Bachmann: Gingrich the most liberal GOP candidate

(CNN) – Minnesota Rep. Michele Bachmann on Wednesday furthered the attacks on former House Speaker Newt Gingrich over his immigration policies, saying that he moves the most toward the left among the GOP presidential candidates.

"He probably has the most liberal position on illegal immigration of any of the candidates in the race," Bachmann said in an interview with "PBS NewsHour."

New poll: Romney makes gains in New Hampshire

(CNN) - A new poll shows Mitt Romney gaining momentum in New Hampshire for the Republican presidential race.

According to a WMUR Granite State Poll released Wednesday, the former Massachusetts governor leads the GOP pack with 42% of support in the first-in-the-nation primary state.

(CNN) – GOP presidential hopeful Mitt Romney on Wednesday stood by his first TV ad this week that stirred controversy for taking President Barack Obama's comments out of context.

"There was no hidden effort on the part of our campaign," Romney said at a campaign stop in Des Moines, Iowa.

Latino leaders take aim at Romney

(CNN) – Democratic Texas Congressmen Silvestre Reyes and Charlie Gonzalez decried GOP contender Mitt Romney's stance on immigration Wednesday.

In a conference call with reporters, Gonzalez charged the former Massachusetts governor who's seeking the 2012 GOP presidential nomination for the second time with trying to "out pander his competition."

Romney hits Gingrich over immigration

(CNN) – Mitt Romney criticized fellow Republican presidential front-runner Newt Gingrich Wednesday for supporting lighter restrictions against illegal immigrants who have lived in the country for years.

"People who come into this country illegally should not have a special break or special pathway to become permanent residents or citizens of this country," Romney said at a campaign stop in Des Moines.

Des Moines, Iowa (CNN) – A man who could have run for president but passed threw his support behind a fellow Republican who is running on Wednesday.

Sen. John Thune endorsed GOP presidential candidate Mitt Romney at a packed and well-publicized event at the Des Moines, Iowa office of Nationwide Insurance. Thune represents South Dakota, which shares a bit of its border with Iowa's western region.

Poll: Gingrich tops GOP field in Iowa

(CNN) - A new poll shows former House Speaker Newt Gingrich ahead of former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney by seven percentage points in Iowa, a state that holds the nation's first presidential contest.

According to a survey by the American Research Group, Gingrich tops the poll with 27% of support among likely Republican caucus goers, with Romney following behind at 20%.

Fallon apologizes, Bachmann looks for same from NBC

(CNN) - TV show host Jimmy Fallon apologized to GOP presidential hopeful Michele Bachmann via Twitter Tuesday for a song played as the presidential candidate walked on stage for her Monday interview on NBC's "Late Night with Jimmy Fallon."

"I'm honored that @michelebachmann was on our show yesterday and I'm so sorry about the intro mess. I really hope she comes back," he wrote on Twitter.

Political gamble for Gingrich on immigration

Washington (CNN) - Newt Gingrich said he was ready to "take the heat" for backing limited amnesty for longtime illegal immigrants. The heat came quickly.

Top rivals for the Republican presidential nomination immediately labeled the former House speaker's stance as outright amnesty - a virtual swear word to many GOP conservatives.
