Cain: Black community 'brainwashed' into voting for Dems

Washington (CNN) - The one African-American running for the GOP presidential nomination said Wednesday the black community was 'brainwashed' for traditionally siding with liberal politicians.

"African-Americans have been brainwashed into not being open minded, not even considering a conservative point of view," Godfather's Pizza executive Herman Cain said on CNN's "The Situation Room" in an interview airing Wednesday between 5-7 p.m. ET. "I have received some of that same vitriol simply because I am running for the Republican nomination as a conservative. So it's just brainwashing and people not being open minded, pure and simple."

Cain went on to explain that his interactions with African Americans led him to be optimistic about his own chances with the demographic.

"This whole notion that all African-Americans are not going to vote for Obama is not necessarily true," Cain said.

He continued, "I believe a third [of African-Americans] would vote for me, based on my own anecdotal feedback. Not vote for me because I'm black but because of my policies."

Cain also weighed in on the recent chatter surrounding Chris Christie, saying the recent reports the New Jersey governor is reconsidering a run for president were hurting the electorate.

"It's not insulting as much as it is a disservice to the American people," Cain said. "Chris Christie has been saying for a long time he's not interested in running. The media is trying to create a story by sucking Chris Christie into race, just like they made a story by sucking Rick Perry into the race."

Cain said the media should focus on the candidates who have already declared their candidacy to give voters a better idea of the field.

Are you people crazy – without the Republicans the Civil Rights Act would not have been passed! read history – the leadership of the segregationist Jim Crow south was DEMOCRAT and had been for 150 years. Are you people crazy- it was Republicans who worked with Johnson and northern Democrats to get it passed. But it would not have passed without Republicans – read history for crying out loud!

OK I'll bite on the Democrats vs. Republicans and the black community. Since the creation of the welfare state let us take a look at the black community. Your unemployment rate is really probably over 25%, your high school dropout rate is approaching 50%, those who do graduate do so with a math and reading comprehension rate of about 6th grade. You are about 14% of the population and commit about 70% of all violent crime. If you are black you are 7X more likely to be on welfare. Over 70% of your children are born and raised in a single mother home.

I could go on and on with these depressing statistics and you know it. Whether it is a rich white parent giving their kids anything they want without expecting anything form them or the government handing individuals everything without expecting anything it does them both a disservice.

The best social program is still a job.

Nothing has been more harmful to the black community than left wing policies. Nothing.

Oh boy, an article that threatens the left's ability to play the race and victimization card to secure votes for their boy, and all the comment trolls come out to take shots. This country is awake now, you liberals are being exposed for what you are. YOU'RE DONE!!

  4. One day...

One day Americans will wake up to recognize the path they have embraced is a downward spiral, but I am loving it! Until they are willing to get back to the basics that made the country great, they can only blame themselves for their continual decline. False hope, empty promises, and overt lies are not doing anyone, black, white, red, yellow or purple any favors. I say that as an outsider. Your President is a joke to the rest of the world! At this point, the only thing you should concern yourself with is turning your situation around... Obama 2012 will only deliver more of the same. Look at where you are now as compared to two years ago, if you can remove the blinders that American media has helped put in place. Fortunately, my country is following the American model set forth 18yrs ago and is now doing better based on the money this administration has supplied us, and the Americans now living here is helping our economy further! Up and up for me!

Many of your posts are perfect examples of Mr. Cain's statement about brainwashing. Republicans the party of the old south and slavery? The party against civil rights? Where did you folks go to school? Republicans were the ones who were AGAINST slavery and fought FOR civil rights. The democrats fought FOR slavery and AGAINST civil rights. If you have been taught that Repubs are the plantation party goodness knows what else you have been brainwashed with!

There is no question that the black community needs true leadership. Thankfully, we have a few leaders in the form of Tim West and Allen West but it's going to take a lot more than them to put a stop to Jessie Jackson, Al Sharpton, Maxine Waters and many others who perpetuate the problem. We need to eliminate the word "black" in defining any organization of any kind. It serves no useful purpose. For the record, Tim West refused to join the "black" cause. Good for him.

For those of you who don't know about Herman Cain, he's an equal opportunity hater – he not only hates his fellow blacks/African Americans, he also hates Muslims and gays. Look it up.

Finally someone has said this out loud. When we finally turn off the social services spigot, do you really think this community will still vote for democrats?

As I skim this mass for primarily misguided and faulty thinking, one statement stands out. Some benighted intellect calling its self ZB stated that the Republicans are the party of the south. That is so incredibly stupid one has to wonder what type of self medication it is on. Possibly some Kool-aid with a liberal flavoring. Lincoln was a Republican and all of the opposition to integration and civil rights in congress was led by Democrats. We even had a name for them, they were the Dixie-crats. Many of them were Klan members. I guess fools elect fools, so here we are with a bunch of clowns in the Senate and Bozo in the White house.

Does anyone really knows what Hermain Cain's position on anythngis except that he would not have a Muslim in his cabinet? What does that say about him, when we know for 200 plus years the closest Blacks cold get to anyone's cabinet was cleaning one.
Yes, I voted for Obama partly because he's black. So what? I also happen to think that he's a pretty smart guy and would be better than Bush. Blacks had opportunities to vote for Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton in previous years and did not. Reason is because we knew that they were not the best qualified candidates. I think that we (Blacks) don't get enough credit. Can anyone honestly tell me why anyone with any sense would vote for a ticket that has Palin as a VP candidate? That worries me more than anything else. It means that eithere there are a lot of ignorant people or just plain racist who would not vote for a better candidate just because he's black.

I'm just puzzled! For Most of my adult life, the U.S has been controlled by dems. Forty years before the republicans took the house and then the dems got everything and yet they complain and blame rather than fix anything. They can't even read bills and yet they claim to be the ones who are going to fix everything. I think brainwashed is an understatement. Insane is a better term. doing the same thing over and over and over and over...... and then blame others for the inability to do anything. That'll fix it. I'm not sure there's any hope and change there, but thats ok, they're the ones who will fix it. After all CNN says they will.... look into the screen... you're getting sleepy

No the conservatives are exactly that conservatives we believe in morals and hard work, you are responsible for your actions and only YOU NO ONE ELSE are responsible

You, Mr Cain, are brainwashed by the Repubs into thinking they accept you. You see this is the crap that we as African Americans are tired of. You don't have anything to say, your campaign is in the crapper, and no new ideas to help move this country forward. You are grasping at straws Mr Cain into thinking you'll win the Repub nomination. Even if you did, you would never be elected as POTUS because black folks, for the most part, will not vote for you. The crap that you are spewing is what it is–CRAP!!! Drop out Mr Cain and save face because you are looking mighty silly now. Drop out Mr Cain, your goose is cooked.

Amazing how many of you buy into the propaganda that Democrats serve the people and Republicans serve corporations. That's ample evidence of the brainwashing cited by Cain. In actual practice, Republicans believe in equal opportunity, while Democrats believe in equal outcomes.

oh yeah the democrats are for the minorities...its why places like detroit exist....that democrat field of dreams...keeping em dumb and dependent. Remember the democrat party is the party of slavery, racism, the klan and jim crow. As far as the democrats being the party of the middle class, what a joke, democrat policies are proven failures, how many centuries of failure does it take before clueless democrats realize socialism is a failure?

A conservative black man – bring it on. He has my vote as conservatives are the people who we have been waiting for. Not a moderate repub nor compassionate republican. We want and need a conservative. Liberals are over. Every one of their policies fail. If they are so smart then why isn't Europe doing well. It has been run by liberals and it is sinking.Conservative Americans are what is going to save our nation from falling into the abyss that the liberal brainwashing mindset has done to it. "We are going to get to where we need to be" (quote by Obama) but true if a conservative wins next year. Go Cain Go!
