Perry expresses regret over taking part in debates

(CNN) – GOP presidential candidate Rick Perry said if he had made any mistakes thus far in the campaign, it was "probably ever doing one of the" debates.

"All they’re interested in is stirring it up between the candidates instead of really talking about the issues that are important to the American people," Perry said on Fox News Tuesday.

Perry sidesteps 'birther' question

Columbia, South Carolina (CNN) – Texas Gov. Rick Perry may be ready to put the so-called birther issue to rest after it became an unnecessary footnote to the rollout of his flat-tax announcement.

At a news conference in South Carolina's capital Tuesday, the Republican presidential candidate was asked about a recent interview with Parade magazine in which he raised doubts about the authenticity of President Barack Obama’s birth certificate.

Paul Ryan to slam Obama for 'politics of division'

Washington (CNN) – As President Obama continues a swing out West on Wednesday to push his economic proposals, House Budget Committee Chairman Paul Ryan plans to launch a blistering response in a speech in Washington.

Ryan will argue the president is practicing "the politics of division" and will say Obama needs to reverse course from a "path of debt, doubt, and decline," according to a Ryan aide familiar with the remarks.

(CNN) - Republican Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal, who won re-election Saturday in a landslide victory, praised Texas Gov. Rick Perry's flat-tax plan Tuesday as a measure that would free up the private sector.

Biden's office complains about reporter's conduct in hallway interview

Washington (CNN) - In the wake of an unscripted and confrontational interview with a reporter from a conservative news organization last week, staff for Vice President Biden phoned a Senate official to raise concerns about the reporter's conduct and to inquire whether the reporter violated any rules governing news coverage on Capitol Hill, a person familiar with the incident told CNN.

In the interview, which took place in a crowded public hallway in the Russell Senate Office Building, Human Events reporter Jason Mattera pointedly questioned Biden about his assertion that rape and other crimes would rise if Congressional Republicans voted down part of the president's jobs bill aimed at funding police jobs.

Perry takes sides in Ohio union fight after Romney dodges issue

Cincinnati, Ohio (CNN) - Texas Gov. Rick Perry took sides Tuesday in the ongoing battle over organized labor in Ohio, coming down forcefully on the side of Republicans who want to drastically limit the collective bargaining ability of public sector unions.

The Republican presidential contender made a point of weighing in on the issue after his rival, former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney, visited Ohio and left questions about his position on an upcoming ballot measure that would overturn the anti-union legislation.
