
(CNN) – GOP presidential hopeful Newt Gingrich sought to stand strong against illegal immigration Friday after rivals blasted him this week as a supporter of amnesty for millions of undocumented immigrants.
“I am not for amnesty for 11 million people. I’m actually not for amnesty for anyone. I’m not for a path to citizenship for any people who are out here illegally, ” Gingrich said forcefully at a town hall event in Naples, Florida. “But I am for a path to legality for those people whose ties run so deeply in America that it would truly be a tragedy to try and rip their family apart.”

(CNN) – With a little more than six weeks until the first-in-the-nation primary in New Hampshire, the state's highly influential newspaper will make its much-awaited endorsement on Sunday.
The Union Leader, known for its conservative editorial board, made the announcement via Twitter on Friday. An endorsement from the paper would be a major coup for any candidate.

(CNN) – Newt Gingrich responded to criticism from rival Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney over immigration by detailing his plan and attempting to show inconsistencies in the former Massachusetts governor's record with an abbreviated quote.
Gingrich, the former House speaker, sent his Twitter followers two links Wednesday, one to a page of his campaign website detailing his 10-step plan and another to a 2007 interview with Romney. The interview, conducted when Romney was governor, shows the two-time presidential candidate saying the illegal immigrants currently in the United States should "be able to stay, sign up for permanent residency or citizenship."

CNN: Giffords serves dinner to troops
Rep. Gabrielle Giffords held her first constituent event Thursday since being gravely wounded in a mass shooting in January. The Democratic congresswoman and her husband, Mark Kelly, retired Navy captain and NASA astronaut, helped serve a Thanksgiving meal to military families at Davis-Monthan Air Force Base in Tucson.

Chicago (CNN) - Maggie Daley, the wife of a former Chicago mayor, died Thursday night after battling breast cancer.
She was 68.
Daley died about 6 p.m. at home "surrounded by family, including her husband, former Mayor Richard Daley, and her children, Nora, Patrick and Elizabeth," said Jacquelyn Heard, Daley's former spokeswoman and a family friend.
