Bachmann: Protesters were 'ignorant' and 'disrespectful'

Columbia, South Carolina (CNN) – Republican presidential hopeful Michele Bachmann on Friday described protesters who interrupted her foreign policy speech aboard the USS Yorktown the day before as "ignorant" and "disrespectful."

"They haven't been told what was done for them and that's what's a shame. And I think that as soon as they would know, if they understood the heavy price that was paid for that First Amendment right, they'd be much more respectful," Bachmann said while shaking hands at a Veterans Day parade in Columbia, South Carolina.

On Thursday, about a dozen protesters caused a stir when they stood up and delivered a coordinated message through a tactic known as a "human microphone," where one person yells out a message and the rest of the group repeats it collectively. A group called Occupy Charleston claimed on its website that it has staged the interruption.

"Blaming people that disagree with you, unpatriotic socialists… this does not help the American people," the group shouted.

The disturbance drowned out the Minnesota congresswoman's remarks, and she briefly left the stage until it was over. When she returned, she praised the group's right to protest.

"Don't you just love the First Amendment? It's great, we have a great country and I want to thank you all for your understanding," she said.

But at the parade on Friday, after a woman unrelated to the group apologized for what happened at the speech, Bachmann talked about the incident with a harsher tone than the one she took the previous day

"I was surrounded by heroes yesterday on the USS Yorktown who paid a big price for them, and they're just ignorant of that," Bachmann responded. "That's all. They're ignorant and they were disrespectful, but you know someday hopefully they'll come to know the price that was applied."

Anybody out there knows if she is coming to California to give a speech. I for one will take the day off work to drown out her hate speech.

At least they knew what they were talking about. Bachmann on the other hand gets her facts confused and makes thing up on the fly, just like every other stupid creationist. Anyone who supports intelligent design (rebranded creationism) is a fool - but Bachmann wants this to be taught in public schools. Happily, that will never come to pass because it's against the law.

I'd add clueless and violent to complete the picture of the left in this country. They aren't content with destroying Europe, they want to destroy the USA as well.

Whatever Bachmann says is not worth the pixels used to show it. She is an international joke.

Bachmann is an ignorant idiot. I blame the Minnesotans who voted for her, giving this lunatic legitimacy to take the national stage. What were they thinking or were they captivated by her fostering children and short IRS tenure and her idiot gay husband? She is almost worse than Palin.

Wirh all due respect, Ms Bachman, I do not think you paid any price at all. While I deplore the use of protest to shut down and destroy civil discourse, I also deplore the use of military backdrops to which you have no legitimate claim for partisan political publicity.

Some of us find it ignorant and disrespectrul for you to run for a job you are woefully short of capability to perform. Your serious lack of effort in learning the fundamentals of your job would put all the rest of us in severe danger, were you to become president. As Samuel Johnson so elequently stated "Patriotism is the last refuge of scoundrels".

"It seems that the definition today of "patriot" depends upon your political perspective, doesn't it."

No. Contrary to may true-believers in the false equivalencies sold daily by the MSM, I think I speak for most liberls like myself when I say I do not question for even a second the love, respect and honor accorded our nation by people like the Teatrolls and those who I view as most vehemently crazed and grossly misinformed about the issues and misguided as to how we should fix them. The same cannot, however, be said about my opinion of those who are purposefully misinforming them and leading them astray of reasonable, rational, fact-based perspectives and solutions in order to further a blatantly plutocratic partisan political agenda paid for by the wealthy and giant corporations.

Besides, this patriotism silliness all really sort of started when the GOP decided that playing up 9-11 and the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq as justification for characterizing anyone who disagreed and criticized the POTUS and his policies and decisions "during wartime" as "unAmurikan" and "unpatriotic." Fascism rides in on a horse named Nationalism...

Folks this is all this woman is about. One of the earlier commenters was right, read Orwell's "Animal Farm" (if you already have, reread it). To paraphrase Orwell, "some protesters are more equal than others". If Bachmann and her ilk have their way, some of her supporters will soon find out that they are not the "right kind" of Christians. She will twist her self into what ever pretzle shape to keep her money people happy and to keep in power. Take the money (regardless of where it is coming from) out of politcs and save our country, it's not too late.

But the protesters were respectful. They had their say and left. What arrogance to thinkg that they don't have the right. How unbelievable childish and intolerant for those like Six Degrees, bed-wetting types that are so afraid of respectful protests.

"...if they understood ... that First Amendment right, they'd be much more respectful..."

That's Right, Michelle. If they only understood the first amendment better, then they'd stop using it.

    Sheesh what an idiot.

SixDegrees –– The reason that these "protesting oafs" used the tactic that the did is precisely because it is not possible to engage in rational discourse with this woman about anything. She is an ignorant ideologue who uses simplistic talking points to respond to every question posed because she has no original thoughts of her own from which she can draw. If she had EVER engaged in any useful discourse with people who didn't agree with her then this tactic would have been unnecessary. At this point, she just needs to be drowned out.

I guess it is okay for the Tea Party to disrupt someone with a differant view than theirs , but not for somebody to disrupt them. This Republican slate running for President, has to be the worst in history.
