
Tripoli, Libya (CNN) - In his first visit to Libya since the fall of Moammar Gadhafi, Sen. John McCain hailed that nation's revolution as the showcase for the so-called Arab Spring but acknowledged a tough road lay ahead.

Washington (CNN) – Amid a potential primary calendar shake-up, GOP chairs of the first four voting states –Iowa, New Hampshire, Nevada and South Carolina– said Thursday they would do whatever it takes to hold onto their early voting status in 2012.
"The four sanctioned, early states have been very clear that we will move together, if necessary, to ensure order as outlined in RNC rules," said Iowa GOP chairman Matt Strawn in a joint statement. "If we are forced to change our dates together, we will."
(CNN) - A short-term spending measure to fund the federal government into next week won approval Thursday from the U.S. House and now goes to President Barack Obama's desk.
The measure was part of a bipartisan agreement intended to end a dispute over disaster relief spending that threatened to cause a partial shutdown of the government when the current fiscal year ends at midnight Friday.

(CNN) - A decision on the final date for the South Carolina GOP presidential primary will be delayed until the state of Florida announces whether it will break from the Republican Party and schedule it's primary on January 31, 2012.
In a Thursday announcement, state officials pledged to keep their status as the first southern state to vote in the primary and caucus calendar.
(CNN) - The state of Georgia will hold its GOP presidential primary March 6, 2012 on Super Tuesday. The decision keeps the original date of the state's primary intact.
