Bachmann: Protesters were 'ignorant' and 'disrespectful'

Columbia, South Carolina (CNN) - Republican presidential hopeful Michele Bachmann on Friday described protesters who interrupted her foreign policy speech aboard the USS Yorktown the day before as "ignorant" and "disrespectful."

"They haven't been told what was done for them and that's what's a shame. And I think that as soon as they would know, if they understood the heavy price that was paid for that First Amendment right, they'd be much more respectful," Bachmann said while shaking hands at a Veterans Day parade in Columbia, South Carolina.

On Thursday, about a dozen protesters caused a stir when they stood up and delivered a coordinated message through a tactic known as a "human microphone," where one person yells out a message and the rest of the group repeats it collectively. A group called Occupy Charleston claimed on its website that it has staged the interruption.

"Blaming people that disagree with you, unpatriotic socialists… this does not help the American people," the group shouted.

The disturbance drowned out the Minnesota congresswoman's remarks, and she briefly left the stage until it was over. When she returned, she praised the group's right to protest.

"Don't you just love the First Amendment? It's great, we have a great country and I want to thank you all for your understanding," she said.

But at the parade on Friday, after a woman unrelated to the group apologized for what happened at the speech, Bachmann talked about the incident with a harsher tone than the one she took the previous day

"I was surrounded by heroes yesterday on the USS Yorktown who paid a big price for them, and they're just ignorant of that," Bachmann responded. "That's all. They're ignorant and they were disrespectful, but you know someday hopefully they'll come to know the price that was applied."

Let's see - Ms. Bachmann is calling a group of people ignorant and disrespectful. This is coming from a totally brain dead person who is barely functioning as a GOP/Tea Party presidential candidate. Voters were there and voters are watching this stuff. She just doesn't get it. Hopefully, she'll be out of the prez race soon! Go back to the land of OZ, Ms. Bachmann. Adios!

My daughter is an Occupier in Louisville, KY, and many, many of her fellow Occupiers–in Louisville and throughout the country–are veterans. These are young people who have lived in a country at war since before they were adults, and became the soldiers fighting for the US once reaching adulthood. Michele Bachmann and others ready to dismiss these young people would do well to remember that many of them fully understand the sacrifices to which others only speak.

Michelle Bachman, it is YOU who are ignorant and disrespectful. Look at most all of the comments here and take a hint and drop out. You have nothing to show for yourself. For my mark your presence on that proud ship was disrespectful

Bachmann's comments coming from a politician that wants to cut Veterans Benefits and retirement. Hey Bachmann better run out and check your mailbox, pretty sure your husbands medicare payments came in today and your families farm subsidy is also due to arrive. Give me a break.....she has no idea what sacrifices were made by our military heros.

"Ignorant" as in the gaffes she's made on every subject from U.S. history, U.S. geography, effects of HPV inoculations, and basic civics. "Disrespectful" as in calls for investigations of whether democratic members of Congress are true patriots and the hate-filled lies she spews forth daily about the President. Is this the brand of "ignorant" and "disrespectful" she's talking about? Ms. Bachmann, do you want to see the true definition of these words? Would you like to see the true definition of a Republican? Look in the mirror, you narrow-minded, intolerant, idiot.

The group was ignorant and socialist? This comes from the buffoon Bacham who thought the vaccine caused retardation? This comes from the buckman who gets taxpayer subsidies for the family farm and for hubby's phony "pray away the gay"counseling service? Its obvious who is ignorant and socialist. . She need only look in the mirror.

Too bad that Bachmann didn't ask for a show of hands among the veterans to see how many were millionaires or the children of millionaires. It's doubtful that any hands would have gone up. The 1% that she represents are filthy rich, start the wars, get even richer off of them, but rarely, rarely do they go fight or allow their children to go fight. The ones who have the most to loose in the event our country were to fall contribute absolutely nothing to any war effort...not in tax money, their lives, or their children's lives. Bachmann is more ignorant than any Occupy protestor.

HA! It really sucks when people shout you down when you are trying to relay a message. Like during the Health care debates. Looks like the Tea Party doesn't like it's own medicine. Tell you what- all of you, tea and occupy, are insane and stupid. How about that?

Those protestors were a bunch of spoiled brats. If that's their idea of a better way then they are a bunch of jerks! If they can't protest respectfully as well as non-violently then their message will have no support from the rest of America. I see no true leader among them. Just a bunch of rabble rousers in this situation. Not impressed with their tactic at all.

This woman doesn't have a clue about the 1st amendment. She calls people who disagree with her names...she would probably try to have the 1st amendment changed to say only those who agree with her can speak.

"Ignorant" and "disrespectful". People who need to "come to know the price that was applied."

Says the woman who didn't have a clue where Concord and Lexington are. Talk about out of touch.

Many have chided Bachman for her comments concerning the protestors, but I have to agree that they were both ignorant and disrespectful. Many of the individuals who were present during that speech were decorated veterans who willingly offered up themselves sacrificially in the name of liberty for the protestor's right to protest. By using the event as a venue for protesting they were demonstrating ignorance of the significance and solmenity of the event. By ignoring or failing to acknowledge the nature of the venue while attempting to further their petty agenda (in comparison to the purpose of the event), they were also disrespectful. Feel free to disagree with me, but you'll be wasting your time–I'm a veteran as well.

Well well well, praise them for their right of free speech one day and then condemn them the next. And people thought Romney flip flops.

Michele, We love you and you know that. Look at all the support you are getting from the comments here today !! This should send a message to you and everyone that God wants you to be, no, insists that you, be seated in the White House. His glory will reign through you. We won't settle. Keep running the excellent campaign you have now and watch the crowds grow.

What Bachmann is actually saying is that she is a very important person and should be treated with respect. Another elitist reminding us that we should be quiet and just take what ever they give us.

What an interesting mix of native intelligence, willful ignorance, bizarre predilections and creepy obsessions she is. I'd love to hear her take on the black helicopters. What a fascinating president she would make.

I have a question. I'm wondering what Ms. Bachman is doing with her regular job as congress woman. Bachman/Palin use a lot of tax payer dollars to do nothing. Palin has finally figured out no one wanted her, now Bachman needs to get on her bus and go home.
