Bachmann: Protesters were 'ignorant' and 'disrespectful'

Columbia, South Carolina (CNN) – Republican presidential hopeful Michele Bachmann on Friday described protesters who interrupted her foreign policy speech aboard the USS Yorktown the day before as "ignorant" and "disrespectful."

"They haven't been told what was done for them and that's what's a shame. And I think that as soon as they would know, if they understood the heavy price that was paid for that First Amendment right, they'd be much more respectful," Bachmann said while shaking hands at a Veterans Day parade in Columbia, South Carolina.

On Thursday, about a dozen protesters caused a stir when they stood up and delivered a coordinated message through a tactic known as a "human microphone," where one person yells out a message and the rest of the group repeats it collectively. A group called Occupy Charleston claimed on its website that it has staged the interruption.

"Blaming people that disagree with you, unpatriotic socialists… this does not help the American people," the group shouted.

The disturbance drowned out the Minnesota congresswoman's remarks, and she briefly left the stage until it was over. When she returned, she praised the group's right to protest.

"Don't you just love the First Amendment? It's great, we have a great country and I want to thank you all for your understanding," she said.

But at the parade on Friday, after a woman unrelated to the group apologized for what happened at the speech, Bachmann talked about the incident with a harsher tone than the one she took the previous day

"I was surrounded by heroes yesterday on the USS Yorktown who paid a big price for them, and they're just ignorant of that," Bachmann responded. "That's all. They're ignorant and they were disrespectful, but you know someday hopefully they'll come to know the price that was applied."

So they shouldn't use their first amendment right because people died for them to have it? Please just go away.

I find it interesting that someone who walks around saying inflammatory things is offended that someone else used the same right to be rude. I am offended, however, that she tried to turn it into an issue relating to veterans. Do not use the sacrificesof our heroes to justify your anger that someone out did you on this night.

The the exercise of the rights that I served to protect are not disrespectful to me. What is disrepectful is the suppression of opposing thoughts.

Actually, Michelle, they do understand, its you who are ignorant and disrespectful. The sad thing is that you do this every day on the taxpayer dime, and you have nothing to show for 5 years on a US Rep's salary: not one law, not one bill, nothing but blather and disrespect for people that contribute more in a day than you have in your lifetime.

Bachmann: The protesters were "ignorant and .. disrespectful."

They must have fit in quite nicely with that Tea Party crowd, then. This was a taste of your own medicine, Bachmann.

If it were the tea party it would have been OK. OWS movement? Verboten!!!!!! What did Mrs Bachman say when tea partiers were disrupting town halls all over the country? Nada!

That's right Michelle. They were rude and ignorant, unlike the "respectful" Tea Partier who crashed and yelled at democrats conducting town meetings. You are one of the leaders of the "Do As We Say, Not As We Do" party andyou act like the pige in "Animal Farm". You have no shame and you certainly do not act as the Bible says a Christian should.

"after a woman unrelated to the group apologized for what happened at the speech"

Really? How delightfully absurd. What did Bachman's campaign staff pay her for doing the whole set-up for Bachman to rant about the protesters?

This is what regular Americans do when they see someone like Michelle Bachmann, whose narrow-minded, intolerant attitudes threaten our political system and our way of life. Get over yourself, Michelle. You are the scum of the current Washington crowd and your support group is a lot smaller than you think. You are an embarrassment, not only to yourself, but to the idiots who elected you, and every decent, hard-working American. Time to call it quits!

Wonder if she said the same when the TEA Party crowd was yelling and throwing a fit last year at all those townhall meetings? My guess is she wasn't.

"Don't you just love the First Amendment? It's great, we have a great country and I want to thank you all for your understanding," she said.:

Yes, I do "love" the First Amendment, Michele. It gives YOU a platform to spew forth your lies and unchristian like innuendo, and others of us the right to debunk every vicious lie you spread.

  18. REALLY?

Michelle Bachman is getting a taste of her own medicine. How does it feel? Not so great huh? She continues to spew hate and disrespect for the President of the United States, yet she expects to be treated with respect? REALLY? You reap what you sow Michelle.

Bachmann has continually demonstrated herself as loudly "ignorant and disrespectful" and should expect no less in return. Regrettably the Republican Party / Tea Party is filled with candidates like her – those eager to be "puppets" for the powerful, influential and very wealthy few who strongly support them and who "pull their strings". GWBush was a vivid example of what they want to return to, without concern or conscience for what it costs the people.

Yeah they are ignorant and disrespectful when it happens to you! When it happens to President Obama they upset, concerned, patriotic Americans who are exercising their 1st Amendment rights. Lady get over yourself and no one could be more disrespectful than you and obnoxious too!

I think it is ignorant and disrepectful of you to waste millions of other peoples dollars arrogantly seeking a position you are completely incapable of even begining to handle when those millions of dollars could have gone to help the homeless / those who don't have enough to eat or seniors who can't afford the medicne they need / to improve our schools / our education system / even a cure for cancer. You and the other arrogant hypocritical know nothings running as republicans should all be ashamed. You have nothing to offer but criticism.
