Third reason Pelosi can't debate Perry slips her mind

Washington (CNN) - House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi declined Republican presidential candidate Rick Perry's debate invitation and poked a little fun at the Texas governor while she was at it.

"He did ask if I could debate here in Washington on Monday," Pelosi said, responding to a question about Perry's invitation. "It is my understanding that such a letter has come in. Monday I'm going to be in Portland in the morning and I'm going to be visiting some of our labs in the afternoon, that's two, I can't remember what the third thing is I'm going to be doing."

Pelosi was ribbing Perry for his recent debate gaffe when he couldn't recall the third government agency he would shut down if elected president during an awkward 54 seconds of air time.

Gov. Perry responded through his personal and campaign twitter accounts saying, "Something @NancyPelosi would like to forget: passing a 2k-page gov takeover of healthcare without reading it. American ppl haven't forgotten."

According the newspaper The Hill, Perry sent a letter to Pelosi saying, "I am in Washington Monday and would love to engage you in a public debate about my Overhaul Washington plan versus the congressional status quo. I think it would be a tremendous service to the American people to see a public airing of these differences," he continued. "Let the people decide. If Monday doesn't work, perhaps we could find a time in Iowa over the course of the next month to discuss these issues in front of the people of America's heartland."

Gov. Perry's Overhaul Washington plan includes cutting Congress to a part-time body.

Guess what, Perry, Congress only works part-time as it is. Next year they will be in session only 109 days.

Great response by Pelosi to Perry's debate request.

Perry is again having a brain cramp he does even know who is is debating Pelosi or the GOP candidates. Better concentrate on Romney and Cain and not Obama and Pelosi.

In politics you don't debate down. So Pelosi and Obama will never debate the likes of Parry. But if you are in the Repub primary then you debate with your group of peers – the current pack should be in a shallow stagnant swamp that would represent their personal and collective best.

Thats the best he can come with: "A gov takeover of healthcare"?

I would like to ask how is anything in the Affordable Healthcare Act a takeover of healthcare? Not a single, simple-minded republican has ever answered that question.

Pelosi cannot debate. It's not in her DNA. She can only point fingers and make her eyes pop out, while she studders over her words. She may be the ONE that could make Perry shine in a debate.

Oh good gosh, as much as I don't like Nancy Pelosi, she would wipe the floor with Rick Perry. Rick is delusional if he thinks he can debate her.
And btw, Rick, as a lifelong Texan, I'd like you to tell me just how well that "part time legislature" is working for us here in Texas. Most of the legislators here are so deep in the pockets of lobbyists & special interests that the needs of the people are just a distant bleep on their radar. I know several legislators, and they are no longer the same people who went to Austin with so many good intentions. They are now more concerned with pandering to the special interests groups in order to fill their campaign coffers. I am so disappointed with them & no longer have any respect for them. Even Truitt has sold out. :-(

Debating Pelosi makes zero sense. ZERO! He's running for president. She's House minority leader. There is no sense in them debating. It's just a stupid red-meat tactic. Conservatives hate Pelosi because she's very liberal and ...ummm...kind of unattractive. So it makes her an easy target. If she were just another white dude in a suit, the neocons wouldn't hate her nearly as much.

The GOP field is running as if this is a high school StuCo election.

Just another thing Perry isn't serious about. It takes weeks to set up a debate. So Perry invites Pelosi, of all people, to debate next Monday. That alone proves he's just grandstanding for the teabaggers, who love to hate the former Speaker. And the flathead teabaggers will eat it up.

Rick's pandering to his fan club, not really running for President.

How desperate and pathetic is Perry (and some of the losers here) trying to make anything about Nancy Pelosi? Under the new Teabag Congress of 2010, they're at their lowest approval in history...more hated than al Qaeda, with a 9% approval rating. Pelosi is irrelevant to the GOP nomination, but she's a genius compared to Perry and the other clowns.

I am a Bay Area Democrat, but these two are poster children for what is wrong in American politics today–partisan and petty.

Health care debate again? Perry, you have no HEART! Why asking Pelosi instead of the majority leader? Pelosi doesn't set up the agenda. Perry, please, talk to uh uh uh uh alias speaker of the house. Texas is working on its independence from the USA, why Perry is looking to be the president of the USA?

My guess is that by next Spring, the GOP will be turning to Larry, Curly, and Mo as their great conservative hopes instead of the current crop. They'd surely be more convincing!

Debate with Pelosi? Is he so desperate for points that he wants to debate with a Dem to show off to his base?
Wow he is really reaching now.

Love it! That was a good one by Pelosi! Perry needs to worry about debating his "fellow" bozos in the race for the GOP nomination. It's obvious that was just a political stunt to focus the attention away from the "frontrunners" who are ahead of him in the polls. And he wants to make the congress into part-time positions, like he's done here in TX on his "job creation", while he's left in Washington full time to do whatever he pleases? On behalf of all Americans, NO THANKS! As a Texan, I have a message for the 'guvna'....GET YO' BEHIND BACK HERE IN TEXAS AND CLEAN UP THE MESS YOU HAVE HERE, AND STOP EMBARRASSING US! One last thing, hopefully my fellow Texans won't continue to be bamboozled into voting for him again.
