Gingrich campaign aims to rebut attacks

Washington (CNN) - Newt Gingrich's campaign is going on the attack against its attackers.

On Friday the campaign set up a new part of his website called "Answering the Attacks," saying it will enable it to "tell the truth about Newt and set the record straight about Newt's positions on the issues as well as his record in public life and as a private citizen."

GOP state senator considering run against Hatch

Washington (CNN) – A Republican state senator from Utah said he's leaning toward challenging GOP Sen. Orrin Hatch, a six-term incumbent who faces re-election next year in a state with a highly charged, anti-Washington political climate.

"[Hatch] has a record and an attitude that Washington gets to dictate to Utah, and he and other senators get to dictate policy to Utah," Dan Liljenquist told CNN Friday. "That's not what balanced federalism was intended to be."

What's with Newt Gingrich and Agenda 21?

(CNN) - If you weren't listening closely to Newt Gingrich at the last GOP debate, you might have missed it.

"I would adopt a very strong policy towards the United Nations of dramatically taking on its absurdities," the former House Speaker said. "I would explicitly repudiate what Obama has done on Agenda 21 as the kind of interference from the United Nations," he then added.

Did you catch that? Agenda 21. What exactly is Agenda 21?

Cain suggests new Libyan regime to contain the Taliban

Washington (CNN) – Republican presidential candidate Herman Cain on Friday seemed to suggest Libya's developing government, which is set to succeed the fallen regime of Moammar Gadhafi, contains elements of the terrorist groups al Qaeda and the Taliban.

The comments came during a media availability in Orlando, where Cain sought to clarify his bungled response Monday on whether he agreed or disagreed with President Barack Obama's handling of the situation in Libya during an interview with the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.

Romney vs. Democrats: War over emails escalates

Washington (CNN) – No one is accused of breaking the law. And who considers a spat about hard drives and emails sexy?

But the chair of the Democratic National Committee charged Mitt Romney's staff with "unconscionable" acts, and the Romney team accused the Obama administration of being willing to "say and do anything to hold onto their power."

Santorum releases economic policy plan, touts it in Iowa

Washington, Iowa (CNN) - Republican presidential candidate Rick Santorum released his economic policy plan on Friday and touted its proposals in various appearances in Iowa.

As some of his GOP rivals sell their plans with catchy names - such as Herman Cain's "9-9-9" plan or Texas Gov. Rick Perry's "Cut, Balance and Grow" – Santorum has simply titled his, "Made in America."

Super Committee headed for failure?

Washington (CNN) - The congressional super committee, facing a fast-approaching deadline, appears headed toward failure unless negotiations shift dramatically in the final few days.

As evidence of the grim mood on Capitol Hill, multiple sources say Republican leaders have proposed a smaller package of spending cuts and revenues as a 'Plan B' if the panel does not succeed, though even this offer appears unlikely to gain much traction.
