(CNN) -– House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi said Sunday that comments made by Massachusetts Sen. Scott Brown about a Democratic rival showed a “disrespect for women.”
Brown made the remarks Thursday, when asked about candidate Elizabeth Warren’s statement that she had “kept her clothes on” while paying for college. Warren was making reference to a nearly nude 1982 Cosmopolitan magazine photo shoot that Brown did to earn money at age 22.
When asked about the comment during a radio interview with WZLX in Boston, Brown said only, "Thank God.”
Pelosi said Sunday on the ABC program “This Week” that the comment was disrespectful.
“The response you just gave, 'Thank God,' really, I thought spoke volumes about how clueless Senator Brown is,” Pelosi said. “It really spoke volumes about, really, disrespect for women that he may not even realize. I bet you he'd like to take that comment back.”
Pelosi acknowledged that the comment was likely meant to be a joke, but maintained that it was still revealing of Brown’s character.
“I hope it's joke-y. And if it is, then hopefully he will take that comment back. But women know. They hear a comment like that, it tells you a lot about somebody,” Pelosi said.

Warren didn't bring it up. A republican panelist at the debate Tuesday said "Senator Brown posed in magazines to help pay for college. How did you pay for college?
More important, however, is that after that comment Brown went on to say how he didn't go to Harvard (umm...Tufts and BC are nothing to sneeze at, and they are both private colleges) and painted Warren as a Harvard elitist.
Too bad Brown didn't do his research. Warren went to public college, public law school and her dad was a janitor.
Typical Brown, not knowing facts, insulting people and then playing victim.
Why is it disrespectful to women? Truth is the truth. Some women need to leave their clothes on. Samething for men.
Come one Pelosi. Don't over dramatize the issue. Warren took a shot and she got a retort. If her feelings are hurt then she should either stay out of politics or don't take cheap shots.
I am no fan of the current Republican party and the extremism that has it's grasp on it. If Sen. Brown didn't break the law to make money for school ....who cares. Elizabeth wanted to make a dig at Sen. Brown and he made on right back. Nothing more nothing less.
Bet the women voters in Mass will make the decision.
So Warren's not-so-subtle dig at Brown about his photo sessions in college are not disrespectful but Brown's joke is? Are Democrats making hypocrisy a way of life?
So she takes a swat at him and he takes a swipe back...and he's the bad guy? She made the low blow. If you can't take the heat, don't play the game.
Why does the truth hurt...he did it...She didn't to complete school just MAN UP.
Can you imagine the outrage from these Tea Party kooks if a woman had taken off her clothes to pay for college? These right-wingnuts would be screaming that she's a trollop who isn't fit for office. But if a conservative man does it, they wink and chuckle and let it pass. Hypocrites.
Cheap shots = 2, actual issues = 0
And warren's comments were peachy keen. Sorry Elizzie...not all of us would sell our souls to curry favor with half-wit profs. That you believe that someone who actually paid their way, without selling their intellectual integrity, is inferior to a sell-out, says more about you than them.
Whine, whine, whine: can't we all just get along?
I value men and women, but I don't understand the big "woman vs. man" thing going on here. They're kind of both necessary here. So I don't see why a comment isn't just looked at as plain rude. That alone seems like kind of enough of a reason not to say it. The rest is just another political move to divide the two genders.
Why is a non-story like this even in the "news"? This isn't news. It must be a really, really slow day.
Pelosi is just off base here. She needs to keep her mouth shut. Every time she opens it she says something that makes no sense. When will she every leave????
Nancy, you are just jealous because nobody ever looked at you twice.
Brown is just a happy-face GOP puppet.
Warren is the only one who can stand up to Wall Street and bring about much needed reforms in this country.
.
even listen to her anymore? Whoops, that was disrespectful.
yuk yuk yuk... direspect for women? Clueless Karenne, move to Canada you commie...
Is she serious? Nancy Pelosi's vitriol towards those who disagree with her is legendary. And what Brown said was not disrespectful towards women. Seriously, some people can find offense anywhere. All he said was thank God she did not take her clothes off. You could say the same thing about me. It was not directed towards all women, but towards this one. Get over it folks.
Geez, with everything is going to hell in this country, can we at least maintain some semblance of a sense of humor?!?! He only said two words and they were pretty funny.
Dan J: If a man can't take care of himself, how can he take care of a country? He is a heart attack in the making and running for president is a commitment, not just for him, but for the whole country.
Pelosi is grasping at straws, I'm a woman and I don't see anything wrong with the Brown comment, he was being honest...
Just another reason to believe that you dont have to be mentally challenged to be a republican, but it does explain many things about the republican party.
I don't think he was being particularly disrespectful, nor was she. She fired a humorous shot. He fired back. Back when I was a kid, they called it doing the dozens. If neither of them were offended, I don't see the need for anyone else to be offended on their behalf.
