential cadidates signed a pledge that said slavery was a good thing for black children, you don't think that black people can see the hate filled tea party, their racist signs and actions. I thiink you might not have a brain to be brainwashed, if you think that all Americans can't see what the Republican party stands for, all Americans other than the idiot baggers or the richest two percent.

Seriously Truth: If i were an 80-90 year old Black woman I would've voted for Obama simply because he was Black as it would've been an event that NEVER IN MY LIFETIME did I ever think I would see, and at 80-90 years of age the chances of that happenning again would've been slim to NONE.

    Come on now.

    Cain is right on!

It's absolutely hilarious that African Americans don't realize their own BLATANT racism because they vote for a candidate just becuase they are black. At least the white man is able to think independently and vote for a half black Presidential candidate. Pretty funny stuff. It's so weird that black people rarely vote for a white candidate.

    Blasphemy!

Blacks are racists because they vote for candidates just because they were black??? Since when in our history have we had more than one black President to prove your ASSUMPTION? Last time I checked we've had 43 out of 44 white Presidents and guess what? Blacks voted for the white Presidents in large percentages over previous black candidates PRIOR to Prresident Obama. Those previous black candidates were: Shirley Chisolm, Lenora Fulani, Jessie Jackson, Al Sharpton and Alan Keyes. None of those candidates received 90% of the black vote.

Now guess WHO did receive 90% of the black vote prior to President Obama? Exit polls revealed that Mondale, Dukakis and Gore all received 90% of the black vote. Clinton and Kerry received in the mid-80% of the black vote. Last I checkee they were all white. So your black on black vote = racism and blacks rarely vote for white candidate FAILES miserable. Your real problem is 1 black President out of 44 is one too many regardless of the reasons why he was favored over McCain and his "Nurse."

Beat it Cain I'm an Independant and still would not vote for you. It's not that I am brainwashed I just know the Republican party is not the party for blacks. I do believe that your party is the party of Strum thurmond, eric Cantor, and Trent Lott. Most of the Southern Republicans are closet racists it is in the code words they send out everyday. They call Obama Supporters the "Welfare State" such condemning statements really turn me off. I do not like welfare nor do I like any other type of hand out. Brother you fit the saying "just because you're black doesn't mean you have my back". President Obama lucky Bloomberg will not run or it would be a wrap for him.

There is no color, only socioeconomic status. The real brainwashing is convincing the middle and lower classes that you can be rich too if you vote for the GOP candidate.

That would be because the very definition of being conservative is the opposite of being open minded you idiot. You resist change, you resist new ideas, you resist accepting other people's way of life. That is what conservatism is.

Since Democrats have no facts they must resort to basless attacks, thanks for the latest example Obama mama.

BTW, you know what Democrats do, keep washing if you want but you will never get all the blood of inner cities Americans over the past 40 years off your hands.

It is no wonder you libs are all atheists, the thought of answering to a god for the evil that you support and wishing death upon every American who doesn't march lock step to your hate based klan starting ideology scares you to no end.

Nothing wins hearts and minds like telling people they are so stupid they have allowed themselves to be brainwashed.

As I look down Cain's list of accomplishments I see they he was a leader in sabotaging Clinton's attempt to provide universal health care for the citizenry.

Quite an impressive curriculum vitae to showcase for the electorate Mr. Cain.

Brainwashed...No really? Oh yeah the Grand Old Party has a history of helping African Americans right? NOT! Mr Cain has been brainwashed only he does not know it yet and now he's trying to get African Americans to embrace the GOP? Get real man. There my be some African Americans that are not informed but everybody's not stupid. Also Americans now see's how weak the Democrats are DEMOCRATS HAVE NO BALLS AND EVERYONE KNOWS IT! It is an insult to Black people to try and tell them that the party of their former slave masters loves them now so you should vote for him. IT"S A NEW DAY NOW MR CAIN. AMERICANS ARE WATCHING AMERICA GOING DOWN ON A SLOW SINKING BOAT AND YOU EXPECT AMERICANS TO BELIEVE THAT YOU WILL SAVE IT ? GET REAL...LOOK IN THE MIRROR.

Boy - blacks don't want to hear this!

It is hilarious that Cain calls out blacks on this issue. I was wondering what ever happened to the White Congressional Caucus? Oh, that's right....if that EVER EVER existed, it would be labeled racist all day long. Wonder why the same isn't true for the Black Congressional Caucus? (Crickets chirping) LOL

You do not see whites, asians, latinos or indians voting over 90% for one party. If you were any other race and voted for someone based on race you would be lambasted. I saw a test where they asked a group of blacks on specific questions on politcal thoughts and a majority of times those views did not sync with the candidate that held their views. Whats sad is almost every race out there can see there own imperfections with regard to race and tries to correct it but with blacks they are more racist than any other grou.

Since your name was truth I thought we should discuss that. Obama really only got 4% more of the black vote than Democrats running for prez got over the last 20 years, so you can't really say that.

Besides with the history that black people have went through in America it is very reasonable and acceptable for them to want a black president.

Let us hope that our 2nd black president goes down in history as one of the greatest who returned our nation to the greatness that it hasn't known since the days of Reagan. Mr. Cain is the real deal, he represents coming from nothing and making something of yourself on your own merits and hard work. No Obama doesn't and neither does any money taking person from the public sector. Cain made his own money, not tax payer money, he is small business, and that is what we need, not a socialist public sector leech or a wallstreet big corp. cronie, we need a man like Heramn Cain.

The interesting thing is Obama received 96% of the black vote in the 2008 election. Since his inaugaration, the unemployment rate for the black community has sky rocketed, this with a black democratic president, and for the first two years of his presidenty a majority in both the house and senate. Not to mention the democrats called both houses for the previous 2 years under Bush. Nice job Democrats supporting the black community. All of your stupid regulations are putting people out of work, not to work. WAKE UP!!!

When Obama was running, my in-box was filled with disgusting, offensive, "monkey" cartoons and jokes, showing Obama as an ape, Obama with a bone through his nose...do you *really,* Herman, think that the people who sent these would ever consider voting for an AA? And trust me, it wasn't Dems sending them~ they were racist Repubs that go to church on Sunday, work in white collar jobs~ not rednecks or illiterates.

Even if you believe Cain's 'brainwashed', the fact remains the Republican party has serious perception problems among blacks, and minorities in general. For years, too many people perceived as racist, or at the very least unsympathetic have been associated with Republicans (your David Dukes, Pat Buchanans, etc). Typically, Republican party has refused to disassociate itself from these extremists, and/or their views, and in some cases makes excuses for them. Blacks in America have never been opposed to a conservative agenda. In some instances (some morality issues), there is a lot of agreement. However, the Republican party has never made itself a viable alternative to the Democratic party. The perception is that we are just not welcome. The sad fact is the Democratic party has been mostly talk for at least the past 40 years, but that has only meant there hasn't been anywhere else to go.

There's a reason you hear the phrase "Principled Republican" from time to time. A Principled Republican is either a libertarian or religious conservative who believes their world view would in the long term benefit all Americans of any color or ethnicity. However, the phrase implies the rest are there to protect white priviledge or corporate priviledge from the lower classes and / or minorities. This is a real problem for any Black conservative.

Since the early 70's Southern Strategy, the Republican party has chosen to be the home of people who pay lip service to libertarianism, but only because it conveniently dovetails with their own racial resentments or economic interest. The Republican candidates speak to these voters in "dog whistles" and "code words" about people who are different from them. Mr. Cain, if nominated will end up the same way that Alan Keyes did when he was recruited to run against Barack Obama. He was also a brilliant orator and one of the most ideological conservative individuals in the country, but at the end of the day the dog whistle Republicans chose to stay home and he was demolished in the election.

I thought all white conservatives were racist? I am white and conservative and I'd vote for Cain in a heart beat.

    ----------------------------------------------------–

Racists always like people (Herman Cain) who are useful to them, no matter their color. It gives them cover. It's like saying you can't be racist b/c you "have a black friend". Only that black friend turns out to be just the postman that delivers your mail six days a week.

Uncle Ruckus has served his purpose. Uncle Ruckus put himself up so TEApublicans like you can point and say "see I'm not racist". Cain IS the TEApublicans official race-cardN. ow that he has accomplished his mission where is Cain in the polls? Why is Fox News ACTIVELY & BEGGING CHRIS "Krispy Kreme" CHRISTIE TO GET IN THE RACE???

As J.C. Watts' dad said, "A black person voting Republican is like a chicken voting for Col. Sanders.
