Debt committee failure: Red flag for investors

New York (CNNMoney) - The congressional debt committee's failure likely won't be a disaster for the markets or the economy. But it is a warning signal to both.

"The failure does illustrate yet again the inability of Congress to take the tough decisions to put the federal finances on a sustainable path over the medium term," Capital Economics said in a research note.

Cain, Paul crossed off for Iowa group's pres. endorsement

Des Moines, Iowa (CNN) - An influential social conservative group in Iowa has crossed off Republican presidential candidates Herman Cain and Ron Paul from consideration for its presidential endorsement.

Among other concerns, the group is not sure Cain is "knowledgeable or equipped" on foreign policy, and is worried about Paul's advocacy of states' rights regarding abortion and marriage.

Washington (CNN) – As he prepares to debate his fellow GOP candidates on national security matters, former House speaker Newt Gingrich unveiled a national security advisory team today that features some recognizable names from past administrations.

Who can make a difference in New Hampshire?

Manchester, New Hampshire (CNN) – Mitt Romney snapped up two of the biggest endorsements in New Hampshire last weekend - in particular Sen. Kelly Ayotte, easily the most valuable endorsement in the state so far.

But with the first-in-the-nation primary just seven weeks away, which state Republicans are left who could still jump in and make a difference in the GOP presidential contest?

2012 in the air as Obama heads to New Hampshire

(CNN) - When presidential candidates head to New Hampshire the November before an election year, it's a pretty safe bet the upcoming campaign is on their minds.

But that's not the case with President Obama, who travels to Manchester later Tuesday, White House spokesman Jay Carney insists. In fact, Carney maintained the quick trip north has nothing to do with 2012 at all. Rather, the visit is merely a continuation of the series of stops the president has made across the country since September to sell his jobs bill.

What's next after 'Super committee' failure?

,

Washington (CNN) - Uncertainty lingered Tuesday about what the continued fallout would be from the failure of the congressional "super committee" to forge a deficit reduction deal.

Monday's announcement about the committee's failure was followed by dip in the Dow Jones Industrial Average. The Dow fell 248 points Monday, with a minor recovery after being down more than 300 points earlier in the afternoon.
