Columbia, South Carolina (CNN) – Republican presidential hopeful Michele Bachmann on Friday described protesters who interrupted her foreign policy speech aboard the USS Yorktown the day before as "ignorant" and "disrespectful."
"They haven't been told what was done for them and that's what's a shame. And I think that as soon as they would know, if they understood the heavy price that was paid for that First Amendment right, they'd be much more respectful," Bachmann said while shaking hands at a Veterans Day parade in Columbia, South Carolina.
On Thursday, about a dozen protesters caused a stir when they stood up and delivered a coordinated message through a tactic known as a "human microphone," where one person yells out a message and the rest of the group repeats it collectively. A group called Occupy Charleston claimed on its website that it has staged the interruption.
"Blaming people that disagree with you, unpatriotic socialists… this does not help the American people," the group shouted.
The disturbance drowned out the Minnesota congresswoman's remarks, and she briefly left the stage until it was over. When she returned, she praised the group's right to protest.
"Don't you just love the First Amendment? It's great, we have a great country and I want to thank you all for your understanding," she said.
But at the parade on Friday, after a woman unrelated to the group apologized for what happened at the speech, Bachmann talked about the incident with a harsher tone than the one she took the previous day
"I was surrounded by heroes yesterday on the USS Yorktown who paid a big price for them, and they're just ignorant of that," Bachmann responded. "That's all. They're ignorant and they were disrespectful, but you know someday hopefully they'll come to know the price that was applied."

If anyone knows about ignorance, it's the Queen of Ig.
I really do not need to comment, as I see 100% railing against Ms. Bachmann, and correctly so!
Not of lot of love here, Michelle! Anyone who's associated to an organization that aims to "cure the gay" is herself, extremely ignorant.
Lady, take your gay husband and go back to Minnesota. The good people in this country are not in interested in your brand of crazy.
She really doesnt get it, does she? She is a Judas goat to all womanhood. She would have you believe that the earth is flat simply because you cannot see past the visible horizon. Those who follow and support her are our biggest obstruction to moving into the future. Time always moves us forward, it can't move back. Her thinking is not only counter clockwise, it is counterintuitive.
Sooo many brave heroes fought and died for Michele Bachmann's right to spout lies and hysterical slander all over the place, but anyone who uses free speech to disagree with her is disrespectful. Do you think it's possible to pray the idiotic away?
Here we go again. Anyone who doesn't agree with a republican is unpatriotic. The woman, and most of the Republican's running for the nomination, don't know the history they claim to know. This country was founded on the principle of protest, and by people just like those who stood up and inturrupted her, and she calls them ignorant.
I could watch the video of her eyes getting crazier and crazier all day. Go.AWAY!Already.
Bachmann is right. I thought that the "Occupy" Movement was supposed to be neutral. Isn't that what the media has been telling us? How about letting people give their opinion BEFORE you protest their opinion. They have no idea what they are protesting. They have no respect for others or the property of others. They have no repect for the law. Where are the outcrys (or reporting for that matter) of the numnerous rapes that have taken place in the so-called camps. If not for the media fueled obsession to find something as powerful as the tea party movement, the "occupiers" would already be gone. They are already fading fast.
She is a non-factor. Even with major missteps by other candidates, Bachmann can not gain any ground. The only reason this is news is because it is another "She said something stupid again" moment. Her campaign is for entertainment purposes only, and should never be taken seriously.
Ha! The pot calling the kettle black..what a ignorant woman.
How they could have been ignorant and disrespectful, you NEVER SERVED Bachmann.
The problem is that the media gets so many hits from printing all the [] things she says. At this point it's like picking on the mentally handicapped child in junior high school. Let her fizzle-out, please. Just let it go. Then she can slink away with the rest of her digni.... well, she slink away.
Try that krap when I'm in the audience lib lemmings, see what happens.
Michele Bachmann has ZERO knowledge of history, science, or much else. Moreover, her "law" degree is from an unaccredited religious "university" where her courses included "Biblical Law"....it's a national embarrassment this woman is even a member of Congress, much less a candidate for any Federal office. She's in no position to call anyone ignorant. And "disrespectful" ??? Please...her vile and vicious comments about the President of the United States would have warranted her arrest on charges of Treason as recently as the 1940s. Unreal....will somebody PLEASE make this woman go away. She's a complete imb-cile.
everyday she sounds more and more like a disgruntled high school class president that nobody liked or voted for. Summer Wheatley syndrome. Vote for Pedro.
baby, sleeping with sailors during fleet week when you were back in college doesnt qualify as "appreciation for their sacrifices". but we understand. thats all you got
Someone PLEASE drop a pail of water on her.
Let me be clear: I do not agree with Michele Bachman's views. I think she's wrong in so many ways. However, I do not see how shouting to prevent someone with whom you disagree from speaking can be considered truly an exercise of free speech. That goes for all sides of an issue. Instead have an alternate speaker outside the event and have banners that display rebuttal facts. But I guess that takes too much work.
She' right it is ignorant and disrespectful to protest an event designed to honor veterans on veterans day. They may have the right to do which those service members provide to them. Just because you can do something doesn't always mean you should do something.
It is ironic that the Left accuses Bachmann of trying to silence critics when it was her critics who were trying to silence her. They do it over and over again and the press can't seem to see it. Starting to look like intentional blindness.
Occupy Wall St crashing the tea party. I love it.
Michelle, point that fickle finger of stupidity at the right person: the one you fawn over in the mirror. Don't know what you see, but intelligent voteres see a bigot and arrogant bimbette. Pitty your children for having been raised by a woman with no connection to reality. Go back to helping your husband take federal funds for "turning" gays straight.
Bachmann jumped the shark a long time ago with her insensitive, out-of-touch rants and her complete disconnect from Planet Earth. Thankfully, her star has fallen and she's just watching from the sidelines like a second-rate Sarah Palin. All of the Republican candidates are repugnant, but few annoy like Bachmann.
You can like her or hate her but she still has a right to talk..and the protesters do a disservice acting like school kids..their tactic although a freedom of speech also clashes with Bachmans freedom to say what she came to say...I say listen to her first then voice your protest thats the American way ..let everyone have their voice one side cannot try to override the other nothing is accomplished.....
