Bachmann: Protesters were 'ignorant' and 'disrespectful'

Columbia, South Carolina (CNN) - Republican presidential hopeful Michele Bachmann on Friday described protesters who interrupted her foreign policy speech aboard the USS Yorktown the day before as "ignorant" and "disrespectful."

"They haven't been told what was done for them and that's what's a shame. And I think that as soon as they would know, if they understood the heavy price that was paid for that First Amendment right, they'd be much more respectful," Bachmann said while shaking hands at a Veterans Day parade in Columbia, South Carolina.

On Thursday, about a dozen protesters caused a stir when they stood up and delivered a coordinated message through a tactic known as a "human microphone," where one person yells out a message and the rest of the group repeats it collectively. A group called Occupy Charleston claimed on its website that it has staged the interruption.

"Blaming people that disagree with you, unpatriotic socialists… this does not help the American people," the group shouted.

The disturbance drowned out the Minnesota congresswoman's remarks, and she briefly left the stage until it was over. When she returned, she praised the group's right to protest.

"Don't you just love the First Amendment? It's great, we have a great country and I want to thank you all for your understanding," she said.

But at the parade on Friday, after a woman unrelated to the group apologized for what happened at the speech, Bachmann talked about the incident with a harsher tone than the one she took the previous day

"I was surrounded by heroes yesterday on the USS Yorktown who paid a big price for them, and they're just ignorant of that," Bachmann responded. "That's all. They're ignorant and they were disrespectful, but you know someday hopefully they'll come to know the price that was applied."

She was totally accurate in her assessment of the OWS crowd. You would have to be in denile to think otherwise

So Americans doing the one thing our ancestors fought and died for, protesting what we don't like, is disrespectful? Ignorant? It's part of what it means to be an American! We don't have to put up with nonsense like the GOP keep spewing out. We can stand up and say NO to the idiocy of the GOP and its minions.

This woman is a boneheaded bimbo.

No, strike that. She's a brainless, ignorant, disrespectful, unAmerican boneheaded bimbo.

Once again, not presidential material. Embrace people's differences instead of judging them. Those who have no sins shall cast the first stone, isn't that right, Michele? So stop casting, you have committed plenty of sins, and both you and your closeted, effeminate, pray-away-the-gay hubby still do. One additional downer is that awful combination of the black and white top you are wearing, paired the with the 'patriotic scarf.' Big no-no, so look in the mirror first before jabbing at others.

Can this circus get any more fun. She is ignorant and can go back to hawking "cures" for people who do not need them. Then, she can return the taxpayers money for her family farm.

Michele is the ignorant one. She disrespects the people when she says that those who do not work should not eat.

She is old, ignorant and history.

This shows the violent and totalitarian core at the heart of the radical Left, which talks about free speech but insists on silencing those with whom they disagree: "Free speech for me, but not for thee."
The OWS nihilist hooligans have taken their cue from Princess Pelosi and Hussein Obama, both of whom have praised them. Bachmann has been the most courageous and honorable among in the political class for labeling the OWS crowd for what it is: an organized mob of Communists and other radicals who want something for nothing.

Apperantly everyone has the right to freedom of expression EXCEPT Michelle Backman. Why is it when she wants her turn to speak she is interupted. And when she complains her freedom of expression was interupted, you claim your freedom of expression was more worthy than hers? Get a brain – please.

You were not invited to speak at the crowd, she was. Do you even know what courtesy means? Are you mentally old enough to "get it?"

Hey Michelle, I live in your district, served on an aircraft carrier during the Vietnam war and I think you're an idiot. How do you like those apples. You know, apples kinda like aamodt's apple orchard over there on Manning in Stillwater your home town where Marcas swishes the gay out of people. Sheesh, when the #### are you going to go away?

They understand – they just disagree with you. They also weren't so disrespectful as to obviously manipulate Remembrance Day for their own personal gain. Shame on you.

In other words she fully supports the Tea Parties right to do the exact same thing at town hall meetings in the runup to the last election. But when people she doesn't agree with do it to her, they are ignorant and disrespectful.

There is a time and a place to protest – it is not acceptable for the OWS people or Tea Partiers to ever shout down someone making a speech. That is just bad manners, and it is ignorant and disrespectful of what the First Amendment is. Civil discourse to get your point across is ok – being an idiot is not.

  18. Bachmann gets farm subsidies = socialist

From today's "Minnesota Independent": A survey "found that U.S. Rep. Michele Bachmann was the most unpopular figure of the 11 surveyed, with those surveyed giving her a rating of 33 out of 100. It also found that even in her home state, Bachmann would perform much worse in a hypothetical match-up against Pres. Barack Obama than either Herman Cain or Mitt Romney. Obama won in all three hypothetical match-ups." Her poll numbers are around 6%. What I want to know is, who are the 6% who favor her, and why is she still relevant?

Pot meet kettle. Bachmann's political career has been built entirely on ignorance and disrespect so she should be able to recognize it. I'm sure her first act as President would be to have these people investigated for anti-american activities since that's what she suggested the media should do to Congress back in 2008. According to Bachmann and other fringe Republicans free speech is only allowed if you're parroting the reich-wing dogma.
