Bachmann: Protesters were 'ignorant' and 'disrespectful'

Columbia, South Carolina (CNN) - Republican presidential hopeful Michele Bachmann on Friday described protesters who interrupted her foreign policy speech aboard the USS Yorktown the day before as "ignorant" and "disrespectful."

"They haven't been told what was done for them and that's what's a shame. And I think that as soon as they would know, if they understood the heavy price that was paid for that First Amendment right, they'd be much more respectful," Bachmann said while shaking hands at a Veterans Day parade in Columbia, South Carolina.

On Thursday, about a dozen protesters caused a stir when they stood up and delivered a coordinated message through a tactic known as a "human microphone," where one person yells out a message and the rest of the group repeats it collectively. A group called Occupy Charleston claimed on its website that it has staged the interruption.

"Blaming people that disagree with you, unpatriotic socialists… this does not help the American people," the group shouted.

The disturbance drowned out the Minnesota congresswoman's remarks, and she briefly left the stage until it was over. When she returned, she praised the group's right to protest.

"Don't you just love the First Amendment? It's great, we have a great country and I want to thank you all for your understanding," she said.

But at the parade on Friday, after a woman unrelated to the group apologized for what happened at the speech, Bachmann talked about the incident with a harsher tone than the one she took the previous day

"I was surrounded by heroes yesterday on the USS Yorktown who paid a big price for them, and they're just ignorant of that," Bachmann responded. "That's all. They're ignorant and they were disrespectful, but you know someday hopefully they'll come to know the price that was applied."

So, the protesters were supposed to thank Bachmann for fighting on foreign battlefields for their freedom? The only battle that ignorant idiot has been involved in is trying to convert gays to Medicaid's expense, of course.

Well honey, you haven't seen the football since the kickoff!! Now you see what a fascist really is in the flesh0.
She tells other people what they can say and what they shouldn't say about their opinions on a subject and disrespects them when they express their opinion.

She's pathetic. She didn't know how to respond so she uses the standard lecture about not appreciating our rights. We know these rights, that's why we exercise them when confronted with people like her.

What Bachmann fails to realize is that she does not deserve any respect...

She only praised the first amendment because there weren't enough police officers there to arrest everybody.

One district elected her to the house of reps.
Please remember that she does represent our values here in Minnesota.
    Thank you

Gees I never heard her talk badly about the tea party folks who shouted down the town meetings before the health care initiative was passed. She obviously doesn't like her own medicine. I thought it was just great what happened and showed there are a lot of people who disagree with her.

From the clip that I saw she should be glad that they were there. There didn't seem to be anyone else there BUT the protesters and it was the only thing newsworthy about the affair.

Politicians create wars and soldiers fight them. We can disagree with the righteousness of the cause, without demeaning those we ask to make sacrifices on our behalf. The solution is to make sure that the country goes to war, not just the military. If we all have skin in the game, either by having our loved ones in harm's way or by paying the cost through increased taxes, we will make sure that the cause is indeed righteous.

Will someone please explain why someone's "right" to free speech, has the right to disrupt my life. There were people there that wanted to hear what she had to say. Whether you agree or disagree with what she says, she has as much right to say it as you do. Further more what gave these protesters the right, to yell and disrupt, and stop me or anyone else what they want to hear. I find it interesting that quite often when a consertive speaking, and the "left" is shouting them down; yet the left are supposed to be enlightened and inclusive. That is only if you agree with them. Just for the record, I am an independant and do not support Bachman.

So... protestors marching around in tri-corner hats often while armed are patriotic but unarmed albeit loud protestors are "ignorant" and "disrespectful"? Someone is VERY confused... her initials are Michele Bachmann.

SEAL Team Alpha and Omega, you forgot to metion their hourly prayers that coincide with the FOX TV schedule. Another cahracteristic of the Tea Party Syndrome is the lapses of memeory at critical times, such as written tests or debates, as well as a need to deflect attention away from their interpersonal relationships. Because of this, their mating habits remain largely a mystery, but fragmentary evidence indicates the use of what is now called " Herman Cain Method".
