McDonnell open to V.P. slot

(CNN) - Virginia Gov. Bob McDonnell on Sunday did not rule out serving in the No. 2 spot on the Republican ticket in 2012.

Although McDonnell, who currently serves as chairman of the Republican Governors Association, said the pick will be "somebody else's decision" and is still months away, he left the door open.

"If somebody called and said you could help your country, help your ticket, I think any of us would think about it," McDonnell said on NBC's "Meet the Press."

Cain: I would give 'Hail to the Chief' a fresher sound

(CNN) – Is the presidency in need of some musical rebranding? According to GOP presidential candidate Herman Cain, a less traditional marching beat may be in order.

On Sunday, Cain told Fox News' Chris Wallace that the traditional marching song "Hail to the Chief" - usually played when the president arrives at formal appearances - could use some updating.

Cain: Christie’s too liberal

(CNN) - While the chatter surrounding a potential Chris Christie presidential bid increases, one current contender said Sunday the New Jersey governor is too liberal to win the GOP nomination.

Former Godfather’s Pizza CEO Herman Cain said Christie’s past positions on civil unions for same sex couples, illegal immigration and global warming would be liabilities among conservative Republican voters.

Cheney: Obama owes apology for security criticism of Bush administration

Washington (CNN) - Former Vice President Dick Cheney praised the Obama administration Sunday for using a drone strike to kill American-born Muslim cleric Anwar al-Awlaki, but said President Barack Obama should now apologize for criticizing former President George W. Bush's actions against suspected terrorists.

Al-Awlaki - an American whose fluency in English and technology made him one of the top terrorist recruiters in the world - was killed Friday in Yemen, according to U.S. and Yemeni government officials.

McCain cautions Christie

(CNN) - Republican Sen. John McCain issued a warning Sunday about presidential politics to New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, who is reportedly considering entering the GOP presidential nominating contest.

Although the 2008 GOP presidential nominee praised the first-term governor’s record in the Garden State, he also said the potential late entry would put Christie at a political disadvantage.

Cheney backs end of 'don't ask, don't tell' policy

Washington (CNN) - Former Vice President Dick Cheney said Sunday he supports the Obama administration's decision to repeal the "don't ask, don't tell" policy banning gays and lesbians from serving openly in the military - a move that was staunchly opposed by most top Republicans.

"I think the decision that's been made with respect to allowing gays to serve openly in the military is a good one" Cheney told CNN's Candy Crowley on "State of the Union." "It's the right thing to do."
