Washington (CNN) - Ten years after its formation, the Transportation Security Administration on Wednesday got the type of birthday card no one wants to receive - a blistering report from Republican lawmakers who said the agency is "bloated" and "inefficient" and has done little, if anything, to improve aviation security.
Rep. John Mica, R-Florida, a longtime critic who has fought to privatize TSA screening jobs, said Congress never intended the agency it created in November 2001 to "mushroom" into a workforce of 65,000 employees, "top heavy" with bureaucrats.
I would remind the GOP that the TSA was a result of the Buish Administration. Only when a Democrat is President do the GOP critize "inefficient" government agencies. Party before country is the GOP motto!
Let's see.. the TSA gets lost in the Home Land Security swamp. Hmmm Who created Homeland Security? Oh yah, George Bush. So the Repbulican's who are complaining about the TSA are the ones who created the problem. The real agenda here is the same Republican mantra, get rid of public employees. Get rid of Unions. Get rid of pensions. Privstise airport security. Cut workers wages. Deregulate airport security. Great ideas, hey look how good the deregulation of the banks and wall street worked. I would support a more sane approach to security. Certainly it is not difficult to spot a potential threat. And that is not a little child or a grandmother. If we get real with whom we screen then it's a god idea. But I Digress. Once again, it's the same Republican drum beat, create a problem and then blame the worker. Is anyone catching on to this crap?
And this is what happens when there's no oversight or corporate responsibility that the GOP want throughout the entire business community. The GOP created the situation that allows crap to happen, and they won't admit it. They never tried to fix it. They created the monster. They should be the ones taking the responsibility for turning it loose on society.
14,000 administrative jobs out of 50-60,000 and with 6 figure salaries??? No wonder this country is going broke. Of course, I'm sure the Democrats will argue every one of them is critical to the government functioning.
My first question is what is Rep. John Mica cut if they privatize TSA? GOP shut up about TSA and get to work on the economy.
Demo- we are going broke because neo conservative republicans have spent like drunken sailors on tax cuts, unfunded unnecessary wars, unfunded bank bail outs, unfunded drug programs and the $5.5 trillion your party added to the national debt. Thanks for playing, though.
Once again you can cue the Far Left Hate Machine who will accuse the Republicans of creating TSA. If you were not busy trolling the comments section, maybe you'd know that the Aviation and Transportation Security Act was co-sponsored by a Republican in the House of Representatives and a Democrat in the Senate. And at the time was pretty much supported across the aisle. Oh that is right, you don't like facts or figures...you want to preach hasty generalizations...
TSA was created by that elder stateman "W" Bush. These GOP'ers are nothing but a bunch of hypocritical pukes.
The GOP....create a problem. Watch it get out of hand. Blame anyone else. I think I've heard this before....
I wish I had a dime for every idle TSA agent I've seen at our Nation's airports.
One reason I refuse to fly is the fact I don't want some government employee putting their hands all over me or looking at me when I'm in a scanner. The TSA is a big waste of tax dollar money. We need to put in place what Israel has done for years....PROFILING and it's kept their airports safer for a whole less money.
Democrat Class Warfare...they wouldn't know. The Republicans and the Bush administration came up with the TSA.
National security is a government responsibility. If you privatize the TSA, are you willing to privatize the Army, Navy, Air Force, National Guard, etc.?
Who are these guys trying to fool. Their party created this huge mess, and this huge department.
gop, stick it. You're always complaining about something trivial. Where are the J-O-B-S?
