'Devastating' cuts if super committee fails

New York (CNNMoney) - More criminals on the street. Fewer border guards. More instances of food poisoning and less reliable weather forecasts.

Sound like fun? These scenarios - and more like them - could play out if the so-called super committee fails, according to a paper by centrist Democratic think tank Third Way.

Devastating cuts are necessary to offset all of the runaway spending.

Sooner or later, you have to pay your bills......and the US is long overdue.

Ah yes, thank you Republicans. Yes, we need to work on our debt but the vast majority of economists and just plain level headed individuals have said that cutting back during a recession is one of the worst things we could possibly do. I know I will get hammered but our first stimulus was nowhere near big enough for the trouble we were in. Jobs is the most important thing and the cons in congress spend time on a motto bill? Give me a break. Jobs will bring in tax revenue and a thriving economy will then make it possible to tackle the debt problem. I am convinced Republicans do not want the economy to get better simply for political reasons. Pathetic.

if i were a democrat in the house i would sit down and offer nothing from the democratic side. the only thing i would do is vote as long as the part leader of the house calls the house into session which so far has been less than half the days that a full time american worker puts in a year! if i were the senate democratic leader i would stop banging my head against the just say no to everything mitch mcconnell and his trusty just vote no braindead followers. let the senate republicans come up with some ideas to work on for the fill in work day.

If our esteemed "leaders" have taught us anything over the years, it's that no problem is so large that it cannot be solved by a committee (or "super" committee), task force, or my all-time favorite... a BLUE RIBBON PANEL.

The Super Committee was and is DOA. What is devastating is that America's exercise in a democratic republic has failed and it has failed at the hands of Congress and the US Supreme Court. The only questions to remain are: Will we be an official monied plutocracy, Colony of China, or will the Occupy 99% be able to save what once was our democratic republic by revolting against those who have used their love of money and power against American lives, liberty and pursuit of happiness. I'm betting on the plutocracy but praying for the 99%.

The Democrats do not care. Their objective is to raise taxes. That's all they know and all they care about. It is greedy and self-serving. To think they would stop with billionaires is naive. They have their sights set on every working American and every American company. Thank goodness the Republicans are listening to the public and standing up to the out-of-control spending and tax-grab efforts.

Let's debate on what is the best way to cut off our legs! The Congress is so broken it will be amazing if anything gets accomplished! Simply put, Democrats believe in Tax and Spend Big Government. Republicans desire smaller government, lower taxes and personal empowerment. November 2012 must be a clearing house in Washington or we will drown as a Nation in debt and partisonship!

"Class warefare", I ask the former Gov. the same question I asked my Republican Senator and the offices of Sen. McConnel, Rep. Boehner & Rep. Cantor "Tell us exactly how has all the no votes and filibusters helped us?" I would also ask. If OWS is because of class warefare, what have Congressional Republicans done to defend us from this so called class warefare? Why have Republicans called OWS un-American, a This "super committee" was the result of Congressional Republicans obstructionist agenda. If it fails it will be because they continue to push that agenda. If they don't do what they were tasked to do because of their "No to everything" policy. They will lose more seats in Congress than they're already going to lose in 2012.

Opening paragraph pretty much sounds like the future of America if the GOP takes control of the White House...and continues tipping the scales in favor of the 1%.

If they fail to reach a compromise, all of them should be brought up of breach of duty charges and removed from office.
This is criminal that we pay them to do nothing. They should be the first 12 thrown out next year.
I would think both the Tea Party and the OWS crowds could get behind this.

Duh! Look at the rethugs on the committee! Did anyone really believe that these idiots (including the democrats) were going to really do anything for the citizerns of the US?
Until we get rid of 99% of the members in congress whose believe that god before everything else and they give up their rich friends and corporations, those who really run this country from afar we will never go back to this being a government of the people, by the people. Vote in 2012 to get rid of them. I don't care whether they are rethugs or demos if all out if their interest is lead by greed and money!

"More criminals on the street. Fewer border guards. More instances of food poisoning and less reliable weather forecasts"

This is also the scenario if the Republican position is embraced by the committee.

  16. The Greedy Old Pigs have declared class war on US!

The GOBP deathcult needs to stop caring only for the greedy and not the needy. The vast majority of Americans favor ending the Bush tax cuts for the filthy rich and a millionaire's tax. Yet the GOBP refuses to honor the wishes of the vast majority who want to move forward.
