Giuliani still flirting with 2012 bid

Manchester, New Hampshire (CNN) - A top adviser to Rudy Giuliani visited New Hampshire for meetings with state officials Wednesday, signaling the former New York mayor is still flirting with a presidential run, confirmed a source close to the former mayor.

Top adviser Jake Menges was in the state today meeting with supporters and potential staffers and asking some friends to keep their powder dry until Giuliani makes a decision, the source said.

In a Sept. 7 interview, Giuliani told CNN's Piers Morgan, "If Barack Obama remained roughly where he is now, sure I think I could beat him."

Earlier that week at the National Press Club in Washington, Giuliani told the audience he would only run again if the GOP became "desperate."

After failing to gain traction in the first-in-the-nation primary state in 2007, Giuliani bypassed New Hampshire to concentrate on Florida. In his most recent visit to the state this summer, the popular mayor signaled he would focus more energy in the New England state were he to run this cycle.

The adviser's visit was first reported by WMUR.

–CNN Deputy Political Director Paul Steinhauser contributed to this report.

Oh, good. Rudy Giuliani 9-11 wants to 9-11 run again. I 9-11 wonder what 9-11 his campaign 9-11 will 9-11 be?

Oh, please. Along with Trump and Palin, these threats to run for president are just pathetic calls for attention (and higher speaking fees in Palin's case). If unemployment climbed to 25% and it turned out President Obama actually is the antichrist (like the nutcases are now saying), I would still vote for Obama over Giuliani.

It's the other way around. Rudy taught Christie how it's done–and he did it in the most liberal city in America with a budget bigger than most states and a bigger population than most states. He introduced workfare, cut taxes, sold off public properties, consolidated agencies, fired deadwood bureaucrats, and put the city in the black for the first time in decades–all before 9/11. He also revolutionized crime-fighting, shut down the porn shops, and made NY family-friendly again. Before that he cleaned up Wall Street and sent the heads of the five Mafia families to prison for long terms. They called all that a miracle–and it was. And we need another miracle–this time on the federal level.

The term flirting probably refers to everybody and every gender if he follows his past perfomances.

  22. Hmmmm

The only reason Rudy would enter the race would be as a favor to Perry, with expectation Rudy would take votes from Romney, and thus boost Perry's chances. Giuliani knows he couldn't win, but Perry backed Giuliani in 2008, and Rudy would be looking for employment in a Perry cabinet.

No Rudy 2012: Cain's more exciting w/business background and less political baggage. Rudy had his chance in 08 and lost it. We need a strong conservative with principles, not Rudy. He's been quite good, but this year we want and need the very best to not just turn around, but root out the tentacles of Ozero's appointments and policies.
