Cain: Black community 'brainwashed' into voting for Dems

Washington (CNN) - The one African-American running for the GOP presidential nomination said Wednesday the black community was 'brainwashed' for traditionally siding with liberal politicians.

"African-Americans have been brainwashed into not being open minded, not even considering a conservative point of view," Godfather's Pizza executive Herman Cain said on CNN's "The Situation Room" in an interview airing Wednesday between 5-7 p.m. ET. "I have received some of that same vitriol simply because I am running for the Republican nomination as a conservative. So it's just brainwashing and people not being open minded, pure and simple."

Cain went on to explain that his interactions with African Americans led him to be optimistic about his own chances with the demographic.

"This whole notion that all African-Americans are not going to vote for Obama is not necessarily true," Cain said.

He continued, "I believe a third [of African-Americans] would vote for me, based on my own anecdotal feedback. Not vote for me because I'm black but because of my policies."

Cain also weighed in on the recent chatter surrounding Chris Christie, saying the recent reports the New Jersey governor is reconsidering a run for president were hurting the electorate.

"It's not insulting as much as it is a disservice to the American people," Cain said. "Chris Christie has been saying for a long time he's not interested in running. The media is trying to create a story by sucking Chris Christie into race, just like they made a story by sucking Rick Perry into the race."

Cain said the media should focus on the candidates who have already declared their candidacy to give voters a better idea of the field.

Black community have not been Brainwashed into voting for Dems, the fact the matter is no matter how open minded we are to concider a conservative candidate we always feel like that we are not welcome in the republican party. Through out recent history every times there is something going wrong, where there is some type of racial undertone or some type of racism against black people or other minorities someway somehow the Republicans are involve. Also every time there a Republican President or governor they always push for programs that don't help the black commuties. For example we have Gov. Scott of Florida, all he's been doing since got into power is getting ride of all the programs that use to help the black commuties. All of these GOP candidates running for President wanna either get ride of Sociale Security or privatize it and who count the most on social security, the black commuty and other minorities. These are just a few things, among a very long list of reasons, I can think of why the Black community supports Dems instead of Repubs.

""African-Americans have been brainwashed into not being open minded, not even considering a conservative point of view," Cain said..."

Could be. But it could also be that they're smart enough to see past the rhetoric, placing a vote that is in their own best interest. you believe them to be wrong, but the great thing about this country is that people have the freedom to have an opinion and to express it openly. Great freedom, isn't it Mr. Cain?

Yeah, but most conservatives I know aren't open minded...so what's his point?

Yes, they are brainwashed... into voting against an often openly racist party.

Cain made his millions by paying wages that would not allow one to escape poverty, rather trapping generations in a cycle of poverty. The GOPs only idea seem to be to allow corps to pay lower wages and increase their profits – thinking it will provide for more minimum wage jobs – this is not the answer.

Now, why would Cain say this? Self interest, politics?... Consider this, the entire republican party might be brainwashed into "group think". They haven't brought forth a new idea for decades, only new schemes to get the rich richer (and being part of that rich group). [privatize, no taxes, more for defense, less for education & the poor, reward ceo's, support trash talk radio, screw healthcare, screw the country, just gimme my share of the loot]
Add to that the vast brain (washed) power of the tea party that's settling in GOPers heads. Sad, frightening, unacceptable.

Herman is a clown. He should go back to wearing the black gloves and complaining that the rent is to damn high!

Someone needs to tell Herman that the reason the vitriol comes is not that he's a conservative, it's that as a conservative he has had stances such as a "Muslim oath pledge" to work in his cabinet.

I'm more worried that he has no understanding of world affairs as evidenced by his debate answer of 'leave it to the experts,' which is what we all expected from GWB. That did not end well.

Cain is delusional! If the Black Community is all brainwashed, how is it then that he is a Republican?

"African-Americans have been brainwashed into not being open minded, not even considering a conservative point of view," Cain said.
    -------------
Proof positive that Mr. Cain is out of touch with the black community. Most polls that indicate the most black Americans have very conservative social and economic views. The problem is that the politicians espousing those views are mostly viewed as racists. Mr. Cain, do I need to cite you the several examples of conservative racism on display by prominent conservatives in just this year alone?

Does open minded mean you tell one side you will never, ever, ever, raise taxes, even when it's needed the most?

Because Black people are incapable of thinking for themselves huh? Oh Herman...Uncle Tom just doesn't say it enough.

Cain would rather brainwash the blacks to vote republican instead.

Bullhockey. Now I KNOW that Herman Cain is a paid off stooge. The GOTP has done everything they could in the past decades as far back as we can remember to ensure that the black community is going to get the short end of the stick. I'm not black, and I AM a former life-long Republican, and I can tell you that the Republicans know full well what they are doing to the blacks. It is systematic and it is deliberate.

I think Mr. Cain is brainwashed in siding with the republicans even though he knows very well that their policies are taking the country steeply down the steep hill. He should know better to blame all blacks when he is to be blamed. He also knows that repub;licans will never give him the nomination and hence he is just acting as a sppoiler which is again his mistake.

He should quit now before he causes more harm to the country.

Cain said "...not even considering a conservative point of view".
Hmmmm, well how does he explain all the black conservatives in this country?

Then the article goes on to say "Cain went on to explain that his interactions with African Americans led him to be optimistic about his own chances with the demographic."

In other words, more political mumbo jumbo. (talking a lot yet saying nothing!)

This man is the EXACT reaon why most African Americans DON'T vote Republican....because you have to blind and/or STUPID to do so!!!

Has he seen HIS poll numbers lately??!! Until he wakes up and realizes that HE is as toxic to his "conservative base" as is the current President due to his race, he'll keep talking this NONSENSE!! It's as if he doesn't know ANY of his own demographic!!

African-Americans are generally against gay rights and abortion!!......BOTH VERY CONSERVATIVE ISSUES!! But this DUMBA$$ is going to go on record as saying "African-Americans have been brainwashed into not being open minded, not even considering a conservative point of view"!! Hey Herman....Go down to ANY church on Sunday and hear ask them what they feel about gay marriage and abortion!! Maybe then you'll get a grip on your "knowledge of your own people.

And in case you were wondering WHY you're polling below a blithering idiot from Alaska who's not even IN the race, it's because YOU ARE Black.....AND stupid!

  22. Cain is right on!

It's absolutely hilarious that African Americans don't realize their own BLATANT racism because they vote for a candidate just becuase they are black. At least the white man is able to think independently and vote for a half black Presidential candidate. Pretty funny stuff. It's so weird that black people rarely vote for a white candidate.

Agree or disagree with Cain's policies, he is absolutely correct about blacks and other minorities getting locked into a Democrat Party auto-pilot. Open-mindedness is essential for people to make a difference by voting for the right candidate-not the white candidate or the black candidate. And as a person of color, I applaud Herman Cain alluding to another type of racism-the racism that is expressed by a certain political party that thinks they own me because I am a minority and they don't have to serve my best interests or listen to my concerns and just expect me to get in line. I am no one's property.

Are blacks really brainwashed? How many are benefiting from government subsidies such as housing, food stamps, free health care... How many believe they still have to fight for equality? That may be more of it than brainwashing. If you want brainwashing let's look at all the Christians that vote only for Republicans for anti-abortion or now even better preachers telling their congregations that Democrats or not real Christians. If anyone wants to look at brainwashing, lets look at what churches are doing for both sides.

LOL, he is kidding, right? How about they vote Democratic because the Democrats have their best interests at heart, unlike the Republicans who would love to eliminate every one of them! Talk about brainwashed! The right always likes to take a talking point from the left and use it as if it's theirs. Conservatives are the brainwashed ones, so after hearing that they now decide to use it to say liberals are brainwashed. Can't come up with your own slings, so use your opponents.
