Pelosi says senator's comment 'disrespectful to women'

(CNN) -– House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi said Sunday that comments made by Massachusetts Sen. Scott Brown about a Democratic rival showed a “disrespect for women.”

Brown made the remarks Thursday, when asked about candidate Elizabeth Warren’s statement that she had “kept her clothes on” while paying for college. Warren was making reference to a nearly nude 1982 Cosmopolitan magazine photo shoot that Brown did to earn money at age 22.

When asked about the comment during a radio interview with WZLX in Boston, Brown said only, "Thank God.”

Pelosi said Sunday on the ABC program “This Week” that the comment was disrespectful.

“The response you just gave, 'Thank God,' really, I thought spoke volumes about how clueless Senator Brown is,” Pelosi said. “It really spoke volumes about, really, disrespect for women that he may not even realize. I bet you he'd like to take that comment back.”

Pelosi acknowledged that the comment was likely meant to be a joke, but maintained that it was still revealing of Brown’s character.

“I hope it's joke-y. And if it is, then hopefully he will take that comment back. But women know. They hear a comment like that, it tells you a lot about somebody,” Pelosi said.

Nancy and the poor Dems – grasp at any straw to try and win – Elizabeth and Nancy need to put on their big girl panties and stop acting like cry babies – if you can't stand the heat, girls....

Generally, I would agree with Pelosi, but Warren started it with a little bit of a snarky comment that didn't become her. I love her and think she should stick to her issues.

Republicans can say or do ANYTHING and their defenders will be out in droves to defend them. Let us hope the people of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts send Scott Brown packing. He won his seat only because Martha Coakley was the poorest excuse for a candidate imaginable. Elizabeth Warren will trounce the smirking Brown.

I have to give it to Scott. Nice comeback. It's funny. It's an insult, but hey he has a right to insult back.

OK, let's just say for the sake of argument, that Brown had given the exact opposite answer: "I wish she had." Imagine the screetching THAT comment would have caused.

So, like everything else with the Pelosi crowd, there's no way to satisfy them. Unless we start a program to give free gubmint stuff for women who get their feelings hurt.

If you people weren't so busy hearing what you want to hear and not what you do hear, you would have heard Elizabeth Warren answering a question from the audience and NOT commenting on Browns snide remark!!!!! She was asked""How did you pay for your education???" She laughed and said "I kept my clothes on" !!... This guy thinks he is too cute for words anyway, he poses nude..{And he's no Burt Reynolds} and then during the campaign made a big point of the fact that he drove a pick-up truck!!!! Who doesn't??

I don't like what Brown said, however Warren opened the door. She could have just answered the question about how she paid for her education. She could have shown she didn't have a silver spoon in her mouth. Now Brown could have taken the high road and said nothing. I think they were both wrong so they are both even on this score. People need to look at what is said not who said it. The country will never move forward with everybody going to there corners whenever something happens.

And Pelosi weighs in on this? She's never had a respectful word for anybody, ever.

I say Pelosi's comment 'ignorant and politically motivated'.

If Senator Brown was the Democrat, and Elizabeth Brown was the Republican ,Pelosi would never had said a word about disrespect.

Let me first of all disclose I am a Democrat. Now let me say, this is a silly statement by Rep Pelosi. The original statement by Elizabeth Warren implies there was something wrong with what Sen Scott Brown did without ever being specific as to what she thought was wrong. In other words, it was a low tactical response she thought she could get some mileage from. Sen Brown's response to that was about the same level. Rep Pelosi can't legitimately criticise Sen Brown without also being equally critical of Elizabeth Warren.

This whole episode is demonstrative of the general level of political discourse in this nation. And that goes for the original question asked at the debate which Elizabeth Warren gave her original quip. It is sad.

"... spoke volumes about how clueless Senator Brown is,” Pelosi said." Clueless? Pelosi stands alone at the head of the "clueless" line.

So Elizabeth Warren's prepared comment was somehow appropriate, and Scott Brown's quick response was not? For those not in the Massachusetts area, the Warren nomination is being railroaded through the primary process. The national Democrats have no use for democracy.

And the people of Massachusetts have no use for Elizabeth Warren.

Warren was disrespectful to Brown, and Brown was disrespectful back. Equality and respect for women doesn't mean that a man has to take everything a woman dishes out and be silent in response. Pelosi is being extremely insulting to women here by suggesting that we all believe that.

When a person insults you, you have every right to insult them back, no matter what they've got between their legs.

I dont get it. Hopefully the thank god comment is not what she is referring to. If it is that whats wrong with that he said thank god to her saying she wasnt taking her clothes off for money. What did you want him to say to be respectful, "darn, I wish she would have"? That comment would be distespectful. Otherwise all he was saying is that it is a good thing that she didnt.

I believe it was extremely disrespectful for Warren to start the whole thing by trying to belittle a US Senator for his attempt to pay for college. All he did was try to diffuse the situation with a bit of humor. It shows he is fast on his feet and that she is a little person. And Nancy Pelosi is simply vile.

Warren made a stupid comment that had nothing to do with the politics at hand and Brown responded with a similarly non-political comeback.

She shouldn't open her mouth if she does want to risk having someone shove her foot back in it.
