Gingrich: I'm the tortoise, Romney's the hare

(CNN) - Newt Gingrich predicted Tuesday that rival Mitt Romney will be one of the final remaining candidates in the Republican presidential contest, but that it's Gingrich's responsibility to provide a set of solutions to those still uncommitted.

Gingrich, the former House Speaker, said there's a "big opportunity for an alternative candidate," given that Romney has not attracted more than 25% support in most national and statewide polls of current candidates.

"My job I think is to reach out to the 75 or 80% who aren't currently committed to Romney and to say here's a set of solutions that would actually get us back on the right track," Gingrich told ABC News.

While Romney's poll numbers have largely plateaued, Gingrich has seen his numbers rise after his campaign was dogged by controversy throughout the summer.

If his solution-based plan succeeds, Gingrich said Romney will be forced to stop his momentum.

"I'm not worried about stopping Romney," Gingrich said. "I'm worried about reaching that 75 to 80% who aren't currently committed to him."

In an interview Tuesday with CNN's Piers Morgan, Gingrich equated his plight to an Aesop fable: "The bunny rabbit runs by and falls asleep. The tortoise just keeps coming," Gingrich said. "So hopefully in this game, Mitt Romney will be the bunny rabbit and I'll be the tortoise. That would all work out perfectly."

More appropriately it should say "Newt looks like a tortoise and Mitt has good hair."
Sorry, couldn't help myself. I have nothing against either candidate.

BOTH of you are tortoises and BOTH of you will lose. The "stiff" (better known as Willard Romney) will never be POTUS and neither will you. The best thing to come out of this is neither of you will be heard from ever again.

Obama 2012. It just makes sense.

Some tortoise never catches up to the hare. Compared to these two, Obama is like a cheetah. The latest NBC/Wall Street Journal Poll has Obama beating Romney, the Republican frontrunner, by 6 points. Yes, Tea Partiers, the Wall Street Journal conducted the poll.

He will beat obama in any debate- the only problem is he won't be the nominee. He might make a good vice president (attack dog) but after cheeney that is something we should consider carefully.

Actually, Mr. Gingrich, you are an ethically challenged do-do bird. Whether it be sanctions, fines and removal from the
Senate, or "I did it for my Country" skirt chaser (being nice), you need to stay in the private sector and keep writing
    books.

Since republicans are so concerned with morals, they should choose between Herman the sex harrasser or Newt the divorcer. Mitt doesn't fit the bill.

    Not you Gingrich!

Yes, for sure, there's a dire need for the republican to come up with am 'alternative candidate' since Romney is not really a favorite for voters, however, that could not be Herman Cain nor Newt Gingrich. Both Newt and Herman are tainted with sexual addiction. Gingrich has had several sexual affairs while still married and Herman Cain has made too many sexual advances to young women to be considered viable candidates.

The republicans are still on the hunt and Huntsman, Bachmann, Paul, Perry and Santorum are all already rejected. So the certain candidate will be the flip flopper 'Mitt', but which Mitt?

Funny he's calling Romney the Hare... While Bachmann, then Perry, then Cain have all had their 15 minutes, Romney has been steady in the top two the whole time... For someone who is SO impressed by his own integillence, Gingrich is a bit slow on the uptake...

Newt's a joke in running for political office. He's unelectable. Just go teach college somewhere. I'm sure you'd be a good professor – seriously.

Anyone here boasting about Obama being the better choice needs to have their heads examined. Put aside your partisanship for a second and be objective. Obama had both houses of congress under his party's control while President and was fully able to implement HIS policies to change the country and improve the economy. He has been at TOTAL and COMPLETE failure. This is a fact.
