(CNN) - Don't compare President Barack Obama to Captain James T. Kirk.
That's what William Shatner told CNN's Ali Velshi when asked to respond to suggestions that Obama should act less like "Spock" and more like "Captain Kirk".
Shatner said the comparisons are "unfair" because "Mr. Obama has the onerous burden of obeying the constitution [and] Captain Kirk was captain of everybody's fate. He was a dictator".
The 80 year-old cultural icon, who famously played Captain Kirk in the Star Trek television series and feature films, is out with a new book, "Shatner Rules," in which he talks about his acting career that has spanned more than four decades.
So what are the "Shatner Rules" for any presidential candidate hoping to stay in the race until the very end?
"Spend less money on the campaign and more for the people. Give some of the money to the people who need it," Shatner said in the interview set to air Friday on CNN's "American Morning."
Although he cannot vote in the 2012 election because he is Canadian, Shatner sent a warning to any candidate intent on winning the race for the White House.
"This country is being torn apart by people with great passion who believe in their point of view and to disparage that point of view is to lose the argument," he said. "We are approaching a crisis where people see not just the necessity, but the Armageddon of not cooperating. Hopefully the people we elect will see it as well."

I though Obama was a little more like Pinocchio. I'd be happy if he acted like Spock. At least there would be logic behind his actions instead of lies and deceit..
He makes a good point. Too bad the right wing will personify his warning by eviscerating the man's reputation. After all, that is on of their prime directives. Demonize any who disagree with you as enemies of the state.

Obama has sure been acting like a dictator.
Let's face the truth. The only difference between the Democrats, and Communism, is that the Democrats favor a modified dictatorship, rather than a totalitarian dictatorship. That's it. Wealth and power, control and run everything, and the rest of the population get hand outs from the government. That's what the Democrats really stand for.
The founding fathers of this country, were Republicans. We have lost sight of that truth. While they were wealthy and powerful, they believed every man should have opportunity, and should reap the rewards of his own efforts. They didn't believe that the government should dole out welfare.

Shatner is correct that politicians are ruled lately more by ideology than from a real desire to work for the country and state. And when I say "politicians" I am being polite as I am really saying the republicans who have lost the ability to compromise and work across the aisle.

Ya' know. I just realized that the Tea Party reminds me of the Romulans. Set in their beliefs. Wish to impose their vision of life on the entire universe. They like guns. They cannot be trusted to do the right the right thing, but can be trusted to commit the selfish act. Finally, the Romulans answered to, and pledged allegiance to a Supreme Emperor. Anyone who did not make the oath, or broke their oath, was subject to destruction.
Like the original Star Trek that lasted 3 years (debuted in 1966 and ran for three seasons), Obama lasted 3 years and will be cancelled in 2012.
It's a shame the American people weren’t as smart rejecting Obama in 2008, as NBC was with the Star Trek pilot, NBC rejected an initial pilot.

So many partisan hacks. The left is just as against compromise as the right is. Both parties have become a cancer on this nation. Our elected "leaders" are millionaires and lawyers, yet some are foolish enough to believe that they will actually work for the country instead of their own interests. The fact is that the left and right work together all of time; too bad it is just to screw us over.

NBC made a mistake when they cancelled the show because they underestimated the amount of popularity and support the show had with the American people. NBC had put too much faith in polls that counted television sets instead of viewers in front of those television sets.
Shatner's Armageddon Warning to Elected Officials to Serve and Not Be Served is dead on target. It is time to aim at the target of responsibility and quit shooting ourselves in the foot. It is starting to hurt big time.

How can someone make a post about what the forefathers intended when they clearly do NOT understand what they were all about. They ended up falling into two camps, the first two political parties. And one of those parties, the democratic-republicans, believed that the 'people' should hold the power along with the states. The other party, the federalists, believed that the 'common' man was not intelligent enough to even vote much less have any 'power'...and this party included many of our forefathers. Get your facts straight.

At least in the Republican model there IS WEALTH and opportunity for all to achieve it. In the Democrat model, there is only destruction of wealth by TAKING through taxation from those who work, to "share" with those who won't work. Government welfare does not lift anybody up, it creates government dependents that demand more and more. Look to Greece for proof, and here as well.

Greece is going broke because the rich paid NO taxes, not just loopholes and credits.......NONE whatsoever!.
Now regarding government welfare.......your completely right, yet YOUR party voted against giving it to Oil companies with record breaking profits, I wonder how much welfare the Koch's get?
