Tea Party Express chair accuses president of class warfare

(CNN) - Tea Party Express Chairman Amy Kremer slammed President Obama Thursday for "playing class warfare" with the "millionaire's surtax."

The new tax on those with income over a million dollars a year was introduced by Senate Democrats to pay for the president's American Jobs Act. The President endorsed the measure at his Thursday news conference.

"There are a number of people that have signed these pledges that they're not going to raise taxes and they have no hope of getting it through," Kremer said on CNN's Newsroom.

She described the push as another stimulus that won't work and a way to "blame Republicans."

Instead, Kremer suggested cutting the corporate tax so that businesses can "start to have confidence in the system and go forward and hire people."

And when it comes to compromise, the tea party leader pushed back at the president's claim that the GOP has been reluctant to bargain.

"Republicans have put plan after plan out there and the Democrats say no," she asserted, citing "Cut, Cap and Balance," and House Budget Chair Paul Ryan's plan to overhaul entitlements as evidence.

"It is not Washington's responsibility to create jobs; it's the private sector's responsibility to create jobs, that's where the jobs come from," Kremer said.

Looking ahead to 2012, she named businessman Herman Cain as "the one to watch," though Kremer balked at giving him an out-and-out endorsement.

Her stamp of approval would give any GOP candidate a boost among the sought-after tea party vote.

"Herman Cain is doing a major thing right now," she said. "He's got a lot of momentum, a lot of people like him, he's a straight talker, he's a businessman and that's what people like."

But she also hedged her praise of the conservative radio talk show host who's been rising in national polls.

"I think that the field is still very volatile," Kremer said.

After World War II, the top tax rate was 90%!!! And it *worked*: the USA was able to pay down the largest debt in history, and built the best economy in the world.

Now we are fighting two wars, each of which lasting twice as long as WWII, but asking the wealthy to pay 39% is "Class Warfare"

    Give me a break!

I have no sympathy for the rich in this country. They are lazy, wanting only to make easy money by abandoning our country for cheap labor overseas, regardless of the consequences to the country that has given them so much.

Instead of complaining about having to pay their fair share, how about these rich corporations and individuals actually DO something to help our country? Gas and oil are finite; why not invest in research and development of alternative, sustainable energy sources? Corner that market, and you'll be in gravy for the rest of your life! Bring jobs back here to America – SHOW your patriotism and not just pay lip service to it. Invest in the future and give a rat's behind about someone besides yourself.

The Greatest Generation put a man on the moon, developed thousands of new products, contributed to 40 years of economic growth. What has the Me Generation done? If you rich guys are all such hot stuff, then PROVE IT. Make your parents not regret the sacrifices they made for our country and for you.

If making the rich pay their fair share is class warfare then I say lets bring it... let the battle start right here, right now!! I am tired of seeing the rich get richer and the rest of us having our standard of living eroded over the year.

    Whose with me!!

Fox news bashing Wall street demonstration as "brutal", "without any sense", not like "nice Tea Party".
People like this woman are destroying America.

I would bet we could reduce much of the deficit if Kremer just stopped eating for a day!

The TEA Party has only one way – their way. The rest of the country may disagree but that is just too bad. Why do we allow these people to dictate to us? We need to stand up and be counted as those who know there will be some saving and spending to get this country moving. Cutting all those taxes will just put us deeper into debt. Those in the middle class will be hurt the most.

I wonder how long it will take for the average teapartier to figure out that they're being used. The things they stand for today aren't the issues that started the teaparty movement. As a matter of fact, there wasn't a thing called the Tea Party Express until it was created with Koch money. Sooner or later they'll wake up.

Ms. Amy Kremer your tea party calls having millionaires paying taxes a class welfare. What do you call wha't been happening to the middle class?. Just like American jobs, we are loosing middle class people every day in this country to unemployment. Who is to blame? George Bush, Dick Cheney and the Republican party for their philosophy that rich people are the jobs creators. If that's true, why we have a 9.0% unemployment in this country. If they're the jobs creators, they're creating the jobs in India and China, not here.

Maybe the tea party has some good points, like we should probably address the $14,800,000,000,000 of debt?

The Tea Party must be the only "grassroots" movement in the history of mankind that wants to fight for the rich, the powerful, the already very well-connected. It kind of makes you shake your head in disbelief.

Wouldn't cutting corporate taxes just increase their profits? They've had record profits for the past three years, yet there are no jobs! How much is enough?!

What a bunch of upside-down and mixed-up statements. The tea party don't know what they want but checks in the mail. They don't appear to know who they're defending and for what reasons. I don't think they know what's going on.
