Washington (CNN) - The one African-American running for the GOP presidential nomination said Wednesday the black community was 'brainwashed' for traditionally siding with liberal politicians.
"African-Americans have been brainwashed into not being open minded, not even considering a conservative point of view," Godfather's Pizza executive Herman Cain said on CNN's "The Situation Room" in an interview airing Wednesday between 5-7 p.m. ET. "I have received some of that same vitriol simply because I am running for the Republican nomination as a conservative. So it's just brainwashing and people not being open minded, pure and simple."
Cain went on to explain that his interactions with African Americans led him to be optimistic about his own chances with the demographic.
"This whole notion that all African-Americans are not going to vote for Obama is not necessarily true," Cain said.
He continued, "I believe a third [of African-Americans] would vote for me, based on my own anecdotal feedback. Not vote for me because I'm black but because of my policies."
Cain also weighed in on the recent chatter surrounding Chris Christie, saying the recent reports the New Jersey governor is reconsidering a run for president were hurting the electorate.
"It's not insulting as much as it is a disservice to the American people," Cain said. "Chris Christie has been saying for a long time he's not interested in running. The media is trying to create a story by sucking Chris Christie into race, just like they made a story by sucking Rick Perry into the race."
Cain said the media should focus on the candidates who have already declared their candidacy to give voters a better idea of the field.

Mr. Cain could be the spokesperson for Oreo cookies.............
Wow...It is interesting that Cain has taken ALL credit away from African Americans. Have you considered sir that African Americans vote (typically democratic) because that is the party that holds true to their (African Americans) core beliefs? People won't vote for you Cain because we don't believe in you. African Americans vote for the person that speaks to the country as a whole and then specifically to them. You should consider not calling them (African Americans) stupid and find out what appeals to the African American voter, because you clearly have no idea.
I meant "Uncle Ruckus" from "The Boondocks".
If you vote for Cain and he wins he will implement Plan 999....I am thinking that is eerily similiar to Order 66 given by Emperor Palpatine in Revenge of the Sith in which the Jedi were nearly wiped out. Now...either Plan 999 is for a similair process or he is offer any large 1 topping pizza for $9.99.....buahahahahahahaha
Cain is a straight shooter. He wants you to work. Sorry it offends the dumbocraps and minorites. I got to get back to work. I don't have time to fool with DOM Mama for obummie. Rudy, NYC, a kicing donkey and weird paddle,SF. Have a good day
I think that anyone earning under $250,000 a year who supports the GOP is brainwashed.
Not a wise move, if he actually hopes to convince people with this.
If we ignore, for a moment, everything else about his message, or what side he's on, or any of that, the fact is that trying to convince people to join your cause by insulting them, or using words which they will react to defensively, is a TERRIBLE approach. That's just preaching to the choir. You don't gain potential allies by insulting them.
Problem is, few politicians seem to understand how to communicate their message in ways which actually seek to convince others. They just preach to their bases, and convince themselves that they're right, but there is little visible effort in understanding and empathizing with the opposition's point of view, which is a key to getting others to actually listen. This is greatly because most politicians seems to believe that understanding and empathizing is agreeing, or caving in, which of course is a sign of weakness.
The real weakness in politics is that few of these people actually know how to communicate and relate to each other effectively.
I would like Mr. Cain to list conservative policies – not talking points – which have actaully bettered the interests of the black community.
HERMAN, u are a complete idiot. You are just like the house N--, stating "BOSS, I'LL HOLD THOSE N-–, FEET WHILE YOU LYNCH THEM. How in the hell can u say we are brainwashed because we voted for Obama. Blacks have voted for white men in every election. Of Course we now have found out Obama can lie almost as well as any white man except the RIGHT WING TEA BAGGIN REDNECK RACIST REPUBLICANS AND YOU, THEIR BLACK FLUNKY. WE HAVE NO CHOICE , WE WILL VOTE FOR OBAMA AGAIN 2012
Insult an ENTIRE segment of your voting population. Smart move Cain!
So....Cain is a contrarian?
The majority of Americans voted for Obama because he was the best choice for the American people – and we will again. And the Repubs will toss Cain away when they are done with him – as they always do – unless you are a multi-national corporation.
BTW holding the "=" sign doesn't make moronic fox blabber sound inteliigent.
he's right.those of you who say gop is for corporations and the dems are for the little people are fools.blacks have consistently followed the dems for decades.and have the poorest levels of income and education.the father in the black family has been replaced by a welfare check.gee, that's all worked out well hasn't it.minorities have been taught they need special treatment a.k.a affirmitave action.it's all been a lie and although we all pay for it,the sheep are getting the worst of it.but i don't see any big change coming.leftists are trained to hate and act on emotion.lying is a badge of honor.that's why i think the republic is finished.communists, socialists, anarchists, radical muslims, black panthers and the democratic party are all allies in a war on conservatives, christian or otherwise.a progressive is evil.
Pizza here yet???? How unpatriotic and disloyal, some people would sell their own pizza....er I mean mother for a little press time....how could ANYONE not see....the puppeteers holding the leash/strings of the Republican party are the wealthy few!!!!
If anyone is brainwashed its any African-American who thinks voting for the GOP is a vote that will benefit them in any way. They want to take away all of the security the gov't has provided since the New Deal and Great Society..this is NOT in the interest of the Black community especially since many are living in poverty. GOP needs to be pushing ideas that advance the less fortunate and educate the un-educated so that their agenda is actually necesssary further down the road NOT NOW
Hey! I just heard from the Tea Party that all Black People are racists. They are the experts after all.
What he says about race cuts both ways. Some blacks will only vote for blacks. Some whites will only vote for whites. Same for Hispanics and Asians. His point about blacks being brainwashed as a whole is ignorant and condescending. Most blacks side with the Democrats because of shared beliefs. Also, the Democratic party is willing to promote and back minority candidates. When you look at the GOP/Tea Party you see what?? A party that promotes white people. There is no diversity there. Blacks aren't brainwashed. If the GOP showed an interest in diversity then you would see more people of color involved with them. Until then...they will still with the party that aligns with their interests.
Look Mr. 999, just because I totally disagree with your politics, does not mean I'm brainwashed.
How dare you insinuate that we in the African American community are incapable of listening to all of you political morans and decide who and/or what we agree with unless we are brainwashed. Your condescending remarks is exactly why I would never vote for you. You are the one whose brainwashed if you think you would ever get a third of any community votes. Black, White, Red or yellow.
i forgot about the health care bill.compassion?no sheep, just another attempt to control the masses.wake up before there is civil war.
How quickly the people forget that the Democratic party of the early-mid 20th century were the ones in favor of racial segregation. It was only when the voter base was expanded, due to the Civil Rights movement that they changed to become the party of the 'little man'.
When will people wake up and realize that NEITHER party cares about them? The Republicans are all about the wealthy, and the Democrats are all about controlling the people through Socialism.
Democrats are no different than Republicans. Name one non-wealthy Democrat in office. Name one who doesn't take money from lobbyists to push an agenda. Name one who doesn't broker back-office deals that pad their own pockets.
You can't, however, you've been fooled into believing they care for you.
It's absolutely hilarious that African Americans don't realize their own BLATANT racism because they vote for a candidate just becuase they are black. At least the white man is able to think independently and vote for a half black Presidential candidate. Pretty funny stuff. It's so weird that black people rarely vote for a white candidate.
I guess no blacks have ever voted for presidents before Obama. They have all been white up till now.
Wait a minute. Herman Cain is in the republican presidential field and thinks he has a shot at winning the nomination, but all the other "blacks" are brainwashed??? Bless his heart. He has about as much chance as Ron Paul or Michelle Bachmann of getting the nomination.
Having grown up in Winchester, Virginia in the 1980's, I can tell you that EVERY last person I heard use the "N" word voted republican. And like a poster before said, republicans have voted against every piece of civil rights legislation in the past 50 years. I'd love him to explain himself to someone with more than a half an ounce of sense. Someone like Jon Stewart would rip him to shreds.
Man this guy is just in this race for the money. He has about a -750% chance of getting any white republican vote. -1000% of getting any black vote outside of his circle. This is why the news do not cover your nut job stories. This would be like Palin getting her own talk show. I mean I am black and i liked George Bush I like McCain, and Bill Clinton (probably one of the best presidents in the last 20yrs. If you do not include the deep throat issue). Tea-Party would send all blacks back to Africa if they get there way. Who paid Cain $50.00 to assimilate so fast?
Blacks in general don't vote republican because republicans in general do not make an effort to garner the black vote. Funny thing is I had a government related issue (school loans) and contacted all of my local congressional leaders for assistance with clarification, and the only respone was from Jon Cornyn, a republican. He got my vote on the next election cycle. Republicans need to visit black communities (the churches) and have a real conversation. When they make blanket statements like Mr. Cain here, its like a fat chick at a pool party, complete turn off.
