NBA players sign on for 'Obama Classic' fundraiser

(CNN) - The chances of seeing professional basketball in 2011 are getting smaller, but fans of the sport will have at least one opportunity to watch pro players at work in December - if they're willing to include a donation for President Barack Obama's re-election bid.

The "First Ever Obama Classic" is slated for a yet-to-be-announced venue in Washington on December 12, three days before the first possible NBA game.

A labor dispute between league owners and players has threatened to scuttle the 2011-12 season, and the earliest possible date play could begin is December 15, league officials have said.

The "Obama Classic" will feature NBA players past and present, with money from tickets going toward Obama's re-election campaign.

Some of the NBA's biggest names have already signed on, including Boston Celtics' guard Ray Allen, New York Knicks' forward Carmelo Anthony, and Miami Heat forward Chris Bosh.

Other players include Patrick Ewing, Blake Griffin and Dwight Howard, and two female players: Cheryl Miller and Tina Thompson. More players will be added before the event, according to the Obama campaign.

The campaign is making a limited number of $100 tickets available to the Obama Classic for "Gen44" donors, a classification for Obama's younger supporters. General admission tickets are $200, premium seats are $500, and courtside tickets will set fans back $5,000.

Obama is a big basketball fan. Last week, he watched a college game aboard the U.S.S. Carl Vinson, an aircraft carrier docked in San Diego. And earlier this fall, former professional players attended an Obama fundraiser in Orlando.

At that event, Obama told the crowd, "I don't miss my shots in the fourth quarter."

Good idea for a fund raiser and not anymore expensive than a regular game unless you want the real expensive seats. Watch the repos complaine. Just mad they didn't think of it first. But then they don't have to disclose where their funding comes from. Better to see a game than to have to sit through a dull dinner with mitt or newt. Hey what does Newt charge ??? And will he be for or against global warming this week.

Are you kidding me!? Another reason I HOPE that the entire season is shut down. a bunch of pampered spoiled out of work millionares.....playing for B.O. Maybe they should donate it all to the deficit he's run the past 3 years! Would it have been considered rascist, if GWD had held a golf Tourney, and only the white guys showed up? Probably....but this story is buried on the CNN site...I guess they don't REALL want people to know about it!

"Maybe they should donate it all to the deficit he's run the past 3 years! "'

So are you one of those people living in a bubble of unreality, unaware that the majority of the deficit was caused by the GOBP deathcult?

This is anything but classic. Fans and citizens are fed up with the greed of the nba players and obama's failures. It's a perfect match for both sides. Enjoy. . . this could very well be the first and last 'Obama Classic" basketball game

A bunch of the dumbest people on the planet whoring themselves out for a guy they know one thing about.

I wonder if they'll pay off a token white player to make an appearance.

It never makes sense.....millionaires playing for a millionaire to raise money to campaign while they could be helping those who have lost jobs, can't feed their families all because we have an inept man leading this country down the drain. Reconfirms pro athletes are too dumb to do anything but play a "game".

The deficit the last 3 years is because we're finally including Bushy's wars into the budget, something he failed to account for. Go Obama 2012!

Why not play a game to raise money for a good cause, such as breast cancer research?

Meanwhile, unemployment keeps rising, the economy gets worse, poverty increases, Obamavilles continue in major cities and America's enemies go unchecked.

Now we see what happens when someone completely incompetent occupies the White House.

Todd, don't need to raise money for that. I'll be conducting breast exams free of charge. In the event that I 'have my hands full' with requests for free breast exams, I will be assigning workloads to my associates, my roommate Sal and his cousin Jay.

I'm sure that Mr. Obama wouldn't mind if NASCAR raised fund for his campaign, although it has mostly been associated with suporting Republicans (but, that's OK, right?).

Those NBA players aren't too bright..... They are raising money to raise their taxes. They will certainly need this money when they go bankrupt 3 years after retirement.

the players are black and so is obama plus he has the union in his pocket. not suprised at all. what i love is people on here willing to keep blaming bush and have completely given obama a four year pass to accomplish nothing. when he loses next year and the republicans get the jobs and economy flowing again, then they will say oh its all the work obama did. ha!

There's some terrible "hate" by some of hypocrits here. Too bad your boys and ol' girl running to represent the t-tards didn't create the idea first. Another example of how Mr. Obama is a genius, creative, and people oriented.
    OBAMA 2012!!!

    PA mom,

Obama is NOT why you don't have a job, and don't hate on the NBA players; not all of them are millionaires, but the ones who are, I bet they aren't complaining about their taxes being raised. Most of these guys have worked and trained hard for their money (Isn't that GOP mantra...WORK HARD), and are trying to help their family members too.

Honey, you are hating on the wrong crowd.

    @ Greedy Old Pigs: Please do one of the followingz;

    Go occupy something
    Get a job
    Take your free Government Prozac

Hopefully one of these things will brighten the pitiful life you must have!

Ya Todd because there's not nearly enough causes devoted to breast cancer...

But I like how the president is showing so innovation. To see that many NBA players on the court at the same time, you'd normally need tickets to the All-star game. And at least we know where the money is going. Seems legit to me.
