Bachmann: Protesters were 'ignorant' and 'disrespectful'

Columbia, South Carolina (CNN) - Republican presidential hopeful Michele Bachmann on Friday described protesters who interrupted her foreign policy speech aboard the USS Yorktown the day before as "ignorant" and "disrespectful."

"They haven't been told what was done for them and that's what's a shame. And I think that as soon as they would know, if they understood the heavy price that was paid for that First Amendment right, they'd be much more respectful," Bachmann said while shaking hands at a Veterans Day parade in Columbia, South Carolina.

On Thursday, about a dozen protesters caused a stir when they stood up and delivered a coordinated message through a tactic known as a "human microphone," where one person yells out a message and the rest of the group repeats it collectively. A group called Occupy Charleston claimed on its website that it has staged the interruption.

"Blaming people that disagree with you, unpatriotic socialists… this does not help the American people," the group shouted.

The disturbance drowned out the Minnesota congresswoman's remarks, and she briefly left the stage until it was over. When she returned, she praised the group's right to protest.

"Don't you just love the First Amendment? It's great, we have a great country and I want to thank you all for your understanding," she said.

But at the parade on Friday, after a woman unrelated to the group apologized for what happened at the speech, Bachmann talked about the incident with a harsher tone than the one she took the previous day

"I was surrounded by heroes yesterday on the USS Yorktown who paid a big price for them, and they're just ignorant of that," Bachmann responded. "That's all. They're ignorant and they were disrespectful, but you know someday hopefully they'll come to know the price that was applied."

Michelle wants a piece of the Palin $$$ pie. She knows that there are enough dolts in the Tea Party to fork over every cent they have to furnish her lifestyle. It certainly worked for Palin so why not?

I find it very ironic of those here defending Bachmann use words like LIBERTARDS as they defend her, yet the left is so dis respectful. You just have to laugh at the ignorance let alone the arrogance

...Have you ever noticed that conservatives never resort to this bush-league and petty type of behavior?...

Two words for you, Ben: Tea Party. Compare the video of Occupy Charleston's protest with videos of Tea Partiers venting their rage against the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act two summers ago and then try telling me about how much more disciplined, polite and respectful conservatives are. If anything the Tea Partiers should be taking a lesson from the Occupiers in how to send a message in an impressive, organized and yet non-threatening way, and they didn't have to derail the whole event to do it.

The teaba99ers/bachman are the epitomy of ignorance and disrespect in this country. They don't care about anyone except their own interests and themselves. They cry and whine like elementary school children when they don't get their way. Time to pack it in also-ran.

Almost every comment on here reads something like, "No, it is you Michelle Bachmann who is ignorant and disrespectful." Basically an entire forum of "I know you are but what am I?" You all sound childish.

What a bunch of crybabies, yes, ignorant and disrespectful too. Why didn't security take them out? One security guard, just stood there. He gets paid to stand there? Anyone else, especially Obama, security would be all over the place, and that was before he became organizer in chief.

These people are downright stupid. If they had any brains, they would be in front of the white house with their juvenile protests. Camera's should shut down immediately when this crap started. Put up to it by the buffoons ows, which is backed by Acorn? OWS along with these morons, lost all credibility, they are good at throwing their human waste and feces around and destroying property. They don't deserve the 15 minutes of face time they are so hungry for.

Funny how I don't remember President Obama whining about being disrespected by tea partiers in the last 3 years even though it has happened quite frequently.

volksmaniac – Where have you been when she opens her mouth? In a hole in the ground? She spouts some of the worst rehertic of anyone. I would love to see a woman as President, of any race, but I would at least like her to be intelligent and something our wonderful country could be proud of. Nobody is afraid of her, she is a nutcase in high heels!

Why doesn't CNN post my comment? Not pro obama enough? CNN is biased to a fault, agenda is allegiance to Obama and clueless democrats who don't even know why they are protesting. LOL

Freedom of speech for Bachman but not for anyone who opposes her. Anyone who opposes her is an "unpatriotic socialist." What an irresponsible, ignorant, moron who seems to know nothing about what America is about. Who is she to call anyone "Un-American." We're all citizens of this nation. What is or is not American is defined by US, not by someones ideal of what it is. And what a distorted ideal she has... Pfffff

Bachman has been the epitome of ignorance and disrespect during her all too long career. She can't go a day it seems without making up facts and telling lies. And who was more disespectful during the summer of 2009 than the Tea Partiers that high-jacked all the congressional town meetings? Too bad she can't take what she and her buddies dish out.

First of all Bachmann making a speech on foreign policy is too funny in itself since she doesn't know American history I don't think that she is capable of knowing anything about any other country. Secondly she called them ignorant? More than that I don't have to say.

If I was Michelle Bachman, I would tell that crowd – given it is almost entirely people heckling – "Send one representative over to the side and we will chat about whatever issue it is that you are passionate about. In the future, know that this is not the right way to get progress done." I would then say to the guy that walked up to the front of the room that it can't be him cause he took the stage. (hah)
