Cain: Black community 'brainwashed' into voting for Dems

Washington (CNN) - The one African-American running for the GOP presidential nomination said Wednesday the black community was 'brainwashed' for traditionally siding with liberal politicians.

"African-Americans have been brainwashed into not being open minded, not even considering a conservative point of view," Godfather's Pizza executive Herman Cain said on CNN's "The Situation Room" in an interview airing Wednesday between 5-7 p.m. ET. "I have received some of that same vitriol simply because I am running for the Republican nomination as a conservative. So it's just brainwashing and people not being open minded, pure and simple."

Cain went on to explain that his interactions with African Americans led him to be optimistic about his own chances with the demographic.

"This whole notion that all African-Americans are not going to vote for Obama is not necessarily true," Cain said.

He continued, "I believe a third [of African-Americans] would vote for me, based on my own anecdotal feedback. Not vote for me because I'm black but because of my policies."

Cain also weighed in on the recent chatter surrounding Chris Christie, saying the recent reports the New Jersey governor is reconsidering a run for president were hurting the electorate.

"It's not insulting as much as it is a disservice to the American people," Cain said. "Chris Christie has been saying for a long time he's not interested in running. The media is trying to create a story by sucking Chris Christie into race, just like they made a story by sucking Rick Perry into the race."

Cain said the media should focus on the candidates who have already declared their candidacy to give voters a better idea of the field.

Watch The Situation Room with Wolf Blitzer weekdays at 4pm to 6pm ET and Saturdays at 6pm ET. For the latest from The Situation Room click here.

Why would anyone say the black African-American voter, serving notice on the politicians and giving something back to the community in the name of the people, has been hypnotized to speak in cliches and always vote Democrat? Even so, they are no more brainwashed than Latinos, White Ethnic Union Workers, Jews who think they're still backing FDR, and mostly delusional women.

I have seen ZB and others post this more than once, "the republican party is the party of the old south". Where did you go to school? Republicans had to hide fact they were republicans in the old south to keep from getting lynched with black folks by democrats in white sheets. Democrats have always been the racists. Republicans were responsible for passing the civil rights legislation, they wee the freedom riders not democrats. Abraham Lincoln was a REPUBLICAN for goodness skes. Y'all are making Cain's point that y"all are brainwashed, you don't even know or want admit to knowing the truth about American political history. Please learn and educate yourself before making yourself out to be ignorant of the facts.

And Mr Cain would know a lot about people who aren't open minded – right?

Actually, the only one who has been brainwashed in Herman Cain. He made a bit of money and actually seems to think that Americans will actually elect him president. That's very effective brainwashing. He needs to go watch the old Frank Sinatra movie called The Manchurian Candidate. It was a lousy movie, but it describes Herman precisely.

If there is no truth to Mr Cain's statement, then why are african- americans getting so defensive?

No Obama won because he is black. African Americans seen a black man running and went crazy.

And the GOP saw a black man winning the election and went absolutely bugnuts INSANE.

Birthers, death panels, commie-socialist-muslim-terrorist-antichrist rhetoric, admitting repeatedly on live TV and debates that making sure Obama gets only one term is more important than not crashing the economy, voting in lockstep against anything he proposes even if it's a near copy of something originally proposed by a Republican and then complaining that he needs to be more bipartisan...

Reality and the GOP are not on speaking terms anymore.

Mr. Cain is the reason why the DEMOCRATIC PARTY, enacted the "Jim Crowe Laws" in the south after losing the American Civil War.

Remember, it was a Republican President -Abraham Lincoln- and the Republican Party who freed the south from slavery.

DEMOCRATS have always been AFRAID of independent, free thinking, hard working & patriotic minorities!!!

Amazing to see how much racist rhetoric you hear from the right and you still have a guy like Cain defending their party. There were slave overseers in the time of slavery and I view Cain in much the same light. Unemployment numbers in the black community are staggering, especially concerning black men. Everybody is concerned with the poor receiving handouts but, do you ever consider what the wealthiest Americans in society actually contribute? Why does being a celebrity or a socialite mean so much compared to being a teacher or a police officer? Economics is supposed to represent an individual's contribution to society as a whole. America is in decline because we have all valued the wrong things for far too long.

Only a Black republican can get away with calling black people brainwashed.
What a better way for the Klan to get their message across than to have a black puppet.

Cain must be right as it seems to have hit a nerve with the moronic progressives here as they all sound brain washed with the same MSLSD talking points.

Cain is exactly right. Blacks have been duped and brainwashed by the Democrats. They have destroyed black communities by pushing welfare as a lifestyle instead of the temporary help it was meant to be. Their economic policies kill jobs, and keep black unemployed. It's about time that black people wake up and realize that Democrats are INTENTIONALLY keeping the black community down. They know that as long as they keep black dependent upon government handouts, they will keep voting for them.

Cain, as well as every GOP candidate, should be an expert in brainwashing. The GOP has been successfully brainwashing common, every day middle-class folk to vote against their interests by electing thugs, crooks, religious crack pots, and corporate goons to office. I mean why would anyone want dirty, unsafe water and air? Why would they want schools that have no money for good teachers? Why would they want good paying manufacturing jobs to be sent overseas? Why would they want their wages to decrease while CEOs are making record incomes? Why would they want any of these things? Yet the GOP is successful in brainwashing a large number of voters to side with their pro-corporate, anti-environmental, hateful agenda towards minorities. And Mr. Cain, you are the worst kind of GOP candidate. One who sells out for cash. Shame on you. There's a special Hell waiting just for you my brother.

Mr Cain is a very smart person. Way I see it, he has not hidden his lifetime records, has not pasted a birth certificate, has hidden his life with lawyers and help from big time chicago pols and national dems, media, and hollywood, financials, print, and liberals of both coasts.
Just goes to show you a true American black does more truth telling and shows more common sense than a unknown, gentleman from nowhere

This is too ironic for words - commenters here saying the republicans were against the civil rights act??!! I would laugh if the truth were not so horrifically different. Talk about brainwash.
