Bachmann dines with Trump, espouses campaign optimism

(CNN) – Republican presidential candidate Michele Bachmann paid a visit to Trump Tower in New York Thursday to meet with real estate mogul Donald Trump.

It was the third such visit for the Minnesota congresswoman, who said she and Trump had a "wonderful breakfast" and agreed to continue a "close relationship."

Obama says he hasn't seen effective GOP jobs plan

(CNN) - President Obama said Thursday he has not seen a Republican jobs plan that independent economists say will "put people back to work."

"I'm hoping that eventually they put forward some proposals that indicate they feel some sense of urgency about the need to put people back to work right now," he said.

House Dems exceed 2011 goal

(CNN) - The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee announced Wednesday they reached their recruitment goal for the year, with 60 Democrats running in open House districts across the country.

The Democratic House fundraising arm launched their "Drive to 25" campaign earlier in the year, pledging to recruit at least 60 Democrats by year's end. Democrats need to win 25 seats in the 2012 election to take the majority in the House.

Poll: Romney is Obama's toughest competition

(CNN) - Mitt Romney would fare best among the top tier Republican presidential candidates against President Barack Obama in a 2012, according to a new national survey.

But the TIME Magazine/ABT SRBI poll released Thursday indicated Obama has razor thin three-point advantage over Romney, the former Massachusetts governor, with larger leads over Texas Gov. Rick Perry and former Godfather's Pizza CEO Herman Cain, in hypothetical 2012 general election matchups.

Obama campaign raises almost $43 million

Washington (CNN) – Exceeding the expectations some Democrats had set, the Obama re-election campaign raised $42.8 million in the period running from July through the end of September, an Obama campaign aide told CNN.

Overall, the campaign announced Thursday it and the Democratic National Committee brought in more than $70 million in the third quarter of fundraising.
