(CNN) - Rep. Gabrielle Giffords held her first constituent event Thursday since being gravely wounded in a mass shooting in January.
The Democratic congresswoman and her husband, Mark Kelly, retired Navy captain and NASA astronaut, helped serve a Thanksgiving meal to military families at Davis-Monthan Air Force Base in Tucson.
More than 400 people were expected to attend the event, held at the Desert Inn at Davis-Monthan. The menu included traditional Thanksgiving food, as well as prime rib, baked ham, shrimp, assorted cheeses and desserts.
Giffords has been recovering in Houston since receiving a gunshot wound in the head at a constituent event in Tucson, where six people were killed and 12 others injured.
In her first television interview since the January 8 shooting, Giffords last week showed she could clearly understand questions but struggled to communicate her answers.
When asked in the ABC News interview if she would return to Congress, Giffords said she wants to get better before she makes her decision.
