White House counsel refuses House panel's Solyndra subpoena

Washington (CNN) – The White House counsel refused Friday to comply with a subpoena as issued by a House panel regarding the failed solar energy company Solyndra, saying that the initiative "was driven more by partisan politics than a legitimate effort to conduct a responsible investigation."

Kathryn Ruemmler expressed her views in a letter to Reps. Fred Upton and Cliff Stearns, members of the House Energy and Commerce Committee. A day earlier, one of its subcommittees requested internal documents regarding the government's decision to issue more than half a billion dollars in federal loan guarantees in 2010 to Solyndra, which later filed for bankruptcy.

"White House could have avoided the need for subpoena authorizations if they had simply chosen to cooperate."

Yawn. The WH produced 20,000 pages of documents wilingly. The reality is, they don't show anything horribly wrong that the GOP can latch onto, so they're now conducting a witch hunt.

"To SNIFFIT....... Can you ,,,,, the voice of reason.......see any way that we can retrieve the beautiful country we used to have where we cared about the leaders and they cared about us??? This is getting so very scary and I'm trying hard not to give up !!"

Or people simply cared about each other? Yes. Country-wide general strike. Both DC and the wealthy need to be brought to heel. They think they can fool around threatening gov't shutdowns and defaults on the national debt, etc. Well, two can play at that game. They're like 3 year olds who've had too much Halloween candy and are running around with the giggles...they need a good firm slap on the a$$ and a time out. I say we give it to them.

It's starting already, since the president doesn't have a "Monica Lawinski" scandal the GOP are going on a witch hunt to try and find something. Look for this and the so called fast and furious investigation to keep popping up. Also I bet my paycheck that fox news will mention these two stories everyday, telling lie after lie as if it's the truth.

What they are hiding is cronyism, which is systemic in all branches of our government.

Consider also what just happened in a federal court in Texas. As described at http://LawInjustice.com, a Dallas business owner was involved in a civil dispute and paid millions of dollars to lawyers, and when he objected to additional fees after settling the case, they had a “friendly” judge seize all of his possessions, without any notice or hearing, and essentially ordered him under “house arrest” as an involuntary servant to the lawyers. The business owner has been under this "servant" order for 10 months and is prohibited from owning any possessions, prohibited from working, etc..

The White House is just stringing Republicans along, like what they did with the birth certificate controversy. The longer Republicans focus on investigations of non-existent scandals, and not on issues that Americans actually care about (jobs), the better the president's re-election chances will be. Seriously, why are Republicans so concerned about a loan to a company that went bankrupt? Bankruptcies happen. If a bank has to guarantee that every loan it makes will be paid back, and that no businesses will go bankrupt after they receive loans, no bank will be able to stay in the lending business.

Off topic, I know, but this is the same Rep. Fred Upton who is an heir to the Whirlpool fortune. You know, the same Whirlpool that is shipping 1000 jobs from Arkanas to China. If he can't stop his own family business from sending jobs overseas, how is he going convince the "job creators" from doing the same?

John Dingell (D-MI) said, "I've never seen a procedure quite like this." Are you kidding me? The guy got sworn in right after John Adams and just before Patrick Henry and George Washington. I doubt there is any congressional procedure he hasn't seen. I understand he was vehemently opposed to the Galloway Plan of Union. Good for him.

@Snifit: The 20,000 pages you cited were carefully scrutinized by the WH before they were sent. In other words, a concentrated cover up to protect Bozo and his Department of Energy. Why do you think White House Attorneys are crying fowl? Obviously they have something to hide or they would comply. I'm sure that people like you that don't pay taxes will blame Republicans for a witch hunt however a waste of 550 Million Taxpayer Dollars is of concern to Americans flipping the bill! PS: Your name is befitting!!

This is not a story. There is really only one story right now, and that is how long are the American people going allow the Republican party to get away with refusing to do anything to help the economy recover. Precious time is being wasted on political theater and selfish interests while others in the world economy take advantage of our stupidity.

Wow I smell a big fat cover-up. They won't cooperate because they are guilty of misusing our tax dollars for a bunch of bs! Impeachment is in order if this was a republican he would be thrown out on his head but it seems if you are a liberal you operate on a different set of standards. The crazy thing is that this idiot wants to spend even more money for a second stimulus what an idiot! And why is no one calling him on this we need to build roads and bridges
Crap he is trying to sell.
so we need another few billion dollars, then what is the gas tax for because I am pretty sure that is what we were told when they raised it that it was to keep up roads and bridges. This administration thinks we are all stupid and a lot of you are because you believe them.

Hey guys.......I think obama wants to take our GERNNNNS, pretty sure he also took our jerrrbs, lets vote him out of office because a republican will run this country so much differently, and then the witch hunt will continue from the other side of the room.....the two party system will be the downfall of any balanced budget

I would also like to add that unless we get more legislators for our citizens, and fewer career politicians.....this country will never chose the informed path and it will never remove itself from the horrible headline it is becoming

  24. Keeping it Real

Yawn? Really? There was plenty to prove that the White House did numerous things wrong in giving money to Solyndra. There is only one reason to refuse the subpoena. It's if you have something to hide and are guilty. This administration has been a joke with regards to accountability or transparency. I guess paying off Democrat supporters by wasting a HALF A BILLION DOLLARS means nothing to the liberal morons who think otherwise, but it does mean something to the rest of the country.
