Obama: 'America's war in Iraq will be over'

(CNN) – "After nearly nine years, America's war in Iraq will be over," President Barack Obama said Friday in announcing the full withdrawal of U.S. troops by the end of the year.

The new partnership with Iraq will be "strong and enduring," after U.S. troops leave the country, Obama said.

so will the right wingers call this a "cut and run"?? Or will they just claim Obama is doing it for "political reasons"??

Another promise kept, another W mistake cleaned up. Been a good week for Barack: GOP clown show in Vegas, Moamar gone, exposed GOP for not caring about jobs, Iraq ending. Whine on GOP.

"Pretty sad when McCain didn't get the memo, but I did. Have a good day, Wire."

And Obama had to re-negotiate it because the situation changed and Iraq made requests that we keep troops there longer, etc. Your point?

Not to worry NYCitizen. There will be plenty of $$$ saved by bringing the troops home and defunding the the military industrial complex required to keep them in Iraq, which can be used for mental health counseling and to assist returning troops with jobs.

"GI Joe, just because we the 53% don't agree with you, and work every day to pay our bills, so you can sit back and wait for redistribution of wealth, does not make us hate and love $$$$$"

Many of us who do our research on the issues, are exrtemely well educated, make a lot of money, work hard, pay attention to facts, evidence, experts, historical record, etc., actually support taxes going up ON OURSELVES in order to fix the mess made by rampant randian reaganomic greed-is-good unicorn fart trickle-down daydream economic policies that were nothing more than the Big Lie driving the GOP's "final solution." The current tax code is the primary vehicle for redistributing all of the income, wealth and assets in the nation UPWARDS. Anyone who doesn't recognize this MATHEMATICAL FACT is either on the receiving end or blinded by ideology.

"No the democrats are doing a pretty good job of that, just listen to Vice Pres. Biden, murder, rape, mayhem, etc. etc."

What's the matter, does it bother you that it's a provable fact that declining economic conditions lead to increased violent crime? If so, I can assure that it's your subconscious sending out guilt alarms that manifest as a denial defense mechanism.

Too little too late. I thought Obama said the first thing he would do as president is bring the troops home. And we still have troops in Afghanistan.

Dan since your lunch hour is almost over does that guarantee, er, mean that we won't hear from you until quitting time?
I doubt it. Meanwhile, Dan, your Right wing buddy Pa. mom needs to be weaned off of the proverbial teat. Guess suckling is a bi-partisan activity eh?!

I am curious, though. How are the Republicans going to spin this to turn it into an attack on Obama? Should be interesting to watch. They'll have the whole weekend. Come on Luntz, get your talking points ready for the Sunday shows.

Purposefully conflating the promises he made to include Afghanistan? Cute.

Prayerfully they all come home safely.. and can begin to rebuild their lives!!! Prayerfully Congress and Senate will stop messing around and get jobs bill and the funding past in building our infrastructure and not other countries. The moment all foreign aid is stopped I will believe the country is in financial trouble. Every sporting event college or pros is sold out – places are packed. If it was really that bad and there was no disposable income... the places would be empty. IThe movment the arenas and stadiums are empty... I'll believe there is a recession.

    Don't believe the hype...

With all due respect to "PA mom" your child & or husband is being brought home by this President . . . there is no changing that. They are not 1 of the 6,500 dead in President Bush`s Iraq & Afghanistan wars.

I ask you to think back to early 2001, before 9-11. Bush was being crucified for being a poor leader who WAS NOT providing any direction for the country. I submit that he went to WAR because he wanted to bolster his presidential credibility, not because he thought there were WMDs.

Ma`am, you want to question Presidential motive? Based on his actions? Mr. Obama is fairly pure compared with President No. 43.

    Rejoice & be grateful.

Lizzie, I'm just curious. Are you saying that because there is a correlation between less cops on the street and more crime, that this is doom and gloom spread by the left?

Is this why the Republicans hate the Department of Education, and are trying their best to privatize public schools? So they can keep us dumb, afraid, and easily controlled?

    Another term

Obama campaigned in 2008 on pulling our troops out of Iraq. He makes good on this promise. He campaigned on shifting more troops to Afghanistan in order to hunt down and killed Bin Laden. He makes good on this promise.

He campaigned on making sure that millions of disadvantaged Americans have access to affordable health care. He makes good on this promise. He campaigned on making sure that gay soldiers serve our military without being discriminated against. He makes good on this promise.

He campaigned on making sure that Wall street is more regulated to avoid another economic crisis. He makes good on that. He campaigned on making sure that millionaires and billionaires pay their fair share of income taxes. with a fight, he's making good on this.

He has achieved in just over two years significantly above what George W Bush achieved in eight years. What else do we expect from a president? After all, he's human like any one of us and can fail in order to succeed.

Take a good long look at the changes that are taking place across the middle east and in the Islamic states since he gave his speech in Cairo shorty after his inauguration!

If any president does/did, Obama well deserves another term in the presidential office.

Dan, are you saying that those of us disappointed in the direction the Republican party has gone over the last couple of decades, could not have moved far away from the party. Or at least felt that maybe the party left us? I'm still a registered Republican but will never vote for another one ever again, until they leave the bigoted hateful lunatic fringe in the dust. My very own senator, Johnny Isakson, after I told him the horrible position my family was in regarding the costs of health care insurance, wrote me back to tell me that he would never do anything to change the health care laws of this great land, because he had to protect the profits of the insurance companies. I guess when he took the oath of office, he took it to them, not the rest of us. Disgusting.

I am afraid that all we have done is tied a bow on Iraq and handed it over to Iran as a present.
    Very disturbing.
