Washington (CNN) - President Barack Obama sent a tough message to Republicans on Thursday, ahead of an expected Senate battle over his $447 billion jobs bill.
"As we look towards next week, any senator out there who's thinking about voting against this jobs bill when it comes up for a vote needs to explain exactly why they would oppose something that we know would improve our economic situation at such an urgent time for our families and for our businesses," Obama said at a news conference.

In 2010, the GOP ran on JOBS, JOBS, JOBS, and more JOBS. Can someone tell me what they have done in that regard in the 9 months since taking control of the House? Was this a monsterous lie? Are they actually clueless of what to do about the economy? Do they just want to impede the President from doing anything about it and then blame him when things don't get better. I hope the majority of the public are not fooled by their tactics. Opinion polls seem to support that view, but will it materialize at the polls. We need to reelect the President and put people in cogress (GOP or Dems) who will work cooperatively with the President to move America forward to a better future.
The wealthy will never give up a penny why because they control congress and they run the country. Obama,s plan sounds good, but it will never happen.big corporations and the wealthy say if you raise my taxes we will not hire . hey wake up these jerks are not hiring anyway..the moto is im keeping mine and screw you
The problem of unemployment in the world is not necessarily due to the policy of the Government of the day but a hangover of continues intention of the private companys to maximize profit at all cost. Furthermore, the lack of entrepreneurial spirit in the youths is a serious problem. Only God can change things for the better.
There should be a surtax on all politicians (including the president and congress) and their benefits cut as well as their pensions eliminated. If we are serious about debt reduction let's start at the source-the individuals that ran this country into $14.8 trillion dollars of debt!
how about less talk or blame.... and more jobs and working for the people...401 k stink .. 9% jobless rate... yea less talk..
Oh, I guess now he has pushed some Democrats to vote for this bill, Reid was the hold up, didn't have the votes.
Congress shows their true colors here. They must debate and vote – putting their actual names on the votes and show America whether or not they want to create jobs or simply make political statements. If they fail here we need to recall the whole bunch.
