Bachmann: Protesters were 'ignorant' and 'disrespectful'

Columbia, South Carolina (CNN) - Republican presidential hopeful Michele Bachmann on Friday described protesters who interrupted her foreign policy speech aboard the USS Yorktown the day before as "ignorant" and "disrespectful."

"They haven't been told what was done for them and that's what's a shame. And I think that as soon as they would know, if they understood the heavy price that was paid for that First Amendment right, they'd be much more respectful," Bachmann said while shaking hands at a Veterans Day parade in Columbia, South Carolina.

On Thursday, about a dozen protesters caused a stir when they stood up and delivered a coordinated message through a tactic known as a "human microphone," where one person yells out a message and the rest of the group repeats it collectively. A group called Occupy Charleston claimed on its website that it has staged the interruption.

"Blaming people that disagree with you, unpatriotic socialists… this does not help the American people," the group shouted.

The disturbance drowned out the Minnesota congresswoman's remarks, and she briefly left the stage until it was over. When she returned, she praised the group's right to protest.

"Don't you just love the First Amendment? It's great, we have a great country and I want to thank you all for your understanding," she said.

But at the parade on Friday, after a woman unrelated to the group apologized for what happened at the speech, Bachmann talked about the incident with a harsher tone than the one she took the previous day

"I was surrounded by heroes yesterday on the USS Yorktown who paid a big price for them, and they're just ignorant of that," Bachmann responded. "That's all. They're ignorant and they were disrespectful, but you know someday hopefully they'll come to know the price that was applied."

The problem with the first amendment is that it allows everyone to speak. Not just Bachman, and not even just the people who served in the military, it means everyone. Bachman certainly never served her country and she feels ok about disrespecting a lot of Americans. She is just playing so she can get a Fox gig when she is voted out.

I loved reading these comments. They sum up every single thing there is to say about Michelle Bachmann, tea bags and the republicans.

Why is CNN still covering the Crazy Lady? Her poll numbers are microscopic. And before that ignorant, hypocritical, wing nut starts talking about people dying to defend this country and it's ideals – To the best of my knowledge Michele's family has ZERO history of serving in this nation's military. She is, like Dick Cheney, a Chicken Hawk. Quick to send other folks children to die, but unwilling to risk her own brood.

"If you want to protest and be morons, do it out side on the side walk where the rest of us can tell you what rubbish you are."

So now you want to dictate where people can exercise their rights? why do you hate America so?

AND she will go down with full benefits & health ins for the REST of her life----not to mention all the other benefits–to be recieved my her & her family!!--–and she & her "party" reject any attempt to even things out between the classes! America IS the Middle Class & we are disappearing-----it is so unfair! I am the first one to say that there are extreme abuses of our welfare/disability & other services and should be MUCH MUCH stricker! Where are the overseers? JOBS??? Where are the food inspectors? Jobs?

"Blaming people that disagree with you, unpatriotic socialists". I get why she is angry, hecklers are annoying. I just wish she would buy a dictionary and start delivering coherent messages on occasion.

While I strongly support free speech, it's sad to consider that the sacrifices of our veterans include providing freedom for bimbos like Bachmann to campaign by telling outright lies. Yes, she has the right to say them, but that isn't one of the reasons behind the sacrifices. Somewhere in the list you will find Honor and Honesty...two words obviously foreign to Bachmann.

"Blaming people that disagree with you, unpatriotic socialists… this does not help the American people," the group shouted.

I didn't have to read any further – Hypocrite! Completely and utterly!

Why was the Tea Party born? Simple! They didn't like the policies of the other side! They have protested, loudly, on the steps of congress, on the steps of the capital, during speeches by house reps and senators, blaming people THEY DIDN'T AGREE WITH! How stupid are you lady?

Furthermore, I totally and wholeheartedly understand the sacrifices my father, grandfather, another grandfather, (3) great Grandfathers, (2) cousins, and (5) classmates made for me to have my freedom to say: You have no idea the prices paid daily in this country by it's citizens, under the crushing heel of overbearing taxes, restrictions, and meddling hands. You also have no idea how hard it is to work at a business that pays less in taxes that you do.

Why do Republicans like Bachmann think the Bill of Rights only applies to people who think like they do?

The majority of the commentary here is pathetic and misguided. It is ABSOLUTELY disrespectful to interrupt a speaker when there is a large audience who attended to hear the message that the speaker was delivering – disrespectful to the speaker and disrespectful to the attendees. Do you folks who condone this behavior even understand what the word 'disrespectful' means? Have you ever noticed that conservatives never resort to this bush-league and petty type of behavior?

Would your teachers have allowed you to stand up during class, interrupting her and bothering other students? I think not.

Their behavior was also ignorant – do any of you even know what Michelle Bachman was discussing during her speech? She was discussing foreign policy and the great sacrifices that our brave men and women in uniform have made for this country, on the eve of Veteran's Day. Many in the audience were Veterans. Does your partisanship know no bounds of decency?
I'm not a Michelle Bachman supporter, and definitely not an Obama supporter, but I can guarantee you that if I were to attend an Obama speech, I certainly wouldn't act like a disrespectful, ignorant moron by interrupting him in this manner.

What world do you people live in who disagree that this was both disrespectful and ignorant behavior on the part of the interrupters?

davey, did you go to a town hall meeting and shout down the speakers? All your teabaggin' friends were there.

I know what was done for her family: hundreds of thousands of dollars of subsidies from the feds for their family farm. And she calls herself a conservative. Money –> Mouth
