Santorum takes aim at Cain, introduces '0-0-0 plan'

Washington (CNN) – As part of his speech to the Values Voter Summit Friday, presidential contender Rick Santorum introduced his “0-0-0” plan, a swipe at Herman Cain’s highly publicized “9-9-9” tax reform plan.

After laying out why he is a strong social conservative, Santorum directed his focus on Cain.

"I know there's a plan out there that's the 9-9-9 plan. I got a better plan. It's the 0-0-0 plan," Santorum said to a round of laughs.

"Zero corporate income tax on any manufacturer processor in this country… Zero corporate tax on all of that money brought back if invested in plant and equipment in this country… And zero – we will zero out and repeal every single regulation the Obama administration has put in place that is 100 million dollars in business or more,” said Santorum, a former Republican Senator from Pennsylvania.

Cain has dubbed his plan as a bold attempt to replace the existing tax code and replace it with a nine percent tax on corporate income, a nine percent tax on personal income and a nine percent national sales tax.

Santorum said his plan would boost the middle class and manufacturing, area of the economy that Santorum said used to be strong.

“Twenty-one percent of the people working in this country when I was growing up were involved in manufacturing,” Santorum said. “Now it's 9. We need to get those jobs back.”

By going after Cain, Santorum is punching up at the former Godfather’s Pizza CEO. Cain, with 17%, finds himself in second place in the race for the GOP nomination. Santorum, on the other hand, polls near the bottom of the field at 3%.

Has it occurred to anyone that the 9-9-9 is the devil's number from Revelations?

Yay! 0 taxes! Let's return to a feudal society where the rich Kings and Queens and Dukes and Duchesses sat in their castles while the poor tilled the fields! There was a reason why the monarchy system died out a long time ago.

Rick Santorum is spot-on! We need to get Big Govenment out of corporate boardrooms and back into private bedrooms where it belongs! The government should not regulate anything (except family planning and who you're allowed to marry).

These guys are now positioning themselves for the VP nomination – assuming that the ultimate flip-flopper Romney has the nomimation wrapped up. The GOP is really, really broken.

O-O-O? I thought "oh oh oh" was an exclamation reserved for when you're offending Captain Frothy's tender sensibilities by sinning in the privacy of your own bedroom....

Santorum's idiocy may just appeal to those who are brain dead. Even Herb's 9-9-9 plan will bankrupt America, but it will save billionaires a lot of money, and of course, place more burden on the middle class and the poor.

Joke of the day: There were two republicans talking about how to help the middle class.

I laughed so hard, I had tears in my eyes.

Hard to believe that Santorum still has 3% support. Of course with the lousy candidates the GOP has running, Santorum is still in the race.

  17. You do realize...

That without taxes especially on corporations our countries debt which has been the crux of your "we shouldn't leave this massive debt to our children" debate will rise significantly right. Oh and by the way what about the average U.S. citizen why not lower their tax rate to 0 while you are at it. Corporations really need those tax cuts when they are making record profits and the average American is making less and less every year. You and your running mates make me sick always putting corporate profits above the gains of the people. I hope you enjoy that 20% of the vote in 2012.

The republican debate goes something like: "I'll do a better job helping the 1% than you ever could."

"Oh yeah, well I am a one percenter, and I know what I need to make my life better."

Santorum is an idiot. His GOP cronies are the ones that broke up companies, laid off workers, outsourced jobs and basically destroyed American manufacturing, all in their pursuit of the almighty Buck.

He's also naive if he thinks that getting rid of regulation based on its cost is a good thing; it's cheaper to sell cars made out of tinfoil than steel, so by Santorum's thinking we should allow that ...

It makes me want to vote republican in the primary just to make sure Cain is the nominee. ha ha ha ha ha ha ha

(I'm an independent, so can change to whichever I want).

No taxes, and no regulations. Didn't W already try that map? Results were (and still are) less than stellar...
